  • 87 files • 96 kHz/32 Bit • 2.92Go • 42:47 mins

The trees that were cut on the recording of the Lumberjack library have been meticulously chosen because they were sick or to give space for other trees to grow better, to preserve the health of the forest.

On the bundle you can hear Chainsaw motor, cranking, starting, cutting and stopping.

And of course, it also contains multiple trees cracking, breaking, falling and impacting the ground.

We used several perspectives and microphones to bring many tones and make each file unique.

The bundle includes 87 files recorded at 96khz – 32bits for a total of 2.92Go.

Each sound has been recorded with high-quality equipment and meticulously edited individually.

  • Metal can be very tonal and used as an muscial instrument. For this library I used different metalic object and hit them, rubbed them, stressed them, bowed them, plucked them or made them spin.

Among the objects that I worked with were steel wires, iron gates, a saw blade, daggers, cloth stands, aluminium boxes, bells, humming top and much more.

You can hear the metal shring, clang, groan, purr, scream, squeak, scratch, doing, pling, wronk, bang, moo and sing.

The inital idea for this library evolved from a sound art object in Essen, a big hollow tree trunk with some iron strings on the back. I played it many times when walking past it and eventually started a decent recording session.

The sounds can be used to sonify bending iron gates, bridges or other objects but also as samples for producing music. Both tonal or percussive. Lots of them are also very expressive and can be used as a layer in voice design for creatures, monsters, dinosaurs or other giant living beings.

And of course if you want to add character to any weapon (from sword to gun), a tonal element can give it a unique and recognizable audio mark.

Most recordings were made with multiple mics, with one mic being the Earthworks QTC50, catching high frequencies and making the sfx perfect for pitching down fun.

Other mics: Neumann 81i, Schoeps MK41, Shertler Contact, Lewitt 540s, SM57

  • Metal friction recordings shine when using a rosined cello bow on a thin sheet of metal or a drum cymbal. Dragging a heavy metal cabinet across a floor creates a wild ronk; pulling a gritty old wheelbarrow over concrete is a hell of a sound; and pulling a rusty metal drawer through an uncooperative space is pure gold.

With this massive metal friction SFX library, you’ll be able to either design your own unique material using the included raw source sounds of scrapes, deep bows, slicers and grinders, or start by grabbing ready-to-go designed metallic sounds that are perfect for trailers, horror, games, and more.

This library contains 132 detailed recordings of various source metal friction + 29 designed cinematic metallic textures. All recordings captured on a Sound Devices MixPre 6 using a Sennheiser MKH 8040 Stereo Pair.

  • Materials & Texture Sound Effects Eulerian Play Track 550+ sounds included, 385 mins total $30

The physical act of precessing is an interesting phenomenon in with world of mechanical physics. As spinning object of particular shapes, sizes, and materials rotate on an axis, the eventually shift to a specific orientation or side and actually increase in speed and pitch as they approach a static state.

In this library you will have at your disposal 5-8 takes of 21 different objects on 5 different surfaces spinning and precessing in all of their textured and intimate glory. Most containing varied harmonics, some object/surface combinations are rough and booming while others are shrill and just above a whisper. Meticulously recorded and edited, these effects are dynamic and full of character, ready to be twisted, shifted, and warped. When layered in various ways, they can create some really interesting phasing effects as well.

Interested in the physics of this library? Check out Michael Stevens’ (of Vsauce!) most excellent demonstration of Eulerian motion here!

  • Variations

From a few modern trunks and metal tool cases, to 17th. century wooden traveling chests, latches and hinges, and dust and dirt debris falling and sliding off lids, this library will fit into most categories where something old and creepy needs to be opened or closed.

The library even include sounds of old rusty nails being removed from dry floor boards, and some tracks of hammering nails into wood too. Everything you might need (sound wise) to build a sound design around a vampire being trapped in a coffin, or being freed if you like.

As an extra bonus, library includes 13 tracks of designed coffin sounds, packed with extra punch and creak.

Not all boxes creak the same do they?

Looking for the different objects for this project made me realize that finding trunks and chests that have a nice sound to them, can be quite tricky. Some of the more then 200 years old traveling trunks recorded for this library did not have a very interesting sound to them, and some did not make a creak or very powerful open/closing sound. Fortunately I was lucky to find a bit of both.

I came across a local museum which had all sorts of categorized relics stored in chests and coffins, and was invited to go there record for a day. Many of the sounds included are the ones recorded her, where you literally could smell how much time has passed by.

Recordings were done with a wide variety of microphones, where the Neumann Kmr81I and Sanken CO100K were the favorites.

    Storage rooms and basements

Other objects for the sound effects library were found in friends storage rooms and basements. These were kept under less strict conditions and much of the time had a more gritty and worn out sound to them.

    We need more dirt debris

Finally I have recorded a bunch of tracks of dirt and dust sliding off different lids to add to those old coffin openings. We all know that a great amount of stuff will reside on top of a coffin after a while.

  • Designing wing sounds for flying creatures can sometimes be a challenge. And when it comes to creature sounds, it’s all about options. A small bird like a wren sounds very different than an adult gray goose. To find the right texture, and distinguish between wide and narrow wings, or to accomplish the task of designing bat or dragon wings, I created this library.

This library contains over 11GB of data consisting of 341 files and 2539 sound effects. Besides the typical fabric wing flaps, I used all sorts of props sorted by materials like rubber, neoprene, plastic, paper, etc. This opens the door to new creative sound design options to make your flying creature sound exactly how you want it to. I added all sorts of buzzing, clicking and rustling sounds especially for the flying insects.

  • The legendary Synth that brought beloved Droids to Life.

The all-time classic ARP 2600 was a synthesizer that was an immediate hit with musicians and sound designers when it was released in 1971. Most famously, it’s the very synth that Ben Burtt used to give R2D2 his unmistakeable voice.

Semi-modular in nature and with many handy features like voltage modifiers, lag control, ring modulation, a comprehensive noise generator, sample & hold, and 3 independent oscillators, it comes equipped with more features than you’ll find in many of today’s analog synthesizers.

Thanks to the Alan R. Pearlman Foundation and the non-profit studio The Record Co. I was able to access an original, mint condition ARP 2600 that is beautifully maintained and lock myself in a studio with it to capture nearly 7 hours worth of raw sound design material.

Putting the 2600’s immense sound design potential to use, I created this library to help you give robots a voice, create otherworldly ambiances, score computers with the obligatory “bleep bloops”, and craft larger than life weapons with a distinct retro SciFi flair. I also captured the physical, mechanical sounds of patching cords and moving faders on the synth using a pair of LOM Uši Pro. These sounds are included in a dedicated subfolder.

Infinitely tweakable Source Material with plenty of ultrasonic Content.

The resulting sounds range from droid chatter at various root pitches, impacts, drones, noise, and lots of other sonic source that begs to be pitch-shifted and mangled. In fact, the ARP 2600’s pristine analog circuitry and my high-end recording chain capturing it at 192 kHz means that most of the final material features high-frequency content ranging up to nearly 90 kHz!

This means that you can pitch-shift most of these sounds down by up to 2 octaves and uncover new harmonic content along the way. By recording at 32 Bit with the ultra low-noise Zoom F6 and Rheingold Music cables, these recordings are extremely clean and hold up well to intense processing.

While highly abstract in nature, these sounds are a great basis for building:

    • Futuristic weapons
    • Retro SciFi spaceship sounds
    • Droid and robot vocals
    • Otherworldly ambiences
    • Drones
    • Wavetable synth patches
    • and more.
This library features SoundMiner, BWF, Soundly, and UCS metadata.

Metadata: UCS file naming, SoundMiner, Soundly, BWF

Recording Specs: 24 Bit / 192 kHz for the majority of files. 96 kHz for files with less ultrasonic content, Stereo and Mono recordings.

    File Format: WAV

Gear used: Genuine ARP 2600 Model 3620 (1974), LOM Uśi Pro Mics, Zoom F6, Rheingold Music Cables, Radial Pro D2 DI Box
