Wow, there’s been an explosive amount of new sound effects libraries from the indie SFX community! So many, in fact, that we’ll be splitting this week’s roundup into two. Featured in this recap are the rugged sounds of wood working and motorcycles, native sounds from Ethiopia, dramatic creaks and trailer music, and several noises from recording “mistakes” to signals, feedback and UI sounds.
'Anarchy' by Eiravaein Works is a dissection of the classic American Fat Boy. This library contains recordings of the pipes, switches, horn, mechanics, linkages, electrical functions and guardian bell, along with pass-bys, engine throttling and encircling for flexible interactive use. Each set was recorded with maximum headroom; however, the crew even included two experimental recordings that took the brunt of the motorcycle's wide open throttle.
'Motherland Ethiopia' by creativeaudiopoolberlin features ambiences from the birthplace of humankind. This library captures life in the villages, mountains and cities heard through the native language and wildlife. Families speak in echoey halls, men discuss things in intimate locations, and children play together in the distance. Also included are sounds of rain and thunder, as well as several local birds, crickets, musicians and even cats.
In a world where dramatic trailers are responsible for bringing people to the cinema, one sound designer must find the perfect hit, the perfect sting, the perfect emotional rise. This week Epic Stock Media offers you an experience like no other with Blockbuster Trailer. With plenty of ostinatos, taiko drums, muted violins and Enya-like voices, you can now match every emotional beat in your trailer with the perfect minor to major chord change.
How many times has your recording been ruined by an unwanted noise? A nervous voice actor who overdoes every plosive, wind that tears up your recording, or an unsteady hand that seems to tap the boom mic on everything around it? 2496 Sound Effects decided it was time to collect these sounds and make their very own library out of them! In 'Raw Noises' you get 80+ noises that are perfect for when you need that sound you just can't put your finger on.
'Woodwork' by Digital Rain Lab is a collection of workshop machinery and all the hidden music the tools emote. With the whirling of a drill, the scratches of a sander, the pounding of a hammer, the beautiful humming of a saw, and the futuristic sound of a precise milling machine, this library is asking to be manipulated and stretched into a handmade Kraftwerk-inspired production.
'Unsettling Creaks and Squeaks' may not have sounds of blood-curdling screams or mushy gore, but these sounds will make you cringe. This library by SoundBits contains sounds of friction that unnerve in both in their physicality and their context. Doors creak, metal scratches ceramic, rubber stretches to its limits, metal contraptions struggle, leather twists, a mic suffocates within a balloon… these are the most violent sounds you can create without featuring voices or imitated carnage.
'Signal Interference' by Glitchedtones contains 40 feedback loops that crackle, hum, buzz and glitch to give you layers that will enhance many scenarios, from sci-fi machinery malfunctions to futuristic robotic haze. Each track is a minute long and contains the phasing and twisting that suggest mechanical confusion and disconcertment.
'Feedback Loop FX & Atmospheres' by Glitchedtones is a collection of atmospheres born out of interference. With 200 sounds, this library features hums, drones, feedback and more which can be used in several scenes and genres. Perhaps the navigational system is on the fritz while en route to Mars, or the radio has lost its signal while the hero is stranded in a dark forest. From classic scifi to modern horror, these sounds can emphasize the uneasy loneliness of your characters.
From a video call to an inviting website, 'UI Sounds: Musical' by Sound Ex Machina will meet your notification needs. With clean rings, fresh pops, soft glitches, clear sitars and hundreds of other sounds, this library can voice the interactive soundscape of any your developments, whether they're on a smartphone, tablet, desktop, website, wearable device or infographic.
