In this second part of this week’s sound effects roundup, we have ambiences that range from uneasy sci-fi tones to pleasant Barcelonian shops and parks, footsteps for all scenarios, machines that hum, grind and squeak, and energy as it blasts and whooshes by. Happy listening :)
'Big Machines' is a collection of rare, industrial machines located in German power plants and industrial sites. This library by Shaping Waves includes an ash breaker, gas turbine model, oil atomizer, 10KV power switch, manual steam machine, Siemens exciter machine, coal dispatcher and more. Each machine was recorded in isolation, capturing the full range of frequencies from these vintage machines.
'Spaces' is a library of over 120 atmospheres for sci-fi and horror projects. Created by SoundMorph, it includes film quality backgrounds that range from simple and flexible constant tonal noise to complex soundscapes that are marked with raindrops, buzzes and interference and detailed enough to stand on their own as backgrounds or even transitions. For a little uneasiness in your atmosphere, look no further.
'Energy' by Breakup Audio contains 370 sounds of synthesized energy. With energy beams, lasers, blasts, whooshes, explosions, magical effects, etc., and five variations of each sound, this library has the flexibility to voice the futuristic weapons, magical powers and electrical environmental effects in your game.
'Unusual Footsteps & Movements' is a pack of over 200 footsteps and movements that are not often found in sound libraries. It features the footsteps of a drunken person staggering, someone struggling in a fight, and other quick movements on many surfaces such as linoleum, cement, carpet, floor mats and wooden decks. Filmnoise, Inc even took their shoes off to capture the unusual bare footed and sock footsteps you need.
In games set in modern day cities, your character could walk past an electrical box, a power plant, a broken transformer... but where do you find these sounds without capturing the traffic and birds around them? Phonophilist has you covered with this library of sounds you don't remember until you need them. 'Electrical Hum' has 25 sounds of transformers and synthesizers that work as source audio and can even add an eery layer to your ambience.
'Barcelona Ambiences' contains recordings from just about every type of place you can find in this coastal city. With sounds of markets, coffee shops, parks, beaches, metros, parking lots, burger bars, airports, construction sites, train stations, shops and more, there is hardly a type of ambience that Pablo Valverde didn't capture in this 3 hour library.
'Edward Extended' by Tovusound contains 35,600 sounds of various shoes and surfaces in an engine for Kontakt that will greatly speed up your workflow. With 43 unique combinations, automatic left/right foot diversion, and tweakable parameters such as distance, speed, EdV3rb IRs and Kontrol S-Series support, this robust library will be your go-to for footsteps for a very long time.
If the Extended version isn't enough for you, 'Edward ULTIMATE' by Tovusound takes the Edward footstep engine for Kontakt one “step” further. With 48,900 steps and 90 combinations, this library expands on the Extended version with twice as many surface types, more shoe types, and mod and pitch wheel support for even faster mixing. This is truly the ultimate collection of footsteps for your game or film project.
