Game Audio at GDC 2019 Asbjoern Andersen

Game audio guru Damian Kastbauer is back with MORE exciting stuff to do at GDC 2018 – here’s that extra stuff you definitely shouldn’t miss:

Have you read the entire DEFINITIVE GUIDE TO GAME AUDIO GDC 2018? Still have room on your dance-card for a few more event? Here are some more opportunities to keep you fully engaged and socialized next week. Keep your social media trained #GameAudioGDC on twitter for up to the moment information and don’t forget to share insight and epiphanies there with the #GameAudio community at-large. One of the greatest feelings is being able to extend knowledge learned on-the-ground to folks who are unable to make it. I encourage everyone to find a way to cultivate the conversation, not only on-the-ground but, with the community.

Noon-ish – Whenever | MONDAY – FRIDAY
Lunch Daily Behind the Carousel

In addition to the daily game audio podcasts at Sightglass coffee every morning 7-9, lunch behind the carousel has been a tradition stretching back to the first year GDC returned to Moscone from San Jose. An informal, come as you are, lunch time meetup that encourages conversation and critical re-fueling before an afternoon filled with even more game audio. Bring a lunch, bring a friend, and bring yourself for this interactive feeding-frenzy of delicious insights and linguistic gymnastics. We’ll see how the weather treats us, keep ‘em trained on #GameAudioGDC for last-minute updates to location in-case there’s rain.

TUESDAY:
2:10pm – 2:40pm | The Sound of ‘GoNNER’: Exploring the Intertwined Relationship Between Sound and Game Design
Location: Room 2009, West Hall
Pass Type: All Access, GDC Conference + Summits, GDC Summits, Indie Games Summit

If you sneak out the back door during the audio bootcamp I won’t blame ya, this conversation between Sound Designer Martin Kvale & Game Designer Mattias Dittrich is bound to be insightful. In an industry where, optimistically, we are aiming for the highest level of collaboration between disciplines possible, come hear about how these two worked closely to deliver on that promise.

TUESDAY NIGHT
Brew and Chew Event for Game Audio Denizens · Hosted by DB Cooper
Tuesday, March 20 at 5 PM
California Pizza Kitchen
3 Third Street @ 53 3rd St, San Francisco, CA 94103
map

DB knows how to throw a party! Game Audio Denizens on FB is one of the premier communities (I hear) for game audio on the platform. Chiefly moderated by DB Cooper and Sam Hulick, their corner of the internet provides a valuable resource for the community. Catch folks out on the town Tuesday night connecting IRL and continuing the conversation in-person! (and don’t forget to be gracious to, not only our hosts but, the staff at all of the establishments you visit during the week. Arguably they have the harder job, although networking can really wear a person out!

WEDNESDAY/ THURSDAY/ FRIDAY
12:30pm | Game Audio CarouselCon

Matthew Marteinsson and a loose crew of volunteers has been bringing a value-add to the lunchtime carousel conversations in the form of daily rapid-fire micro talks focused on giving folks a succinct slice of game audio knowledge delivered directly to your craniums. GDC has come to mean more than just the presentations and offerings on display as part of the conference and supplemental educational opportunities like this seek to enhance the positive free-flow of information for everyone. The fresh-faces and unique perspective that CarouselCon encourages just makes everything better. See y’all there!

THURSDAY NIGHT
8:00 – 11:00pm | GDC Game Audio Karaoke by A Shell in the Pit Audio

Pandora Karaoke & Bar
177 Eddy Street

What Luca Fusi started last year was no joke and swiftly turned into a full-scale take over of an innocent well-meaning karoke establishment. You ain’t heard nothin’ if you’ve never been wrapped in the sonic embrace of a fully operational game audio sing-along. Thanks to Em Halberstadt, Rachel Sim and the folks at A Shell In The Pit for picking up the gauntlet, this is your chance to bring the noise and join the chorus. Sign up and get ready to throw-down!

A big thanks to Damian Kastbauer for those additional things to do and see! Be sure to check out the complete guide, if you haven’t already. Hope you have a brilliant GDC!
