This week on A Sound Effect, we have 12 new sound libraries that will take your sound design to another level. We have two powerful virtual instruments – one with hard-hitting cinematic effects and the other with robust engines – as well as a wacky trumpet UI collection. We also have sounds of slimy movements, peaceful Mediterranean Islands, sirens and horns from South Africa, train car ambiences and more. We also have 3 bonus highlights of JUST-released libraries. Happy listening!
'Slime' by Kaibrary features this viscous material in all its forms. With sounds made with shaving cream, mayonnaise, jelly, cornstarch, lotion, water balloons, latex, and (a throwback to the nineties) Gak, you'll get a wide range of plops, pops, peels, splats, farts, and more. Each sound was also recorded in 192kHz, so you can craft creepy sounds for your alien species or massive swamp thing, too! With over 70 minutes of squishy content, this is a collection to look into.
'Turbine' by BOOM Library might be the last engine library you will need. This software plugin has sounds that will give voices to engines, from spaceships to vacuums. With 50 beautiful presets and real-time control, you will find an uncanny rumble for your rocket footage or the inspiration to create your own sci-fi vehicle. You also get whooshes, pressure releases, robotics, sirens, tools, flame bursts, and more! Just give one the several demos a look and be impressed by this tool's sounds and interface.
'Train Ambiences Surround' by surroundsoundlibrary.com has over 40 train car ambiences recorded in 5.1 surround sound. These room tones feature quiet train cars to capture the sounds of the rails, fans, diesel and electric motors, heating, AC, and other buzzes and natural noises. It also has sounds of the toilet, passengers, changes in acceleration, doors, and more! If your characters commonly travel by train, these ambiences will surely come in handy.
'Sounds & Ambiences of Sardinia' by WW Audio takes you to a peaceful island off the coast of Italy. With sounds of quiet beaches, harbors, tourist areas, churches, transportation, and more, you will get over 4 hours of lively ambiences from the town of Olbia and its surrounding areas. Plus, the metadata is exquisite, giving you detailed information about the exact location and even the models of vehicles that pass by. Whether you're producing a Black Stallion reboot or a romance inspired by Audrey Hepburn, this library will give your project the relaxing, romantic sounds you're looking for.
'Cloths & Sponges Foley' is the first release from South Africa-based TheWorkRoom Audio Post, getting you sounds of wet, damp and dry cloths on many different surfaces, and with a number of cloth wipe movements.
'South African Sirens' by TheWorkRoom Audio Post has 44 recordings of, you guessed it, sirens in South Africa. These recordings capture the alarms from police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks from various distances. And here's an interesting fact - the country's three types of sirens are actually used on all emergency vehicles. So, if you need authentic city backgrounds from the Rainbow Nation, or you want to manipulate the sounds into something new, check this one out.
'Collision FX' by Epic Stock Media is the newest cinematic Kontakt instrument that trailer editors, horror sound designers, and DJs will surely want at their fingertips. With 3,107 sounds (and 405 minutes of content), this scoring tool will get you powerful stingers, drum hits, bass drops, horn blasts, etc., as well as loads of control with an EQ, 3 types of modulation, spatial imaging, and lots of filters. If you want aggressive, professional sounds that you can quickly craft to you liking, give this one a listen.
'Trumpet Interface' by Sounds Like George takes you to a strange place where horns control the universe. With 264 sounds, you'll hear wacky chatter, shrills, and fanfares from the horn's mouthpiece, as well as clicks, buzzes, and other sounds that will give you an unforgettable user interface. As usual with George Hufnagl's libraries, it's best to hear the demos for yourself to get a feel for the full range this library offers - as well as a peak into his eccentric creativity!
'Vuvuzela' by TheWorkRoom Audio Post is a collection of sounds from this distinct South African horn. This plastic instrument is known by its buzzing sound, especially when large numbers of fans blast them at football games, and in this library you'll get clean recordings of single performances. You will hear it burst at various intensities, lengths, and wavering pitches, as well as perform from different distances from the mic - all of which is noted in the metadata. Whether you need sounds for a sports scene or a unique battle horn, check this one out.
Sounds Like George is first to market with 'My Phone Is On Vibrate', a compact SFX package dedicated to the sound of mobiles on vibrate. The vibrating phones have been captured all sorts of surfaces, including cardboard, cement, glass, desks, wood and in pockets and under piles of laundry.
'Coinage' by Effectsworks is the debut release from Bob Pepper, and it gets you the sound of a large number of coins from around the world, dropped and handled on a number of different surfaces and materials. So if you're looking for the sound of money, here it is.
'Creaks, Squeaks & Squeals' by Effectsworks delivers more than 1300 sounds for traditional Foley-like purposes, or to set an eerie tone. Capturing sounds from materials such as glass, rusty ladders, wicker baskets, vintage leather jackets, and large ovens, there's a lot to creak, squeak & squeal with here.
Here are 3 brand-new SFX releases that just came out – they’ll be covered in the next recap, but if you want to check them out right now, here they are:
