If you're after hospital sounds, here's a beautiful suite of surround sound hospital ambiences.
Access to hospitals can be tricky. Credentials are required, and different rules must be followed for every step one takes deeper into the building. It's not as simple as just grabbing a rig and walking in the front door.
Our hospital ambiences were recorded during one extensive day long shoot where we were granted access to one of the nation's top medical campuses. There are surprisingly few “hospital machines” making beeping noises at any given location within the building, which gives these sounds the flexibility to be used in any large institutional building.
Each location was recorded in dual MS and decoded using the excellent Schoeps double MS decoding tool.
The end result is an immersive set of recordings that show off the reality of what a hospital really does sound like. Pick up a copy and cover your hospital scenes the right way.
Two versions are available:
Nordic Nature is a collection of evocative and immersive ambiences recorded by George Vlad and Pete Smith over a three-year period across the wilderness of Sweden and Norway. It is available as 24/96 Stereo and Surround and features highly-detailed metadata and separate documents listing the species identified.
We both plan on returning to Scandinavia and these trips will result in at least two library updates.
“Summer in the fields – Crickets and cicadas” is the right Library if you are trying to create a natural sound scenario during the summer.
The library contains over 8.4 GB which exceeds 1.43 hours and a total of 30 files of high-quality material in discrete 5.0 surround format.
Atmospheres ready to be combined with other elements to create the right sound for the image you are working on.
The Library was built in Europe – Italy, in the Lazio countryside. Between the end of May and the beginning of September and the sultry heat is audible in the recordings.
The squealing of cicadas is a fundamental sound element to design the sound of a warm and dry outdoor environment.
At night the crickets are beautiful.
Each place has its crickets that emit sounds at different rates and frequencies.
Agitated, calm, psychedelic, relaxing …
Crickets are a fundamental element to create an emotional night scene.
Other animals are obviously present in the recordings; morning birds, owls, crows, geese, insects and bees, chickens, etc.
The registered natural fields are near lakes, rivers, chicken coops/farms, country houses, woods and cultivated fields.
The large part of the files have not human elements like traffic or agricular sounds, other ones have some distant traffic and are pretty for contemporary countryside.
The Calm Crowd SFX library will add some discreet life to your backgrounds. Calm background ambiences are tricky to do in sound editing, so this library gives you a hand with those surround sounds.

WHAT SOUND PROFESSIONALS SAY:
Philip Eriksson – Audio Director (It Takes Two, Battlefield V, Star Wars: Battlefront I & II)
“Slava has some pretty kick ass sound libraries!”
Victor Mercader – AAA Sound Designer (Apex Legends)
“I find myself continuously using Slava’s SFX libraries to blend it’s pristine and detailed sound designs into my own sounds. They always add that cutting edge I am missing and make my sound designs more unique and pristine. The Sci-fi Elements sound library is the perfect library to use and blend into my UI designs in Apex Legends.”
Enos Desjardins – Sound Designer/Sound Effects Editor (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Black Mirror)
“Slava has been creating some really cool libraries which I find myself using time and again. Really high quality recordings to start with but then the cool processing he has used for example in his cinematic whoosh libraries really stand out. They are not just your standard generic whoosh sounds but are loaded with character and have a unique feel to them that is really fresh and cuts through in the nicest of ways.”
Bjørn Jacobsen – AAA Sound Designer (CyberPunk 2077, HITMAN, DARQ)
“Slava has for several years made high quality sound effects for me to play with. I use his sound libraries across multiple projects as lego blocks of my creations.”
Stefan Kovatchev – Audio Director (MultiVersus)
“Slava has put together an impressive collection of high quality source assets, recorded cleanly, and at high sample rates. It’s always refreshing to find a new purveyor of good source material. I particularly enjoyed Resonating Metal Force, which is comprised of very useable, unique tonal textures and impacts.”
Shane Tetro – AAA Sound Designer (Remnant II)
“Slava’s libraries feature high-quality, adaptable recordings and designs. There is plenty to dig through in every pack, making each library extremely dynamic for various applications. Their exceptional textures have significantly enhanced my workflow; consider me a fan!”
Samuel Gagnon-Thibodeau – Sound Designer/Sound Effects Editor (Dream Scenario, The Watchers, Hunting Daze)
“Slava’s Cinematic Wood Symphony detailed textures and movements blend so well in what I’m usually looking for in terms of sound design. It really brings proximity and sensitivity to the action while feeling real and natural. The creative blend of the wooden sounds with whooshes and impacts also makes them very unique. I’m finding myself coming back to them more and more as they fit in many situations.”
Yarron Katz – AAA Composer and Sound Designer
“Slava makes some wonderful libraries. He’s relatively new on the scene and his libraries have come to critical acclaim. He takes some general ideas, like whooshes and he injects some extremely revolutionary and innovative ideas to them, so you’re not getting another whoosh library – you’re getting something very unique, very fresh. He brings some wonderful ideas to the table.”
All aboard!
Trains: Rail Squeals And Passes, first recordings were made back in 2012 where sounds of specific screaming metallic train rails were needed for a documentary. Since then, multiple of the favourite locations for recording the special sounds have been visited, and the sounds have been used in countless features, documentaries and radio dramas. Very different and interesting recordings, some comical and some chaotic and brutal, have made it through to the final commercial set.
When the conditions are right, and trains pass a tight corner at a specific speed, the train wheel cuts into the rails below, making this horrendous sound. This is known as curve screaming, and can produce some really scary metallic squealing.
Besides regular train passes at different speeds, this set has files covering ear piercing rail squeals, breaking sounds and massive rail clacking sounds both from diesel powered and electrical trains.Trains Rail Squeal And Passes included 62 tracks and is about 2.2 Gb big when unzipped. All tracks have been carefully mastered and are all UCS compatible!

For this sound effects library, we traveled across Alaska, from the extreme north to the south coast to capture the spirit of these nordic and wild landscapes: Boreal forests, arctic and alpin tundras, glaciers, rivers, and lakes.
Here the soundscapes reflect the extreme weather conditions: Silent ambiances punctuated by the elements: Wind, snow, rain, serving the erosion.
In this wilderness, animals remain discreet. We had the chance to capture many birds with our microphones: Owls, ducks, seagulls, trumpeter swans, bald eagles, common ravens, migratory birds, and many other species – and a few other animals: Hoary marmots, arctic marmots, squirrels and moose.
-The sound bank contains 66 sound takes recorded in ambisonic at 24/96khZ (a total of 330 files).
here is an exemple of an ambisonic recording embeded in a 360° movie (go on youtube to listen the 360° sound) :
Rare close-up recordings of a blimp engine (2x Goodyear with 154 kW) .
A unique propeller motor with a well-known and reconizable sound.
I was able to spend a short time during an engine test with one of the few airships in the world, a WDL blimp in Essen, Germany. The engine performed three different constant RPMs and all the transitions plus some additional rev-ups. I was able to record the noises with up to three mono mics (one on the engine and the other two a bit further away) and a stereo set up (onboard in the cabin most of the time). Check the file list for details.
In addition I recorded one ambience with a fly-by and the cabin doors opening and closing, some knobs being pushed and the air valve operating.
All files meta-tagged and use the UCS naming system.
A slight breeze, the city rumble, distant people chatters, a bird passing by, crickets chirping, a little rain or snow, the tranquility inside the city is a fragile and magical moment.
City streets are the channels of all the possibles, a heat place for sensorial stimulus connecting people lives and their urban activities throughout the day. Yet when it becomes quiet we still perceive its energy and are able to sense the mood of the moment with serenity.
These recordings were made at ground level with very little editing in order to keep them natural and as close as a human would experience the city on a daily basis. At times, distinct activities can be heard in the distance although the most noisiest events were taken out. Each file is loopable.
Also, every season and weather condition are represented. This library has been thought for the universal need of sonic bed in urban scenes, used as glue or ‘exterior roomtone‘.
This selection is the result of 15 months of recording throughout the multicultural city of Montreal (considered the most European City in North-America). The mix of culture in this city gives it a universal flavor that makes it belongs to the citizen of the 21st Century world.
The library contains 60 Stereo ambience and 27 Surround ambience recordings. Each sound files are between 1 to 5 minutes long. The surround recordings are embedded in an interleaved wav files of 4 channels (quad).

African Desert is a collection of immersive stereo soundscapes recorded in the remotest parts of the Namib desert. It covers a variety of locations, from sand dunes and canyons to desert pavement and rocky outcrops. Subjects include sand movement recorded with hydrophones, soft to medium wind blowing over the surface of the dunes, and insects, birds and reptiles creating a sparse ambience full of minute detail.
The purpose of this collection is to portray the soundscape of the Namib desert in all its sparseness and beauty. Some of these recordings are not much more than very soft wind. A few of the included soundscapes feature sand being blown over the surface of dunes. There’s a variety of wildlife calls too, from insects like cicadas, crickets or flies to barking geckos and occasional birds. This is not a wildlife library though, as the focus is more on the lifeless beauty of this mostly barren landscape.

There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!

I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
