Vehicle sound effects and recordings – cars, helicopters, motorcycles, airplanes, ships, trains and sci-fi
I’ve lived in houses near busy roads. Cars driving by at all hours of the day…. Pass Bys… Vehicle Revs, Engine Rumbling, etc etc etc…..Ruining perfectly good recordings. But this time, it’s used to our advantage. All recordings are made during sound effect record sessions. Instead of removing unwanted car sounds, they are amplified, isolated, gained up, increased level.
All recordings range from 0-500Hz and can be used to create organic, real drone like sounds. Rumble, Tremble, Quake, Shake, Sci Fi, Pitch Bends, Rev, Resonates, Trembles and more. Use as a layer in a drone, vehicle, LFE/Subwoofer channel, and whatever else comes to mind. So buckle up and listen carefully, put on your best headphones or listen on your best speaker system.
Disclaimer: Be cautious, these sounds have extreme high volumes in the lower frequencies. Please take care, don’t listen too loudly.
Exterior Rumble Inside uses no special processing other than EQ, adjusting gain, and using iZotope Rx to assist in selecting frequencies to adjust.
These sound files were recorded at 32bit, 192kHz using the Sennheiser MKH8050, Sennheiser MKH30 and Sanken CO-100K microphones into a Sound Devices Mix Pre-10ii.
All are metadata tagged using the Universal Category System in Soundminer, and also searchable in Soundly, and Basehead.
Sounds of a vintage Western Electric wall mounted telephone used for train dispatch.
Library includes the sounds of handle rotations, bells ringing, receiver picked up and put down in varying fashions including normal, fumbled and slammed.
Classic GT Series Pass-By compiles over an hour of sports cars racing at a private event, resulting in minimal crowd conversations or unnecessary background noise. Recorded at three distinct locations, in this library, you’ll find long takes recorded at the finish line and at the tightest corner of this particular race track, resulting in plenty of engines revving and cars driving off into the distance, ideal for media scenes set in these settings, or for creative sound design purposes, as these takes were recorded only 5 meters from the vehicles themselves. Also included are recordings of the vehicles revving their engines before the competition at the pit lane.
This sound library is available in both Ambisonics FuMa (B Format) and Stereo (Binaural) formats.
List of vehicles included:

Back in the day, when I only had a single Sounddevices 702 recorder and a MS set, I recorded this little fun French car, the Citroen GS Pallas from 1971, together with sound designer Peter Albrechtsen.
The car which was the main character, Poul Brink´s way of transportation, in Christina Rosendahls true story feature film called The Idealist.
Poul Brink was a Danish journalist and whistleblower who attempted to reveal the secret behind a nuclear disaster in Greenland that occurred during the height of the Cold War.
The Citroen GS Pallas was back then advertised as a futuristic kind of car, with a very cool speedometer, highlighting and enlarging the actual speed, and it was the only car able to actually drive in three wheels because of the cars revolutionary hydropneumatic suspension.
The car we recorded (the actual car from the film) had been cared for and well kept in a dry basement for years, and only driven in the summer time. We had one shot session before the weather changed and the owner was putting it back into hibernation.
This little classic car library includes:
Long onboard/interior recordings in the city
Recordings of driving with microphones placed near each backend wheel
Exterior pass bys and reverse driving
Approaches on asphalt and gravel
Engine turned on and off, and Idle
Doors, both interior and exterior perspective
Trunk opening and closing
Glove compartment opening and closing
Horn honks
Blinker, wipers, hand brake, and switches sounds
Seatbelt on and off
Gear changing with engine off
Pedal stomps with engine off
The original 1957 Jeep model Hotchkiss from the French army was used during the Algeria conflict during the 50’s/60’s.
It was meticulously recorded in 96 khz 24 bits for high quality. This collection includes more than 2 hours of recordings in 432 audio files. The audio files are in stereo and UCS compatible.
The sound pack contains engine and exhaust recordings, rev, idle, acceleration, deceleration, constant rpm loops on onload and offload, passby, brake, handbrake, horn, hood closing and opening, belt movements, fuel injection button press, gas tank opening and much more.
The original IL4 cylinders engine produces a very unique sound. That will be a perfect fit for any old school military jeep in your project.
The collection includes mixed and raw files for more flexibility.
Railway Rides: Sri Lanka is a thorough collection of 67 high-quality railway-related sounds, a bulk of which were curated from a 5 hour train journey through Sri Lanka’s Coastal line from Ahangama to Colombo.
The main interior train recordings are from an S9 diesel-electric multiple unit (DMU) train, which has all the clacking-characteristics you’d expect from a less modern open windowed train.
The 67 sounds included cover all major aspects of train travel and station activity, from exterior pass-bys and the bustling platforms of Ahangama and Colombo station, to the clattering and rocking interiors of the train itself at various speeds and stages in the journey. File lengths range from 6 second pass-by’s to lengthy 14 minute interiors.
Each sound has been precisely edited and labelled to represent the specific speed, dynamics and stage of the journey to allow for easier cutting in the edit. Some sounds are also labelled with differing levels of walla and background chatter, some having clearly localised dialogues with others being indistinct or at times not present at all.
The library was captured using a Stereo matched pair of Clippy EM272Z1 mics into a Zoom F3 recorder recorded at 96khz/32bit and is available at 96khz/24bit.
Our personal favourite sound in this library is

Animal Hyperrealism Vol III is a library containing sounds themed animal vocalisations, from real to designed creatures totaling more than 1700 individual sounds in 279 files.
The sounds were recorded in zoos and wildlife centers. The asset list includes but is not limited to: european red deers, monkeys, reindeers, hornbills camels, crickets, tamarins, boars, frogs, red ruffed lemurs, parrots, and many more.
The content has been recorded at 192KHz with a Sanken CO100K plus a Sennheiser 8050 for center image and a couple of Sennheiser MKH8040 for stereo image.
Part of the cheats section of the library features samples recorded at 384KHz. For these sounds an additional microphone was employed, specifically the CMPA by Avisoft-Bioacoustics which records up to 200 KHz. This microphone was used to record most of the library but the 384KHz format was preserved only where energy was found beyond 96KHz not to occupy unnecessary disk space.
All files are delivered as stereo bounce of these for mics, though in some instances an additional couple of CO100K was added to the sides.
The resulting ultrasonic spectrum is rich and allows for truly extreme manipulation of the content.
Audiobeast is proud to present our second sample library; the only library of its kind to focus entirely on weapons being fired in urban environments! For this recording session we were given access to a military training site known as a FIBUA (Fighting In Built-Up Area) consisting of streets with a variety of buildings, vehicles, and exclusive permission to fire weapons in several locations. Pictures of the street and gas station locations and firing points are included.
The aim of this library was to offer the slapback type tails needed for gun sound design for convincing city scenes in film, games and tv production. It’s always been difficult to find gun recordings in a city environment so we hope this library helps sound people everywhere.
This Library contains over 3 GBs of weapons being fired in multiple urban environments, a street, outside of a gas station and inside of a tower block. 218 WAV files of single shots, bursts and many with multiple takes, all recorded at 96 khz 24 bit, with heaps of information on microphones used and distance from the firearms.
Various distances were captured, from the DPA4062 on the guns themselves, to the distant other end of the street 100 metres away. To add, some mics were positioned around corners, a nearby graveyard, through walls and in armored vehicles to capture a variety of perspectives.
Minimal cleanup on the recordings was carried out very carefully so as not to introduce any artefacts into the recordings, they are presented as raw as possible.
If you need a wider selection of interior gun recordings please check out our first library – The London Warehouse Firearms library
Florida Thunder by Eric Berzins contains 111 distinct wav files with over 200 dry thunderclaps and over 300 thunderclaps with rain. All files were recorded in the US state of Florida between 2021 and 2025. Florida has more lightning strikes than any other U.S. state! All files have been meticulously edited and cleaned, and have embedded UCS-compliant Soundminer metadata.
Animal Hyperrealism Vol I is a library containing sounds themed animal vocalisations, from real to designed creatures totaling more than 1300 individual sounds in 290 files.
The sounds were partly recorded with animals trained for media production, partly recorded in zoos and wildlife centers. The asset list includes but is not limited to: african lions, bengal tigers, horses, donkeys, cows, exotic birds, owls, bobcats, pumas, dromedaries, wolves, dogs, geese, lemurs, gibbons and many more.
All the content has been recorded at 192KHz with a Sanken CO100K plus a Sennheiser 8050 for center image and a couple of Sennheiser MKH8040 for stereo image. All files are delivered as stereo bounce of these four mics, though in some instances an additional couple of CO100K was added to the sides.
The resulting ultrasonic spectrum is rich and allows for truly extreme manipulation of the content.
With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
