Wind ambiences is a collection of mono, stereo and surround recordings ranging from light breeze to powerful storm. Cold and tonal gusts, detailed swirling and strong buffeting wind. It’s more than 2.5 hours of material full of character with a focus on a cinematic sound avoiding birds or man-made noise. All files are carefully tagged with metadata and have thoughtful UCS-compliant file names.
I used a double NOS setup, with Sennheiser microphones and recorded in various conditions, including choppy, gusty, whistling, howling, calm, airy, swirling, and more. The slightly wider placement in NOS compared to ORTF helps to diffuse the less tonal wind characteristics.
Most of the recordings were made during winter, when the barren trees provided a tonal quality that allowed the wind’s characteristics to stand out without being overpowered by noisy leaves. I included both very tonal and more noise-based layers in the collection, making it easy to create layers and control the ratio between them. I also added nine variations of expressive mono recordings that were captured in close proximity to sticks and other debris, creating tonal resonances that sound beautifully natural and full of character.
I gave careful consideration to the file naming and metadata of the collection, keeping filenames short and concise while providing extra information in the metadata to help narrow search criteria.
• Quad NOS, Stereo NOS and Mono
• 96 kHz / 24 Bit
• 39 files with an average length of 4 minutes
• More than 2.5 hours of material
• Detailed metadata and file naming

The “Seismic Activities” sound archive contains over 2500 different noises from vibrations, shocks and their resonances. We have taken the trouble to use a set-up of different natural sounds, such as frequency drops, thunder or the sound of deep rumbling, to control two structure-borne sound transducers.
The “Seismic Activities” sound archive contains over 2500 different noises from vibrations, shocks, and their resonances.
We have taken the trouble to use a set-up of different natural sounds, such as frequency drops, thunder, or the sound of deep rumbling, to control two structure-borne sound transducers. We have installed these converters in various locations. For example, we were at a company that produces large roller doors. There we shook all sorts of pipes, high racks, tool cabinets, gates, and the like.
In addition, we worked with many household items to create a variety of sound structures, which should make the use of “seismic activities” particularly diverse.
Almost all of the sounds were generated from a multi-channel set-up made up of Sennheiser MKH80 (ORTF), DPA 4060 (AB) and a Sony DR100. So you can expect the best sound quality. As always, a Sounddevices 744T and a Mixpre were used as recording devices.
As always, all files come with burned in metadata in open standards like iXml, BWAV, ID3 Chunk.

A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
