It’s time for another sound effects recap, and this week we have 14 new libraries for your listening (and designing) pleasure. You can find seasonal sounds of pumpkin destruction, dark industrial impacts, creepy crows, ghostly vocals, EMF recordings, and atmospheric drones for your unsettling projects. We also have sounds of Japanese forests, distant trains, bouncing balls, clicks and switches, planetary destruction, rusty antiques, and lots of crossbow action. 'Distant Trains' by Detunized delivers multi-channel recordings of freight, commuter and passenger trains, plus single locomotives, passing in distances of 300 meters to 1.5 kilometers away.

Distant Trains Sound Library delivers impressive multi-channel recordings of trains that pass by in a distance of at least 300 meters up to 1.5 kilometres.

Included are pass bys of freight, commuter and passenger trains plus single locomotives.
In order to capture the impressive walls of sound caused by passing trains an arrangement of 6 microphones was used. This setup encompasses stereo-pairs of MKH3040-MS, MKH8090-ORTF and MKH8040-WideAB. All pairs are recorded to separate files that are now available as time-aligned Reaper sets.
Each recording session took place at nights so that it was possible to capture extremely long approaches and tails that fade out to natural and calm night ambience without any disturbance by road traffic or other unwanted noises.

Pumpkin Gore

Our Gore library was recorded in the weeks preceding Halloween 2017. We decided to have some fun because we generally only have access to pumpkins this time of year and thought why not create something fun for us, and our friends and colleagues to use. Please enjoy the use of these recording in all your spooky movies and sound design.

Provided are 750 MB of LR and MS Recordings. LR is decoded from the MS and has the approximate stereo width as an XY recording. On the MS tracks the mid mic is on the left and the side mic on the right.

The LR can be encoded back into MS or if panned center, cancels out the side mics to just play the mid mic. Alternately in the provided MS file, the right side channel can be dropped so you can use the mono center. The 2 files are mastered the same. Occasionally the levels vary on the MS track as these are the levels set to keep the the tracks phase coherent. All tracks are edited to be M&E friendly, and monitored through a phase scope to again, keep the tracks phase coherent.

All recordings were recorded In a foley studio at 192kHz with a Fostex FR-2 recorder, Project Studio C4 mic, and Ambient Emesser ATE-208 bi-directional mic and mastered in Pro Tools.

All recordings are recorded in Toronto, Ontario Canada, by Ryan Macneill and Steven Ejbick of Textures Sound.

Crows

The Crows library includes 30 stereo tracks of nothing but crow sound effects, perfect for single isolated effects, but also for ambience track layering.

Every sound is recorded inside forests, and close to crows’ nests with younger birds being fed and calling out, and next to natural habitats where bigger flocks gather in trees. It also has a variety of up-close caw sounds from the only tame albino crow in Scandinavia, recorded in a bird’s zoo.

The crow has quite a large vocabulary, and the classic calling usually is a little different from bird to bird. Some are more round when sounding out, while others are just plain hoarse and rusty-sounding.

The library includes both untreated tracks, and noise reduction-processed tracks in two separate folders. Noise reduction-processed tracks have been cleaned up with a CEDAR NR system.

Equipment used: Telinga Stereo Microphone and Flexible dish, and Sound devices 702 Recorder.
