This week on A Sound Effect, we have 11 new libraries with all the elements you need to give your projects character and detail. We have libraries with punches and groans, foley from a Jeep Wrangler, trains from the UK, futuristic UI sounds, a calm English thunderstorm, and a varied collection of domestic SFX. We also have ambiences from empty schools, European mountain ranges, New Zealand wildernesses, German restaurants, and American supermarkets. Happy listening!
'Learning Space' by Pasi Pitkänen is a collection of undisturbed ambiences from a school building. With over an hour of room tones, it has sounds from air conditioned classrooms, the gym, hallways, cleaning closets, restrooms, storage rooms, the boiler room, an abandoned building, and more. Each recording lasts around 3 minutes and has very low self-noise, making this a flexible library for your interiors. If you need room tones with character and depth, give this one a listen.
'Sounds of Nature: MOUNTAINS of Europe' by FENNEC FX has hours of lush, beautiful mountain ambiences from Central European ranges. Recorded at various times of the day, these soundscapes capture bird choruses, rustling forest leaves and pines, frogs and jumping fish in a lake, small streams, and more. Each area was recorded with three different mic setups, giving you a variation of perspectives and crosscutting flexibility. Let this library take you to its remote locations and make you feel like humankind is far, far away.
'Sounds of Nature: NORTHLAND New Zealand' by FENNEC FX gets you the sounds of some of the most interesting birds on the planet. With calls of Tuis, Bellbirds, and Barbary Doves, you'll hear these distinct calls from the Shaky Isles. Also included are hisses of cicadas and crickets during different parts of the day, and as usual, these recordings by FENNEC FX last from 3-5 minutes and were recorded with three different mic setups. For beautiful ambiences that only exist in the Southern Hemisphere, this library is worth every modest dollar.
'The Future is Now' by Sound Response is a user interface SFX library for your hi-tech computers and vehicles. With 700 sounds, you'll get bleeps and bloops of confirmations, denied access, beeps, clicks, sweeps, typing feedback, and data processing. All the effects maintain a consistent tone palette, making their implementation as easy as a drag and drop. If these notifications are the norm in your environment and you need even more, be sure to check out Sound Response's other sci-fi UI collection Binary Code.
Maybe you have all the engine sounds you want, but what about the mechanisms you need for a fleshed out car experience? 'Jeep Wrangler Foley' by Badlands Sound has you covered with over 190 non-engine SFX from the 2004 TJ model. This library includes foley from the dashboard buttons, door handles and locks, windows and windshield wipers, blinkers, headlight control, key ignition, horn, and more! If you need the interior mechanisms of a vehicle, check this one out.
'VARIETY01' by noisecreations is an assortment of high-quality SFX that are often used in film and television. You'll get hundreds of sounds that range from interior effects from doors, fans, and telephones to glass and metal impacts to residential, nature, and rain ambiences. You'll also get other various recordings like compressed air, construction work, switches, latches, creaking stairway steps... you name it! If you need a variety of sounds to get your scenes running, give this one a listen.
'Restaurant Ambiences' by West Wolf is a collection of room tones from dining areas all over Bulgaria and Germany. In this library you'll hear over 70 minutes of crowd ambiences from a biergarten, bierhaus, café, and wedding reception, as well as quiet room tones in a catering room, kitchen, and warehouse. The walla also ranges from nearly indistinguishable as a European language to the more distinct German tone. For a pack of crowd sounds and interior hums that will barely make a dent in your wallet, check this one out!
'Punch and Combat Sounds' by Gamemaster Audio gets you thick, juicy punches and beefy male groans for your fight scenes. With 720 sounds, you'll receive 68 punches and kicks, roughly 400 manly grunts, groans and screams, 59 whooshes, and nearly 200 foley SFX of clothing, leather, military gear, jumping, interactions with objects, and more. As always, this library is also included in the Pro Sound Collection, so give them both a listen.
'Rolling Thunder' by Infrastructure Recordings is a relaxing 11-minutes from a summer thunderstorm in Norfolk, England. From start to finish, it takes you through the life of a storm, from the hushed bird choruses and first drops of rain to the rumbles of thunder as the storm comes and goes. There are no loud crashes or annoyances of traffic, just a happy, little thunderstorm that stops by to say hi. Whether you need the soft rain and rumbles for a scene or peaceful affirmations, here's one to listen to.
'Mixed Traffic: Trains at Speed Volume 1' by Infrastructure Recordings transports you to the side of English railroad tracks for clean, close-up sounds of freight and passenger trains. These recordings capture trains arriving and leaving the station, the alarm of an automated crossing barrier, and of course fast locomotive passbys that whoosh with every railroad car. The library also has metadata that includes the train's direction and microphone positioning for easy finding. For a collection of rumbles for a great price, check this one out.
'The Supermarket' by UberDuo is a pack of ambiences and impulse responses that will remind your audience they need to pick up milk on their way home. This library has 12 minutes of walla from inside a grocery store, which includes scanning beeps and conversations from the checkout line, children talking while their parents shop, recordings from the frozen food section, and more. You'll also get an impulse response to pull your soundscape together in an uncanny way. If your scene takes place in a supermarket, this will have you covered.
