This week on A Sound Effect, we have sonic textures that range from manipulated materials to the varied expressions of a human voice. You’ll hear different types of guns, a Canon TX’s switches and functions, high-energy car tricks, waterfalls and well pumps, innovative scratching sounds, a versatile Chevy sedan, and cute little monsters that you might not want to feed after midnight. Happy listening!

It comprises 2000+ non-textual vocalizations with variations of actions and emotions recorded by voice actors – all carefully edited, classified, thoroughly metatagged.

The sounds are suitable for cartoons, games, and any projects featuring cute funny characters! It is delivered in 192Khz which allows for additional pitch and treatments.

'Fun Monsters' by Articulated Sounds has over 2,000 expressions from 18 magnetic creatures. You'll hear the whole gamut of emotions as these little beasts act amazed, curious, happy, exhausted, sad, rude, ornery, annoyed, scared, wacky, and much, much, more! These sounds are also available at an ultra high-quality sample rate of 192kHz - and with 59 pages of metadata, there likely isn't a reaction you won't find! For an extensive and charming animated vocal library, give the demo a listen.

Scratches

  • Scratches is a comprehensive library of 700 recordings of scraping, cutting, scuffing, peeling and rubbing sounds. This high-quality collection of versatile sounds will make your skin crawl and hair stand on end.

The idea behind this project was to gather a wide assortment of objects like saws, scissors and chalks, and to record their acoustic interaction with surfaces such as wood, glass, metal, concrete and gravel. We even came to vandalize a few musical instruments (snare drums, oriental percussions, cymbals and more) with hammers and knives in order to capture weird noises and unique musical qualities.

If you want to get an insight into how we created Scratches library, head over to our blog here

'Scratches' by Sound Ex Machina has 700 recordings of scratching, scraping, cutting, peeling, and rubbing a variety of surfaces. With materials like wood, glass, metal, concrete, gravel, and even some percussion instruments, these objects are abused with saws, scissors, hammers, knives, and more. Each sound also has detailed metadata, making them very easy to find and letting you know exactly how they were created. Whether you need creepy sounds for a horror project or new textures to give your soundscape a fresh feel, this library has it all.

Drifting vol.1: Car Action

'Drifting vol.1: Car Action' by Dilex is an insane collection of screeches and sputters from a car as it's pushed to the max. You'll hear hard accelerations and drifts around the race track that make the car's engine sputter and its tires hold onto the pavement for dear life. All together you get 47 minutes of crazy car action and sounds you may have never heard before. Whether you're designing a chase scene or you're for looking sounds of pure energy for an experimental song, this library will give your soundscape some excitement!

Filmless Film Camera

'Filmless Film Camera' by All You Can Eat Audio is a collection of sounds from a Canon TX. It includes 25 minutes of rewinding the camera, changing the f-stop, opening and closing the back, turning the rewind knob, taking pictures, handling the camera, and more. You can also get the library in 96kHz or 196kHz, plus each track is tagged with metadata. If you need sounds of all the mechanisms on a camera, this one should do the trick!

  • This library contains various kinds of small to mid-size streams and waterfalls captured close and at a distance, for designing and spicing up your project. In addition, it features creepy water drips in a cave and water well pump sounds.

    Recorded @ 24bit 96kHz / stereo and carefully edited.

'Stream & Waterfall' by Anti-Node Design has sounds of water sources from Chiba and the Okutama forest in Japan. These rushing, pouring, and dripping sounds were recorded from various perspectives for flexible use, and they last from 8 seconds to nearly 8 minutes. Chevrolet Berretta, 1990

  • Car Sound Effects Chevrolet Berretta, 1990 Play Track 68+ sounds included, 54+ mins total $69

Regular everyday cars are part of any working sound designer’s toolbox. Vehicles with some character but nothing that calls too much attention to itself. This 1990 Chevrolet Berretta is one of those cars:

It’s got a little oomph when the engine revs up and still maintains presence at low speeds. It works great for taxi cabs, police cruisers or regular sedans.

This collection will give you a proper amount of coverage at a variety of speeds including by’s, start & aways, up & stops, 3 point turns, onboards (engine/tailpipe) as well as some character doors (interior and exterior), and switches.

'Chevrolet Berretta, 1990' by Big Room Sound Inc. gets you the passbys, engine revs, and more from a nearly 30-year-old car (doesn't that make you feel old?). This vehicle has the characteristics of an 'every car' which makes it a great stand-in for the average vehicle, from taxi cabs to household cars. Along with revving and passbys, you'll also get Y-turns, idling, shifting gears, etc., as well as foley of the doors, switches, and turn signals. If you're looking for sounds of versatile car that will work in a wide range of situations, check this one out.

  • This is a unique bicycle library that captures road surfaces from the perspective of super quiet bicycle. These are clean, quiet, nicely performed true exterior rides. Including multiple perspectives, speeds and actions. From fast passbys on asphalt to slow onboard recordings and smooth stops.

The Extra Surfaces library provides 162 sounds captured on the following road types Large Bricks, Gravel, Grit, Icy Asphalt.

The four additional ‘onboard road’ surfaces are the perfect extension for your other ‘City Bicycle’ library of taste. Just add it as a layer, mix it and voila your bicycle can move from gravel to bricks to grit or from large bricks to slippery icy asphalt roads.

    Speeds and actions:

Three speeds. Departures from slow, medium to fast getaways. Arrivals from slow stops with gently brakes to smooth departures.

    Five perspectives:
    1. Onboard Front: captures the whirring tire and surface sound.
    2. Onboard Pedal: nice overall combination of pedaling, crank creaks, chain rattle, tire and surface sounds.
    3. Onboard Rear: close up sound of the rear axle, with chain, sprocket and switching of gear.
    4. Tracking shot: mono recording of the passby, keeping the bike in focus while passing by.
    5. Static XY shot: stereo recording of the passby that emphasizes speed.

Overview of perspectives and mic placement:

Onboard recordings are 2-3 minutes long depending on speed. Higher speeds > shorter duration.
All 3 onboard mics are edited in sync with one another to make layering easy.
All Passbys, Arrivals and Departures move from Left to Right.
