In this brand new recap of excellent new independent sound effects libraries, we have 21 releases that cover the real world and imaginative lands alike.

You can hear ambiences of Russian galleries, French cafes, busy industrial ports, calm wild birds and cicadas, and even ones onboard a voyaging spaceship. You can also hear the various engines from a coach bus, an American blackhawk, a British harvester, and a 2-stroke motorcycle.

Container Ship Voyage

'Container Ship Voyage' by Phonography lets you port in Belgium, sail the English Channel, stop at Liverpool's industrial port, and cross the North Atlantic Ocean to reach Halifax, Canada.

    We had the chance to make the crossing of the North Atlantic Ocean on a cargo ship container (ATLANTIC STAR).
    We boarded in the Antwerp industrial port in Belgium, sailed the English Channel, and then stopped at Liverpool’s industrial port.
    Then we crossed the North Atlantic Ocean to reach Halifax, Canada. This trip took us 10 days, 10 days of sounds recording.

    Through this trip, we were able to access places that normally are closed to the public: industrial ports, and a container ship.

    The 2015 German MAN Lion’s Coach tourist bus includes 425 clips in 48.1 gigabytes of audio. It features the sound of a 6-cylinder 460 hp Euro 6 diesel engine.

    The collection includes a total of 13 synchronized takes from exterior and onboard microphones. The exterior microphones captured departures, passes, arrivals, ignition, shutting off, idles, and doppler horns from 9 microphones at 4 positions. The onboard microphones were placed inside, at the exhaust, in the engine, the luggage hold, and in the washroom in 15 perspectives (including an Ambisonic perspective) as the coach drives at steady RPMs, with gearshifts, and ramps. Also provided are 4 designed mixes of the interior, exhaust, engine, and luggage compartment.

    The package comes complete with performed effects of doors, wipers, fans, and more, Pro Tools and Reaper mixing sessions, custom mixes of onboard and exterior perspectives, and full Soundminer, BWAV, and MacOS metadata embedded in every clip.

Cicadas

'Cicadas' by GainWalkers is a collection of summer ambiences of cicadas recorded in southern Spain with massive choruses, individual chirps, and a designed section.

    Cicadas is a collection of summer ambiences recorded in Southern Spain over the course of 2018 summer. You will get massive chorus in different densities and areas, individual chirps, and a designed section.

    The temperatures during this time of the year are so high, ranging from 30ºC to 45ºC (86ºF to 113ºF), that cicadas are always present in daytime. The higher the temperatures, the more cicadas chirp. Having this in mind, some recordings from early June have less cicadas than the ones recorded in July and August. In addition to this, there are recordings both in the morning, where the cicadas are not so many but are already present, and in the evening, chirping all of them as a chorus after a whole day under the sun. The library contains:

    • Cicadas in the countryside, recorded in different months and times of the day. Some recordings only contains cicadas and some others also include birds, dogs barking, flies buzzing and rooster calls (26 audio files).
    • Close ups of single cicadas, to build your own atmosphere or design insects, creatures and other specimens (17 audio files).
    • Cicadas in urban environments, such as parks (16 audio files) and residential areas (8 files).
    • Ambisonics recordings, also decoded into binaural by using Harpex-X (20 files).
    • Designed Section: includes abstract ambiences, futuristic alarms, glitches, flybys, flapping of winds, flock of birds, individual birds, frogs, and much more (71 files).
    • Descriptive markers that highlight interesting events in an otherwise featureless waveform. These markers can be read in programs such as Izotope RX, Reaper and Soundminer.

    All files come in 96 kHz / 24 bit and with embedded metadata, both in Soundminer and BWAV.

MZ ts150cc 2-Stroke Motorcycle

'MZ ts150cc 2-Stroke Motorcycle' by Pete's Shop has sounds of pass-bys, revs, idling, etc., recorded with 2 DPA 4060s, 2 ME2s, an SM-57, a Sennheiser 416, and a pair of CM3s.

    I took out a MZ TS150 2 stroke Motorcycle and recorded approaches, departures, pass bys, circling in a grass parking lot, engine revs, idoling, etc.

    I recorded this library with 2x dpa 4060s, 2x ME2, an sm57, sennheiser 416 and a pair of cm3s recorded in an xy pattern. I set up the cm3s on a mic stand, and followed the action with the 416, with 5 onboard microphones capturing sounds on the bike as well.

    In the 179 files, there are 8 syncable takes of pass by's at different rpms with the onboards and 2 different exterior perspectives. Everything has been labeled in Soundly with metadata.

    You will find what you need to cover any small 2 stroke engine motorcycle in here.
