Episode outline: ‘Over his long career, Gordon Hempton has mastered the art of truly listening. He’s known as the Sound Tracker. Some people call him an acoustic ecologist. His recordings and books have made him an international expert on the beauty and importance of undisturbed, natural soundscapes – and the ways human beings have changed them.
Now, Gordon Hempton is losing his hearing. But with that loss has come an intense urgency to share his life’s work — and his passion — with as many people as are willing to listen. ‘

Episode outline: ‘Whilst on holiday in England, I hopped on the train to Twickenham Studios, just outside London, to have a chat with James Mather, who was sound supervisor of the last four Harry Potter films as well as having worked on Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, Clash of the Titans and countless others. James has been working in the British industry for decades now, and he was kind enough to invite me to his studio for an interview on the eve of 2019.
James talked about some really interesting stuff including how they approached the changing tone of the Harry Potter franchise in the soundtrack, his methodology when working on action sequences and how picture editors and the sound department can learn from each other.’

Episode outline: ‘You might argue that reading about audio is like dancing about architecture. Or something. But you’d be wrong! In these days of podcasts and YouTube it’s easy to forget how many great books there are about audio, and what a fantastic resource they are for getting inspiration, ideas and learning new topics and techniques. in this show we share some of our favourites, including:
* The book that took Ian several years to read, how to access it’s Secret Bonus Content, and why
* A book that tells you how to use a potato as a filter, amongst other things
* Books about a band that Ian says you NEED to read
* The only two books about mastering (that we know of)
* The books we haven’t read but know we should
* Invaluable writing about audio that isn’t in books
* Several things that aren’t books at all’
