Nature sound effects and recordings, from forests, jungles, plains and fields
Vaeyan IV delivers a massive set of assorted sound design ingredients for your audio alchemy. It includes assets captured from natural ambiances, vehicles, tools, cameras, slingshots, scissors, clay whistles, flutes, ceramic jars, dumpsters, kitchen appliances, deconstructed fans, toys, doors, windows, vintage furniture, fountains, projectors, and even a slap bracelet. That’s right, a slap bracelet.
As with Vaeyan I, II, and III, this is a huddling of field recordings and sound designs that do not quite form a library on their own. However, together they make up an audio FX treasure chest gleaming with gold and silver audio loot!
Finnhamn – Sounds From The Kvarken Archipelago is a collection of natural soundscapes recorded in the Finnish nature during one year.
Finnhamn is a small peninsula in the Kvarken World Heritage Site. Here you can find both wild coastal and calm archipelago landscapes, an old growth forest, wetland, lakes and open plains.
This covers in other words a lot of the landscapes you will find in Scandinavia.
The recordings where made during a one year period, so soundscapes from all four seasons are well covered.
The trail to the old fishing cottage on the hill of the headland goes trough a 300 year old protected forest that is home to a multitude of animals, birds, insects, trees and plants, some of which we get to know more intimately in these recordings. Finnhamn is located in the unique Kvarken Archipelago, which is Finland’s only Natural World Heritage Site on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Together with Sweden’s High Coast, the Kvarken Archipelago is the best place in the world to experience and understand the land uplift phenomenon caused by the last Ice Age.
The isolated location of Finnhamn and the adjacent forest is rather unique in that sense, that not much sound pollution reaches it. It is well worth a visit if you want to experience deep natural quiet and wonderful and invigorating nature.
The package contains 165 files with a total playing time of 14 hours!
Recorded in 48kHz & 24 bit with a Sound Devices 633 recorder, DPA 4061 microphones and JRF D-series hydrophones. Presented in 48kHz, 24 bit & 44.1kHz, 16 bit stereo.
The compressed package is 9.8/4.5GB.
The tracks are labeled according to the UCS standard, except for the first 4 characters that indicates the order in which the tracks where recorded. If you want to use a database that speaks the UCS language, then please remove the first 4 characters of the filename. You can then arrange the tracks in the right order using the last UserData field (the date).
Northern Italy is 90 minutes/2.9 Gb of ambiance recordings of rural Northern Italy. 22 separate files – recorded in 24bit/96kHz A-B stereo. All sounds are UCS-compatible.
Northern Italy was recorded in July 2019 (pre-Covid), and features ambiance recordings from just outside the small village of Entratico, near Bergamo, Italy. This is hill-country, with meandering gravel-roads, small farms, sheep-bells and lots of crickets. In fact, in this terrain, insects seem to be the only sound sources which are always near. Everything else, from dogs and roosters, to church-bells and airplanes, seems always to be distant. Lots of laid-back rural atmosphere here.
Crickets are quite a dominant feature in these recordings, and there are several variations recorded both day & night. Some are quite loud (the ones with “LOUD” in the file names), so be careful with playback.
Birds calling, echoey chatter from the neighborhood, gardening, crickets chirping, dogs barking, roosters calling, jets passing, as well as the dead silence in the deep of the night; the awakening of nature and residents during the early morning hours and much more.
‘Residential Forest I’ is the first library in my series of long term recordings in a German allotment environment. The area is a remote place surrounded by a forest with cottages, ponds and lots of nature sounds. The library is a conflation of suburban, residential and forest ambiences.
‘Residential Forest I’ contains 27 unique ambiences, recorded in Germany during summer, in August 2021 from 8 p.m. till 8 a.m.. Out of these 11 hours of ambiences I edited the best parts and collected them to a 5 GB time travel in sound, from evening through the night and morning hours in a residential forest area.
For recording the dead silence during the night I chose an extreme low noise matched pair of Rode NT 1A and the Tascam HD-P1.
The whole length of the library is about 5 hours, most of the ambiences are between 5 – 15 minutes, some are longer, a few are shorter.
‘Residential Forest I’ is recorded in AB Stereophony, 48 kHz, 24 bit.
Ambiences from Corfu, Greece is a collection of 26 ambiences recorded in summer on one of the greenest islands in the Ionian Sea.
Stroll through the Corfu Town, full of small shops, Greek tavernas and narrow streets.
Listen to the soundscapes of some of the most beautiful and relaxed mediterranean beaches, including Issos beach and Agios Spiridon Beach.
A total of 57 minutes, recorded at 192kHz/24bit.

SOUNDS OF FLOWING WATER
Creating this library we travelled to many secluded places to capture the pure sounds of flowing water: gently gurgling springs and small streams in deep forests, calm rivers between rocks or fields and thundering waterfalls splashing down mountains. Bring your projects to life by using, layering and transforming our water sounds in a creative way. Streams and rivers are an important part of our world and they form a big part of our aural experiences. Large rivers may flow majestically quiet, but other aqueous entities produce a lot of interesting sounds: they bloop, splash, spray, sprinkle, burble, roar, rumble, dribble, drip and drizzle. Every stream sounds different and mostly the variations consist of small, subtle changes.
DESIGN YOUR OWN WATER SOUNDS
Create all kinds of flowing water, layer waterfalls into a loud roaring mass or design the pure and gentle sound of a fresh spring.
Included are 120 unique sound effects, all carefully metadata tagged and seamlessly loopable to give you the highest possible comfort.

California Grassland Abandoned is a collection of 65 Stereo and 18 Quad Recordings focused on Abandoned old structures, various Int / Ext Winds, Metal Latches, Gates, Wood Creaks, and an assortment of other interesting sounds.
The recordings from this library took place in The Carrizo Plain, an open expanse of Grassland that is located West of the Mojave Desert in California’s Central Valley. Abandoned and weathered dilapidated remnants of old ranches, water tanks, barns, metal sheds, farm machinery, and corrals from a bygone era of the West can be discovered if one ventures off the beaten path.
An old rusted corral gate’s latches, hinges, locks, and ronks. A 1950 Ford Truck’s wild sound door creaks. The still quiet of morning ambiences. A very animated barn door. A water tank in the middle of no man’s land bending and booming as the elements of nature have their way. Calm, medium, and higher winds in metal sheds, small houses, barns, tall dry grass, and in some exterior locations out in the Plain.
The goal was to try to capture anything I could that had a lot of character along with providing a sense of what a lot these areas sound like. These recordings aren’t meant to be absolutely desolate so in a few of the wind and ambience tracks there is some light birds, and sometimes a few insects.
The companion library to this, California Grassland Wildlife contains a number of different bird species and a couple of other animals and insects native to the environment.

The GENERAL AMBIENCE SERIES: A modular approach to the ambitious project become one of the largest and most versatile ambience libraries on the marked. High quality, detail, versatility and diversity will set this library apart from other products. You can expect monthly releases of small ambience packs in the future to keep the quality standards high and constantly grow the library over time.
This is one of the biggest and most diverse night-time ambience sound effects libraries on the market. More than 100 hours of recording production time has gone into this release. This is literally worth one month of good and healthy sleep.
Fall has come and it is getting colder, the nights are getting longer. I ventured out into the dark to capture those magical moments at midnight. Hear lush wind rushing though the cornfields and relaxing cricket choruses sooth you into the night. Be witness of amorous foxes exercising their considerable vocal talents with their terrific barks and unsettling vixen screams. Hear eerie forest ambiences featuring screeching owls and lonely wolves howling in the pitch-black dark, perfectly suited for your next horror movie production.
Listen to the magical silence of dormant villages and moody church bells ringing in the distance providing you that uncomfortable ghost town mood. The scene that I recorded could be so quiet, that I was really pushing the limit of my Sennheiser MKH 8000 Microphones. When it gets that quiet, single sound events travel longer through the air in a way that they melt beautifully into the background. As I recorded these sounds I was witness of the ritual of silence that happens every night providing to the careful listener those special moody moments.
Nights in the Suburbs consist of very light pedestrian and traffic activity. You can hear quiet streets, dogs barking and cats yowling and hissing in the distance. The anthrophonic sounds do dominate, but they are much lighter and more reduced than during the day. This is especially true for urban nights, where you still got the most human activity at night, but it’s still more reduced that during the day. This is especially true for traffic noises. Wide square really begin to shine with a more reduced background noise level. I also tried to highlight the more subtle buzzing and hum sounds to build you a nice construction set for you ambience design toolkit.
With a huge number of very reduced background elements and air tones, you gain a lot of control over your backgrounds. What makes this library special, besides human and wildlife nighttime activity, is that you will find a lot of far and very far perspectives, due to the reduced general background level. In addition, is this library is manly bird free (besides the species that are active at nigh). You get urban city ambiences that aren’t too busy. You get a variety of environments like cemetery, forest or urban riverside at night. Due to the reduced nature of the ambiences, and the lack of birds, they include a lot of geographically unspecific exteriors, which can be handy for any type of production.
FOREST LIFE is a diverse collection of 104 isolated Forest Ambiences and Wildlife Sounds. It includes all of the sounds from the FOREST DAY and the FOREST NIGHT Sound Libraries, along with the Rivers and Lakes featured in the OCEANS RIVERS LAKES library. In addition, I’ve included the free mini library FOOTHILLS.
FOREST LIFE came out of a love for hiking and exploring Mountains and Forests and capturing the wonderful soundscapes of that world. Most of these recordings took place in California, in particular, a number of areas throughout the Angeles Forest. You’ll also come across sounds from high atop the Eastern Sierras, San Jacinto Wilderness, Los Padres Forest, and the Olympic Peninsula in Washington.
A variety of different bird species are included, at lower elevation settings, higher Mountains, throughout the day and night, some in isolation, others sometimes alongside wind and when at night, insects.
Also included are isolated Mountain winds in different variations and with vegetation and tree creaks. There’s Cicadas along with different sounding Crickets throughout various times of the night and day.
In the water collection there’s everything from slow trickle creeks coming out of Abandoned Mines to the fast flow of the Hoh River to gentle lake laps high atop the glaciers of the Inyo Forest.
The FOOTHILLS bonus library includes 9 files of Winds and Birds, and a few of the wonderful sounds of an Abandoned Ranch.
Detailed metadata and markers have been provided so they’re easily searchable. Photos are embedded in every file to give an idea of what the location was like. Checking out the Metadata Sheet will give on a better idea of everything else that’s in the library.

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
