This week on A Sound Effect, we have lots of highly detailed libraries from the sound designers we’ve all come to love. You can hear sandy, rattling winds in West Texas, a collection of smartly produced AI commands and phrases, intricately designed mechanisms, and strange ambiences and creatures from an imaginative mind. You can also hear authentic WWII aircraft, immersive ambience from a Buddhist nunnery, glitchy screams, character-based footsteps, and all the elements you need for your convivial adventure game. High Desert Winds 2

In the second installment of the High Desert Winds Series, get the blustery sounds of High Desert Winds 2 recorded in the resonant mountains of West Texas. This library was recorded during a massive two-day wind storm with gusts up 75 mph! These extreme winds rattled and shook the house in wonderful ways. The creaking and groaning windows, doors, and walls were vibrating so much that I could record wind for the first time using a contact microphone! There are also recordings of leaf vortexes, sand blasts, tarps popping, umbrella destruction, and much more. If you need the sounds of a stunning desert storm to complement the recordings in High Desert Winds 1, this is the library to check out.

WW2 Aircraft is a collection of recordings of rare World War 2 aircraft. It features icons such as the Supermarine Spitfire, Bucker Bu-131 Jungmann, North American P-51 Mustang, Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, Grumman F8F Bearcat and others. The library consists of 59 recordings ranging from 13 seconds to over 10 minutes in length. The sounds have been recorded with the Sennheiser MKH416, MKH8040 and the Sony PCM D100.

The library covers exterior flybys from slow to very fast, aircraft taxiing by, engines starting up, idling, revving, stopping and a few takeoffs. It also includes an on-board recording of a Bucker Bu-131 biplane as it starts up, taxies, takes off, flies, lands and then stops. The planes have been recorded at a variety of distances, from close to relatively far away. As an added bonus, one of the P-51 Mustangs recorded had had its guns removed, which caused an awesome whistling sound every time it swooped down at a certain angle.

The library includes, but is not limited to sounds from both the nunnery and the hectic streets of the capital city of Nepal. The busy streets of Kathmandu carry the beauty of its everyday hustle and bustle sounds, containing a diverse range of city ambience.

Extensive information of every track was made, making the search for desired environmental sound much easier, formatted for Soundminer. The library features 3h24min of sounds from Tek Chok Ling Nunnery, Kathmandu and Himalayan mountains.

If you read Filip Stefanowski's Recording Adventures piece about capturing the sounds of Nepal, you'd know that 'Tek Chok Ling Nunnery / Nepal' is something special.
