Sound effects libraries where the file names and metadata follow the Universal Category System (UCS), championed by renowned sound supervisor Tim Nielsen & more
This sound library captures the unique acoustics of New Zealand’s caves, abandoned mines, and tunnels, recorded in stereo and surround.
You will find a variety of ambiences, from vast, echoing caverns to narrow passageways with close, damp acoustics. From the delicate trickle of water on mossy stone and heavy drips on dirt to the distant rumble of underground streams and the wind through old miner houses, these recordings bring the underground world to life.
This library reveals the rich echoes and shifting textures of these hidden spaces, where sound bends, fades, and resonates through stone and water.
This library is also available in The New Zealand Collection bundle.

This library features ambiences recorded in China’s Sichuan Mountains, captured primarily from dusk to dawn using drop rig recording equipment. While I aimed to exclude all human-made sounds in this collection, one of my favorite recordings has the sound of distant Buddhist prayer bells chiming as birds begin their morning chorus. A couple of files contain minimal human presence, but the vast majority are purely natural soundscapes. Finding locations free from human activity in China is difficult, making these recordings especially valuable.
The recordings are enriched with UCS naming conventions and detailed metadata, including identifications of many sub-tropical bird species identified using Chirpity and Merlin Bird ID. Some species you can expect to hear include Cuckoo Birds, Great Barbets, Koels, Nightjars, Thrushes, and Roosters.
Listeners can experience low-noise natural ambiences featuring dawn bird choruses, frogs and crickets at night, bat activity, water sources, and rainfall recordings.
*Note: All sounds in this library are included in the Soundscapes of Modern China (SSMC) collection.
Introducing Vintage Combine, featuring high-quality stereo sounds of a fully operational 1970s-era John Deere 4400 combine harvester. For this library, I found a willing farmer in his late 70s harvesting a small corn crop at his family farm in northeast Ohio. His combine was set up with a four-row corn head. It looks like a set of hair clippers, only much bigger.
I made the recordings on a beautiful October afternoon, placing a Sony PCM D100 inside the combine’s cab to capture sounds like door slams, idling and harvesting. The farmer was a real trooper and refrained from making noise during the recording.
Several exterior sounds include a pass-by, idling and throttling at different RPMs. Plus, there is an exterior onboard recording of the machine harvesting the field, traveling slowly up and down rows of tall, dried-out field corn. I used a boom pole to suspend a pair of Line Audio CM3 microphones in ORTF over the moving harvester head. From this perspective, listening to corn stalks being chewed up and spit out into the combine’s grain tank makes for a fun recording. Seamless loops of certain sounds are included as well.
For your next farm feature, consider using Vintage Combine.

The cozy natural rhythms of hums, scrapes, splashes and thuds soundtrack the pottery workshop where the earth meets art. Find the true sound of it with Vadi Sound Library.
About Pottery Workshop
84 sounds that are clean, subtle and capture pretty much every object and action of the magic of fire and earth.
From the rhythmic hum of the spinning potter’s wheel, to the splash of water, the scrape of clay with the tools shaping and smoothing surfaces, listen up for the symphony of creation.
You will hear the tapping and thud of ceramic pottery, wooden ribs, wire cutters, loop tools, and sponges, all kinds of rummage, and mud actions on the potter’s wheel. The clicking and whirring of mechanisms during firing cycles add a mechanical counterpoint to the workshop’s natural rhythms.
You will get variations of sounds in different proximity, size, and style of action. This collection is handy due to the clarity and diversity of the raw sounds. They have both Foley and practical usability and room for further sound design.
You will get intuitive, detailed naming, UCS compatibility and the usual Vadi Sound craft and attention to detail in 84 pristine sounds. Recorded in 24bit-96kHz.WAV format on our favorite Sennheiser MKH 8040 stereo pair and Zoom F6.

Evocative Sound and Visuals is pleased to announce its latest sound effects library entitled, The Amish. It is a rare collection of high-quality recordings featuring life among an Old Order Amish community in northeast Ohio.
The library features these sounds and more:
• The beginning of class in a one-room schoolhouse, including the morning bell captured from the outside and inside.
• Early-morning barn chores captured inside, including cow milking and tending to stalls. Bonus sounds include cows peeing and pooping right next to the mics. This was not a pleasant experience for me, but one that elicited much snickering from the youngsters.
• Hitched teams of large draft horses, snorting and whinnying as they plow a muddy field, with pass-bys and follow-behinds.
• The relaxing sounds of rain and rolling thunder captured from inside an old metal-roofed barn on several occasions.
• The peaceful sounds of clothes swaying on a line in an afternoon breeze.
• The sound of cornstalks blowing in the wind in autumn and in winter, when they’re dry and brittle.
• The tink, tink, tap, tap as a farrier putting new shoes on a horse.
• Bringing in dry hay at the end of the growing season, plus putting it into a silo.
• Interior and exterior perspectives of two working vintage sawmills.
• Inside a leather shop, where an Amish farmer makes hand-made flyswatters with his children.
• The rhythmic sounds of a squeaky old metal windmill spinning, along with water that gurgles from the pipe as it comes out of the ground.
• Wagon and buggies (onboard and pass-by perspectives)

From the art filled halls of the Louvre and the hustle of Gare Du Nord to the side streets of ‘Le Marais’ and the balconies of Monmartre, experience the soundscape of a romantic parisian getaway.
Crowds, the metro, patisseries, sunrise from our balcony, street cleaners, party goers and 9-5’ers rushing through train stations.

Is is an library of primarily ambiences with very little processing.

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.

A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!

We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!

A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!

I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!

A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
