3 new sound libraries Asbjoern Andersen

In this recap, we have three new libraries for that will get you elements that aren’t easy to find. We have an anxious, talkative German Shepherd, northern ambiences filled with glorious loons, and ominous drones that let you know you’re in a bad place – but don’t be too afraid, check them out!
Wimpy Dog

  • Dog Sound Effects Wimpy Dog Play Track 38+ sounds included, 7+ mins total $19

“Wimpy Dog” is a collection of over 35 different recordings of a particularly sad German shepherd. He whines, he calls out, he yelps, he pants and pleads for attention in a truly expressive manner. He’ll be sure to bring some much needed character to any dog you’ve got onscreen or a creature you are designing.

The takes are generous in length, with plenty of breaths before and after each vocalization simplifying the creation of complex sequences. All of this was recorded outside, with great signal to noise, ie. very little air. No kennel reverb or cage moves and only the occasional birds in the background. That adds up to sounds which will hold up to robust amounts of processing.

'Wimpy Dog' by Big Room Sound Inc. has 38 recordings of a German Shepherd who anxiously wants something. You'll hear his distinct and memorable whines, yelps, and barks from a close-up perspective - making them perfect for anything from commercials to cartoons to that rom-com scene where the main character can't handle his prospective father-in-law's prize pooch. If you're looking for a solo dog sound library that is free of kennel sounds and reverb, give this one a listen.

Northern Rockies 1: Common Loons

  • • In Northern Rockies: Common Loons, get a collection of the strange and mythical calls of Common Loons. These beautiful birds have haunting calls that sing across the boreal lakes of North America. One of the greatest pleasures I’ve had as a field recordist was hearing their majestic wails echo across still waters. This library includes sounds of a nesting pair captured during a full week of nighttime and dawn recording in Glacier National Park, Montana.

2% FOR THE ENVIRONMENT & CARBON NEUTRAL:
    • Two percent of the price of this library is donated to an environmental cause. I view it as an “artist royalty” for the planet!
    • Carbon offset credits were purchased for the Northern Rockies Series. Field Recording travel for this library was carbon neutral!

    KEY FEATURES:
    • Nesting pair of Common Loons recorded in Glacier National Park, Montana
    • 22 clips including Loons
    • Close, medium, and distant perspectives
    • Isolated solo nighttime calls
    • Loons mixed with full dawn choruses
    • Included Loon calls: wail, yodel, tremolo, hoots, flapping takeoffs, and tremolo call flybys
    • 4 clips of Quiet Nature recordings from the same location. These recordings have sparse wildlife and are perfect for use as nature roomtones for the Loons included in the library.
    • Ruffed Grouse “Drumming” can be heard in several recordings in this library as distant bass thumps. Read more about how males create this sound by beating their wings while sitting on hollow logs – here.
    • Other included wildlife: Swainson’s ThrushesWilson’s SnipesRed-winged BlackbirdsRuby-crowned Kinglets, Beaver tail slaps, angry Chipmunks, and bats up to 90 kHz.
    • All tracks have an integrated loudness of approximately -35 LUFS.
    • This is NOT a parabolic dish library of close up and isolated Loons. It is an ambience library of Common Loons within their natural habitat.
    • *Note – I self-identified all birds using several iOS apps and bird identification websites, so I cannot guarantee 100% accuracy in species identification.

    TEXT MARKERS:

    • Named markers are included in each file to help find interesting events in an otherwise uniform waveform. Starting in Soundminer 4.5Pro_v271 you can now read text markers from within Soundminer!

  • Animal Sound Effects Collections Animal Hyperrealism Vol II Play Track 2000+ sounds included $180

Animal Hyperrealism Vol II is a library containing sounds themed animal vocalisations, from real to designed creatures totaling more than 2000 individual sounds in 283 files.

The sounds were partly recorded with animals trained for media production, partly recorded in zoos and wildlife centers. The asset list includes but is not limited to: amur leopards, bottlenose dolphins, californian sealions, pacific walruses, red ruffed lemurs, owls, parrots, dwarf little fruit bats, hamsters, guinea pigs and many more.

The content has been recorded at 192KHz with a Sanken CO100K plus a Sennheiser 8050 for center image and a couple of Sennheiser MKH8040 for stereo image.
A special section of the library features samples recorded at 384KHz. For these sounds an additional microphone was employed, specifically the CMPA by Avisoft-Bioacoustics which records up to 200 KHz. This microphone was actually used to record most of the library but the 384KHz format was preserved only where energy was found beyond 96KHz not to occupy unnecessary disk space.
All files are delivered as stereo bounce of these for mics, though in some instances an additional couple of CO100K was added to the sides.
The resulting ultrasonic spectrum is rich and allows for truly extreme manipulation of the content.

Bonus: Two extra libraries included for free:
This library also includes two additional releases from Mattia Cellotto - for free: Crunch Mode delivers 230 crunchy sounds made with a variety of vegetables, fresh bread, pizza crust and a selection of frozen goods. The Borax Experiment gets you 158 squishy, gory, slimy and gooey sounds.
