Sound Effects

  • The PSP L’otary2, is our ultra high quality emulation of a rotary speaker (VST, AAX and RTAS for Windows; AudioUnit, VST, AAX and RTAS for Mac OSX). We based our algorithm upon two original and legendary models: the Leslie® 122 and 147, and spent hundreds of hours perfecting our simulations. In other words, this is not just another modulation effect! PSP L’otary is capable of reproducing as precisely as possible the classic sounds of those famous rotary speakers.

That said, the PSP L’otary2 is capable of creative divergences from the original. For example, you could set up both the rotating high frequency horn and the rotating low frequency drum independently from each other and emulate speakers with a static drum or even a broken horn or drum engine.

  • PSP SpringBox is an emulation of a hardware spring reverberator (VST, AAX and RTAS for Windows; AudioUnit, VST, AAX and RTAS for Mac OSX). It recreates several features typical of a spring reverb, such as a convincing “boing” on transients and a repeatable resonating musical character with an adjustable presence. A selection of configurations from two to six springs total is provided, as well as the ability to set stereo spread and pan/balance configured to suit various mix setups – from a typical guitar reverb to a creative uses as a send reverb in the mix. Thanks to PSP SpringBox’s two channel A and B settings setup and range of presets operation is fast and easy.

From sci-fi granular to totally organic, a large number of whooshes, passbys, dopplers to give a natural sense of motion to your project.

    Minimal One Shots (62 sounds)

You can make your organic foley drumkit using them as a sample into your electronic music project.

Last but not least, do you need more power in the low end? You can layer these sounds to enforce subsonic frequencies giving a new taste to other existing sounds.

  • City Life Sound Effects Urban Air Play Track 33 sounds included, 146 mins total $57

Urban Air is a collection of long duration / ready to use / surround urban backgrounds.

This is aXLsound’s first surround ambience library, it has been recorded across different cities with various microphones setup ( LCR ORTF / QUAD / 5.0 ) and then carefully collected and edited into 5.0 surround tracks.

You’ll find various moods and sonic characteristics including: downtown, suburban, industrial, small towns, quiet, loud and annoying traffic beds, wet city, side streets, parks, wide city squares, diffuse and distant urban elements, clean air tones or dirty gritty city noise …

For more convenience, 2 versions are available for this library :

     –  C / LR / LsRs : the 5.0 sounds are delivered “splitted” in three separate files :  ( 1 mono + 2 stereo files ) , this way you can easily use the stereo files if you don’t need surround.

    – .C / .L / .R / Ls / .Rs : multiple mono files

This ambience pack contains 33 sounds / 99 files embedded with full and detailed metadata ( Soundminer, Basehead, iXML ).

RECORDING TIPS – HOW TO RECORD RAIN:
    • Use microphones known to perform well in high humidity. I use Sennheiser microphones. View my full gear list – here.
    • Use cables made with Neutrik X-HD Series waterproof connectors. This keeps water from getting into your cable connection points.
    • Use a dry bag for your recorder. I like the Sea to Summit 65L bags because they have a wide mouth and can easily fit a recording bag through the opening.
    • Put your dry bag at least 25 feet away and cover it with local foliage. Otherwise you’ll just record the sound of rain hitting a dry bag.
    • Use a Cinela Pianissimo Double Mid/Side blimp with a Kelly Rain Cover.
    • Coat the inner cover of the Cinela Pianissimo with NixWax as Cinela directs on their website. This is a water repellant molecule that is also acoustically transparent. The water repellant causes the water to bead up and roll off while also letting the air through. Read more about how NixWax works – here.
    • The honeycomb of the Kelly Rain cover disperses drops as they hit the blimp which minimizes thumps. However, don’t use the Kelly Rain cover in areas with lots of insects because they tend to get stuck in the honeycomb, buzz for hours, and ruin recordings. The honeycomb cover also doubles as excellent protection for the blimp if a bear/moose/elk decides to chew on it.
    • Find a section of forest with low and dense deciduous leaves. These leaves catch the rain so drips don’t thump on the blimp. Occasional thumps during heavy rain are okay because they are easy to edit out in post.
    • Waterproofing a microphone blimp is totally game changing. I can now leave my rig out in the elements for 24 hours without fear of rain. Waterproof blimps and 32-bit float recorders have opened up a whole new world of recording for me  and I couldn’t be more excited.
    • Build a platform of local foliage to cover the blimp for extra protection. George Vlad has an excellent video on how to build a natural rain canopy – here.
    • I learned many of these rain recording techniques from George Vlad, so make sure you check out his work at Mindful Audio.
