Nature sound effects and recordings, from forests, jungles, plains and fields
The library is a collection of atmosphere recordings of different sized/aged forests during summer time in Eastern and Southern Finland.
In these recordings you can hear a huge variety of birds during different times of the day and also some changes of the weather such as multiple states of the wind.
The library contains 30 files (10 FuMa, 10 AmbiX and 10 Stereo files) captured at 24bit/96kHz. Total length of over 1.5 hours.
B-format files are in FuMa and AmbiX format.
With the free SoundField SurroundZone 2 plugin you can convert the B-format files into your preferred format (stereo, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 6.1, 7.0 or 7.1 surround). There's also other plugin options such as Harpex-X.
The library also contains ready-made stereo (ORTF with wide cardioid pattern) mixdowns for your convenience.
These recordings are very raw. Very little or none denoising, EQ or any other processing method was used.
Recordings of most common insects: Crickets, Bees, Bumblebee, Cicadas and other recorded over many years. Soundscapes, ambiences, textures and “solo” recordings of insects recorded in pristine nature and in rural environment etc. Variety of recordings and situations.
Long recordings. Metadata tagged with detailed description of equipment and object of recording, time of day or night etc.
These are RAW files. Without any dynamic manipulation (compressors/limiters etc.). Maximum peak level is -5 dBFS .
Gear Used: Sennheiser MKH 60/30, 40/30; AKG C391B/CK94; Rode NT1s, LOM Usi ; Telinga parabolic mic, Sound Devices 744T Recorder and Sound Devices Mix Pre field mixer (Lundahl input transformers), Sony PCM M10, Tascam DR05X, Rycote blimps (windjammers), Manfrotto tripods, Mogami cables , Neutrik XLRs…
Populate your next Virtual Reality project with these chilly forest ambiences recorded under different weather conditions, resulting in varied foliage takes, including trees creaking, spooky winds with heaps of low frequency rumbling, dead trees’ twigs clashing, dead quiet atmospheres and intense cane field action.
All recordings were made at nighttime when no birds or other forms of noise pollution were present. This results in fully neutral soundscapes that are suitable for use in both full-blown horror experiences and placid contemplative pieces. However, one take of beautiful birds waking up, bursting with intense singing is present allowing you to glue these pieces onto busier forest soundscapes.
Wintertime Woods is the perfect companion piece to Springtime Woods, ensuring all your forest ambience needs are met.
This sound library is available in both Ambisonics FuMa (B Format) and Stereo (Binaural) formats.

While cities are probably the noisiest places on earth, few delicate sounds forge their character across the sonic chaos of our modern life. Natural sounds are visceral of humans;
In urban jungle, the animals, or natural elements alleviate uniqueness and create whimsical cohesion for the contemporary soundscape.
This new sound collection depicts a wide spectrum of natural sounds existing in cities. With many isolated animals, ambiences, and weather, water elements. Inside you’ll find high quality content from Articulated, well edited and instantly useable sounds.
We recorded these sounds through many travels across the world from 4 continents: Europe, North America, Asia, South America, and Africa.
Rich Soundminer/bwf metadata are embedded, well classified, and thoroughly edited. –>See our Quality charter
The sounds are classified into 3 main folders: Ambiences (multiple sources soundscapes), Animals (isolated sounds), and Weather/Water (environment)..
Looking for that ‘lost world’ outdoor adventure ambience? The Rupununi region has it all: Pristine landscapes, rich biodiversity, and local myths – and this sound effects library captures its ambience.
Uncharted Territories
Virtually untouched by modern human activity, its nature combines a mixture of savannahs, shrubs, wetlands and forests located in South America. The amerindians inhabit the area for millennia and are in total osmose with their surroundings.
Local myths and legends
In fact the region is soaked with legends and myths, like the famed yet unfound El Dorado city claimed by many explorers like sir Walter Raleigh expeditions in 1592.
Rich Wildlife & Biodiversity
Rupununi bolsters evolving serenades of sounds throughout days and nights due to its incredibly lush eco-systems including thousands of bird species, insects, reptiles and mamals.
The library is available in stereo, and surround (Quad & 5.1).
Water Flow took six months to create, and offers 90 BWAV files recorded in different locations. A huge part of this library is based on the recording sessions by (and in) rivers. Most recordings were done during the winter just before sunrise, to reduce the amount of unwanted sounds.
Almost all recordings are completely clear and free from any birds in the background.
The first location was river called Łyna, and there I’ve recorded a sound of water flowing at different speeds, along with the sound of a dam reducing the speed and height of the river’s flow. The second interesting part of this location was the amount of fallen trees in the water, causing the water to split. Because of this, there was a lot of sonically interesting places to record.
The second river is called Guber, and it’s much smaller than Łyna. I’ve picked this place because of the really subtle water streams, and something even more amazing, natural dams built by beavers. The amount of work these animals put to built those dams is incredible.
In addition to recorded rivers, this library also includes the sound of water dripping inside underground sewers. During one of my field recording trips I discovered a hatch. I could not resist to go inside, and what I discovered there was far beyond my expectations. I made a two small trips there to record it from different distances, with different microphones in mono and stereo.

All of our nature ambiences are recorded using three different microphone set-ups. A Stereo set-up. A wide stereo set-up. And a spaced omnis set-up, which also offers extended frequency response. This brings you 3 variations of each recording. Within these variations the differences are sometimes subtle and sometimes more extreme. To be used as needed and providing flexibility for crosscutting within scenes.
All nature recordings are clear and free from external noise and other human disruptions. Recorded in 24 bit / 96 kHz. Accurately edited and mastered to sound as natural as possible.
The average length of each file is between 3-5 minutes so enough time to use in longer scenes without looping.
For more detailed descriptions about the ambiences in this collection see the metadata in our file lists or listen to the preview montage.

COUNTRYSIDE WINTER – Ambisonics brings you 15 ambisonic atmospheres recorded during different times of a day in winter: early morning, morning, afternoon, evening and night.
All these recordings have been done in Sierra Morena, Andalusia (Spain). Being winter, birds tend to be much quiet and insects are almost gone, so most of the ambiences are pretty silent. You will hear mainly birds such as sparrows, doves and woodpeckers. At night dogs and roosters make an appearance.
Recordings have been done with a Sennheiser Ambeo + Zoom F8. All files are in 96 kHz/24 bit and meta-tagged.
This Ambisonics sound effects library contains the original recordings in A-Format (no processing whatsoever) and in B-format (AmbiX). By using Harpex, 5.1 (LRCLfeLsRs) and stereo (ORTF) mixdowns have been also added. Note that the Lfe channel is mute. It hasn’t been removed to follow the SMPTE path order.
The Ambisonics version contains all the formats. Stereo version only includes the stereo files.
Soundcloud demo plays the stereo version.
This library of environmental recordings is the culmination of three recording expeditions to the stunningly gorgeous Pacific Northwest. We visited a variety of locations ranging from urban Vancouver, Portland, and Seattle to the wild and untamed Olympic Peninsula. We captured dynamically disparate sounds such as a noisy Seattle shipyard and the quietest location in the continental US – deep within the primordial Hoh Rainforest. There are excellent crowd wallas, and contemplative mountain streams. From beaches to mountain tops to luxury high rises no environment was left un-recorded! This is what the Northwest sounds like!
In all, this library features 69 individual files totaling over three hours of runtime. Total un-zipped file size is over six gigabytes. All sounds have been edited to remove discernable dialog and unwanted noises. What’s left is pure, loop-able ambience suitable for no-fuss editing.
All sounds were captured on a Sound Devices 744T recorder. Microphones used include a Sanken CSS-5 stereo mic and a matched stereo pair of Sennheiser 8040s in ORTF configuration. All recordings are accompanied by a high quality photograph for reference and tagged with Pro Tools searchable metadata.
As a special incentive we will also include a bonus mini-library of ambiences from the Irish countryside that James recorded on a recent trip home! Highlights include some great mountain winds and a rare recording of a starling formation taking flight!

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
