This week on A Sound Effect, we have more creepy sounds for your Halloween projects, plus lots of ambiences and interesting textures. You can hear gory stabs and blood splatters, sinister soundscapes in 5.1 Surround, and mysterious atmospheres from reversed sound effects. You can also hear suburban ambiences from the outskirts of Sydney, Chicago, Dublin, Dusseldorf, etc., as well as car and lawnmower engines and sounds of water balloons, bamboo stalks, an old vacuum, and even farts! If you’re looking for fresh new sounds to experiment with or you need new material for your soundscapes, you’ll like what you’re going to hear.
'Bones & Blood – GORE Elements' by Articulated Sounds has over 800 grisly sounds that will make your audience wince in pain. Does your horror project feature a stabby psychopath or a monster who likes to dine on flesh? Perhaps you need bone crushing sounds for a fighting game? In any case, if you're looking for gruesome, realistic effects, you'll find them here. Plus, each sound was recorded in 192kHz, so you can match the size and speed of each impact to achieve those visceral reactions.
'Reverse_Production Elements' by MatiasMacSD has 32 complex soundscapes that have not only been reversed but also mixed for ultimate impact. These sounds last from 8 seconds to over 1.5 minutes and include sources such as bicycle chains, fireworks, guitars, pianos, drums, bells, human sighs, and more. With extreme manipulation, you'll hear the overtones and 'feeling' of the sounds, making these great on their own or for adding a tense layer to your soundscapes. For a creative library that might inspire new techniques in your design, check this one out.
From Naked Gun to Dumb and Dumber, a good fart joke can really punchline a scene - if you have the right material. That's why George Hufnagl of Sounds Like George created a wide variety of flatulent foley for 'These Are Farts'. This collection has 216 rips that are flapping, full-bodied, squishy, squeaking, bursting, and more. And if you question his sense of humor about the library at all, the Ken Burn's Civil War and Steve Irwin-inspired demos will prove you wrong!
'Bamboos' by Anti-Node Design has lots of delightful, almost soothing sounds of bamboo hits. With musical taps, brushes, sawing, and scrapes from thin and thick bamboo, you'll have over 250 new sounds to experiment with. You'll also get recordings from a contact mic, and others of ambient bamboo wind chimes and water movement within the stalk. Plus, as high-quality recordings, you might discover hidden sounds during your pitch- and time-bending process. For the distinct timbre of bamboo, look no further.
'Suburbs of Chicago: Forest Preserve' by is the third installment in the 'Suburbs of Chicago' series by All You Can Eat Audio. This library takes you to the calmer areas outside the Windy City with ambiences of babbling brooks, rustling trees, and happy birds. But it still takes place near the third most populous US city, so you'll also hear bikes passing by and distant traffic and planes. With over two hours of sounds recorded at 192kHz, there is plenty for you to explore.
'Toyota Highlander, 2005' by Big Room Sound Inc. gets you lots of foley and pass-bys from this mid-size, V6-engine SUV. You'll hear commonly used sounds like opening and closing doors, hood, and windows, as well as slow and fast pass-bys. You'll also get flashier sounds like powerful revs, skidding in the dirt, hard accelerations and more in this library's 127 recordings. If you're looking for a wide variety of car sounds, this one has you covered.
'City Balcony Ambiences' by GainWalkers takes you on a rooftop journey across Europe from Ireland to Greece. With ten stereo recordings during daytime, evening, and night, you'll hear rush hour ambiences in Dublin, seafront crowds in Menorca, public transportation and pedestrians in Dusseldorf, rainy days in Thessaloniki, and more. These files last from 4.5 minutes to nearly 23 minutes, and they even have markers to note interesting events. If you're looking for more local flavor or variation in your city ambiences, give this one a listen.
'Retro Vacuum' by Badlands Sound features, yes, a vacuum and all its cleaning duties. With over 160 sounds from an old Hoover, you get recordings of it cleaning hard surfaces and carpet, as well as lots of foley of handling the bag, moving the vacuum, and plugging it in. You'll also hear pass-bys, its squeaky wheels, and ambiences of someone in the middle of making their floors look like new. Whether you need background sounds for a scene or you're creating an experimental device, check this one out.
'Water Balloons' by Kaibrary is a quick pack of water balloons sounds with lots of variation. It has 14 different types of impacts and handling situations including throwing water balloons at a chain link fence, car, dirt, telephone pole, street signs, etc., and playing with the water balloons by sloshing the water inside or stretching and rubbing them. The water balloons don't break from every impact, so you'll also get a good amount of bounces, thuds, and rolls, too! For an inexpensive, wide-ranging collection that will let you stay dry, check this one out.
'Suburbia' by Smackheads features the northern outskirts of Sydney, capturing 36 Australian residential ambiences. From the shores of Balmoral Beach to the Killara Golf Club to the busy streets of Crows Nest, this library was recorded during all hours of the day in several locations giving you sounds of peaceful morning birds, lawn mowers and construction, residential streets, distant traffic, ocean waves and more. Get all the suburban flavors from Oceania's largest city!
'Loopable Motors 1: Small Engines' by Effect Sense has exactly what the title says. You'll hear sounds of ten different engines from push and riding lawnmowers, diesel generators, compressors, water pumps, and ATVs. As the title says, each sound seamlessly loops, and the library features multiple RPMs, start ups, shut downs, blades on and off, and even three different pitch versions. Also, be sure to check out the Special Edition which includes 25 accelerations for the LeSound Audiomotors plugin!
