Sweeping my flashlight across the still water I see the red glow of multiple black caiman eyes, a haunting stillness. Suddenly a reverberating splash breaks the rhythmic chorus of frogs and crickets as a caiman finds its evening meal, the first of many tonight. Giving a greater sense of space to this Amazonian lake the eyes of the caiman go on glowing, waiting for an unsuspecting fish to pass their open mouths.Â
It is impossible to not be present in the rainforest. Surrounded by mysterious night vocalization, stinging, biting insects, and penetrating humidity. Gratitude fills me for the Cofan guides who have taken our small group of sound recordists deep into their wildest territory. Nearly a constant buzz fills the soundscape which takes a few days to adjust to, but as I do I start to notice the thrilling variety of calls. Near and distant, there is a spectacular spaciousness and an intimacy that can only come from this unique location.Â

This library of ambiences from the largest remaining oasis in the Mojave Desert where the highest concentration of endemic species in the United States can be found was recorded in the summer of 2023 during a week when daytime temperatures were breaking 120 degrees Fahrenheit, (49 degrees Celsius) and yet the recordings at each of the three locations are full of wildlife calls attesting to the resilience and adaptability of nature.
Great care and no small amount of time was spent identifying the birds and other wildlife in each recording and the calls have been tagged with metadata markers that appear in Soundminer as well as most DAWs to make it easier to know what you are hearing and when.

Scene Shop is a collection of high quality recordings of industrial machinery used in scenic construction workshops. Some machinery are in good condition, others not so much so… expect lots of metal rattling!
Machinery are not recorded during active use (not during wood cutting for example) so the recordings are very clean and lend themselves well to being used for large elevators, lifts, automatic doors and generally metal machinery of any kind and size.
There are multiple takes for most of the sounds, all complete with startup, steady phase, and shutdown.
This collection is a mixture of stereo and mono, very sensitive microphones able to pickup beyond 20khz were used, so it was produced and post-produced at 192khz (these machines are already very big, but slowed down they sound even bigger!)
There are also some extra sounds such as the switches of the machinery, bursts of compressed air, large metal doors and others.
Kaleidoscope is the first library of the project. It includes field recordings of various categories made in 2022-2023. All files are standardized according to the UCS system. The library features various atmospheric recordings immersing listeners into specific vivid and deep states.
Working on this library was very challenging personally for me. It took over a year to perfect it. It was difficult to remember where each recording was from and why I made it in the first place. Sometimes, photos from the locations helped, where I had to dig deep into my memory and listen to the recordings multiple times.
Kaleidoscope is a collection of disparate recordings united by one idea – to capture the here and now. From the clicks of waves resonating in the concrete confines of an abandoned duct to the atmosphere of an empty hotel room, from rain drumming on a metal canopy to sliding crystals in icy voids. The library is presented in two versions – stereo and spatial (5.0). Everything was recorded on the incredible Nevaton MS50 microphone in quad and DMS modes

This is the perfect traffic ambient bed or road background sound for any media production that features highways, interstates, freeways or German Autobahn.
For this library I recorded dry, moist and wet road surfaces. I recorded sparse traffic, busy interstates and medium filled highways. The cars, trucks, busses and motorbikes drove slow, medium fast or at high speed.
There are highlight sounds like honks or sirens, rattling trucks, creaky suspensions and noisy medians. A lot of pass bys and vrooms.
Different perspectives range from close (<4m), medium, distant (>30m), top ( bridge), below (tunnel) to behind noise barrier.
Most sounds have been recorded at night to avoid other noises. Few selected feature other noises on purpose, like a cicada chirping at a truck stop or birds in close by trees for a full atmo.
Last but not least I recorded some handrails at the Autobahn with a contact mic. These metallic ambiences can be used for experimental sounddesign.

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
