  • This library features a fine selection of Eurasian Mammals. The animals have been recorded both, in the wild and at animal care centres across Germany.

The most prominent and unique animal sounds in this library are probably squeaky juvenille garden dormice, grunting boar and sniffing hedgehog.

Also impressive recordings from deer rut are included and close up and very clean recordings from various bats, both flight calls and sounds during feeding.

There are plenty of rodents and other animals, check the list at the end of the text or the file list for an even more detailed overview.

Many of the recorded animals called in the ultra frequent range and have been recorded at 192kHz with microphones like the Earthworks QTC50, that go well beyond 90kHz. These noises are perfect for pitching and other sound design, I included some slowed down sounds as examples.

If you want to buy the library as a bundle with my libraries Eurasian Insects and Eurasian Birds, please contact me directly.

This collection is a great pool for realistic sound design as well as a source for editing monster, dragon and dinosaur sounds.

No animals have been harmed or scarred during the recording sessions.

Sound of the following animals are included:

Bechstein’s Bat, Boar, Common Pipstrelle, Common Vole, Daubenton’s Bat, Eurasian Hedgehog, Fallow Deer, Garden Dormouse, Mouflon, Nutria, Red Deer, Roe Deer, Shrew, Whiskered Bat, Wolf, Wood Mouse, and more…

  • Animal Sound Effects African Grey Parrot Play Track 225 sounds included, 4 mins total $55

    DESCRIPTION:
    • In African Grey Parrot, get a musical collection of parrot vocalizations from Myrtle the parrot. Hear short squeaks so adorable I couldn’t help but smile and powerful clicks that sound like alien languages. Hear visceral screeches that could cause nightmares and playful whistles so musical you’d think she had a tune stuck in her head.
    • This library offers you a collection of sounds from a fascinating species. I didn’t know one parrot could make such a wide variety of vocalizations and it was a joy to hear them for the first time as I got to know Myrtle over several sessions. I hope you enjoy them too. Thanks for listening.

    KEY FEATURES:
    • Visceral screeches
    • Alarm calls
    • Playful squawks and sqeaks
    • Musical whistles
    • Whooshing wing flaps
    RECORDING STORIES:
    • A friend of mine in Philly recently got an African Grey Parrot. These parrots can live 40-60 years as pets, so this is a serious long-term commitment. People have to put these parrots in their will because your parrot often outlives you!
    • Myrtle the parrot is an adolescent and is discovering her voice. I was lucky to be able to spend 4 separate session with her as she explored the full range of her vocal chords.
    • I was only the second human Myrtle had spent time with, so she was very nervous during the first session. I mostly captured alarm calls and nervous screeches.
    • However, as I returned for more sessions, she became more comfortable and made a wide variety of happy and playful calls. My favorites was the clicks she makes that sound like an alien language.
Lessons Learned – I recorded Myrtle in Double Mid/Side, left the mics on a stand near her, and then backed away. Because I recording in surround, when she moved off axis, I could rotated the surround image in Harpex to center the final stereo rendering included in this library. By leaving the mic in one place Myrtle got comfortable and I was able to capture joyful and playful sounds from this captivating species of parrot.

  • A mini library of Maldivian fruit bats (aka flying foxes) vocalising and screaming their soul out during the early hours. The sound is a very distinct scream captured in 96kHz mostly with Sennheiser 8060 shotgun fully extended and pointed at the source. In the SoundCloud preview, you can hear sound pitched down by 3 octaves, which is quite terrifying.

The recording was done on an island, few takes have background noise of the ocean, which was lowered by applying EQ and RX9. These are included as separate files along with the originals.

  • This collection includes some unique sounds from Penny, a cockapoo. From barks to whines, whimpers and grunts, Penny provided an outstanding canine performance. Being a puppy, her mood fluctuates from excitement to anxiety, but rest assured – she thoroughly enjoyed the recording session and was rewarded with plenty of treats.

All her dog noises were recorded at 192kHz 24bit, making them perfect for creative sound design.

    This library is UCS-compliant.

  • Experience the Sounds of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe at the End of Winter

Every now and then an opportunity comes along that you just cannot pass up. The chance of going on a recording trip to Zimbabwe alongside someone who knows the area and many locals was exactly that.

I traveled to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe in August of 2023. As the dry season and the coldest time of year was still in full swing, the land is dry, and animals travel long distances to reach watering holes and rivers to drink. With the trees dried out and few insects in sight, the soundscape across the steppes is eerily quiet day and night, save for the large number of helicopters flying tourists around during the day.

Not only was it an utterly inspiring experience just taking in the beauty of nature and the warm spirits of the people I have met, it was also an exercise in navigating the challenges of anthropogenic noise becoming more prevalent around the globe. With this time of year being the height of tourism season, capturing the sounds of nature meant having to find pockets of silence to avoid the sounds of helicopters, safari trucks, and trains carrying coal.

By resorting to drop rigs, overnight recording, and getting up before sunrise to record, I captured a wide range of birds, mammals, and ambiences that will let you recreate the soundscapes of this vivid nation in your projects. Of course, I also had to capture the incredible majestic power of Victoria Falls’ namesake waterfalls, both in stereo and Ambisonic format.

A portion of the sales proceeds for this library will be donated to local conservation efforts including Painted Dog RescueAfrican Wildlife Foundation, as well as CARE‘s efforts in providing food and nutrition security, climate resilient livelihoods, economic development, education, and water.

  • Animal Sound Effects California Grassland Wildlife Play Track 95 sounds included, 227 mins total From: $120

California Grassland Wildlife is a collection of 95 Stereo and 33 Quad Recordings of over 30 different species of birds that can be found in Grassland, Plains, and High Desert Environments.  Also included are a few recordings of Coyotes, Grasshoppers, Beetles.  Some other quieter ambiences are included as well.

Most of the recordings from this library took place in The Carrizo Plain, an open expanse of Grassland that spans 50 miles long and 15 miles wide West of the Mojave Desert in California’s Central Valley.  It’s an arid area far from any towns, and a fairly harsh environment that most years gets very little rain.  A number of dirt roads go on for miles and stretch across the flat plain and hilly landscape, eventually leading up to the Temblor and Caliente Ranges.  Abandoned and weathered dilapidated remnants of old ranches, water tanks, barns, metal sheds, farm machinery, vehicles, and corrals from a bygone era of the west can be discovered if one ventures off the beaten path.

At first glance, one wouldn’t think there’d be much wildlife out there, but I discovered it’s an area that has quite a bit going on.  A lot of the old structures, along with the few areas with trees become the resting place and shelters for birds and animals.  Over a span of two years I made a number of trips to this location trying to capture as much of the local wildlife as I could.

Included are sounds from Dawn, Morning, Afternoon, Dusk, and late evening.  Perspectives vary from extremely close to medium and distant.  I’ve split out the sounds by species and more Active, Medium, Specific, in order to give a lot of flexibility when trying to use these sounds for projects.

Barn Owls chirping overhead, the single rhythmic call of Bell’s Sparrows, the close hooting of Great Horned Owl’s, the constant cooing of Doves, Ravens slowly traveling over an open field, Finches swarming and providing quite the cacophony.  Detailed sounds of wings of birds and grasshoppers.  Coyotes howling in the distance.  It was a lot of fun putting this one all together.

California Grassland Abandoned is the companion library to this one and is more focused on Ambiences, winds, and sounds from Abandoned Structures.

    Prominent Birds with multiple recordings

Barn Owl, Bell’s Sparrow, Bullock’s Oriole, Cassin’s Kingbird, Common Nighthawk, Eurasian Collared-Dove, House Finch, Great Horned Owl, Mourning Dove, Raven, Say’s Phoebe, Western Kingbird

    Metadata

  • This library focuses on isolated recordings of single insects, mainly from Northern Europe. While all insects have been recorded in the wild in Northern Europe, most also appear in all of Europe, Asia, North Africa and some have been introduced to America and Australia too.

For this library I recorded various species of wild bees, wasps, bugs, cicades, grasshoppers, flys, dragonflies, butterflies, ants, sandfleas and underwater bugs. A detailed list of all species is at the end.

You will find flybys, wing buzzes, hums, rattles, little feet, stridulations, jumps and even bites.

Over the course of years I improved my recording of these little animals by approaching them with a set of different micing techniques, always looking for the best spots to record these small creatures, making sure not to disturb them.

Many recordings were performed with microphones and recorders that go up to 192kHz to capture the ultra frequencies emitted by some individuals. Some grasshoppers you won’t even hear unless you pitch them down or play them slower.

While I find their crispy, clear and often bassy sounds lovely, some of the noises of the animals can be decribed as annoying, scary, sharp or intensive.

But besides for the original recorded species, these noises can be used to create swarms or all kind of insects or little creatures, like elves, aliens and fairies.

In addition to the close up recordings, I added a few swarms, real and designed, a couple of ambiences and a few designed insect sounds.

Some of the 60+ species (for details check file list):

  • The Seagulls sfx library includes 28 tracks of both single, isolated seagull screams, and bigger flocks of nesting seagulls, calling out to each other and their chicks. There are plenty of classic call sounds, but also some weird throaty and raspy screaming, and what could sound like seagull laughing sounds.

All tracks are recorded with the very useful zoom function of the Telinga microphone and dish.
Library includes both untreated tracks, and noise reduction processed tracks in two separate folders. Noise reduction processed tracks have carefully been cleaned up with a CEDAR NR system.

Though these birds are in an abundance around most harbours and industry around here, they are not always easy to record. You mostly hear them from a distance, or from places not easy to access. When you try to get close to them, they will usually fly away.

Many hours have been spent on rooftops, gardens, backyards, a junkyard, and different harbours to get this material.
