Environment recordings, ambiences and soundscapes – from all over the world, and beyond
Ambient Walla is a collection of crowds and walla taken from a number of locations and situations. Everything from crowded restaurants and busy campuses, to more intimate and sparse moments, such as cocktail parties. Most tracks were captured with the Zoom H6, Zoom F6.
I wanted this SFX library to sound more natural, rather than creating something that already exists. These tracks are more subtle and are aimed at smaller and more dispersed situations, but can also be used for larger situations.
As well, a majority of the “campus” crowd and walla sounds were captured from the Google and Apple campuses. There are a number of quality tracks with both close and distant perspectives.
California Grassland Abandoned is a collection of 65 Stereo and 18 Quad Recordings focused on Abandoned old structures, various Int / Ext Winds, Metal Latches, Gates, Wood Creaks, and an assortment of other interesting sounds.
The recordings from this library took place in The Carrizo Plain, an open expanse of Grassland that is located West of the Mojave Desert in California’s Central Valley. Abandoned and weathered dilapidated remnants of old ranches, water tanks, barns, metal sheds, farm machinery, and corrals from a bygone era of the West can be discovered if one ventures off the beaten path.
An old rusted corral gate’s latches, hinges, locks, and ronks. A 1950 Ford Truck’s wild sound door creaks. The still quiet of morning ambiences. A very animated barn door. A water tank in the middle of no man’s land bending and booming as the elements of nature have their way. Calm, medium, and higher winds in metal sheds, small houses, barns, tall dry grass, and in some exterior locations out in the Plain.
The goal was to try to capture anything I could that had a lot of character along with providing a sense of what a lot these areas sound like. These recordings aren’t meant to be absolutely desolate so in a few of the wind and ambience tracks there is some light birds, and sometimes a few insects.
The companion library to this, California Grassland Wildlife contains a number of different bird species and a couple of other animals and insects native to the environment.

Take a journey to Kenya with this collection of authentic ambient sound effects, recorded on location in the country. With 80 individual WAV files recorded in mono at 24bit, 48kHz. Remote village. Midsized markets. Nature soundscapes. The streets of Nairobi.
Includes the sound of drips on:
I found a very long disused bore hole in the middle of an Icelandic lava field. I dropped rocks down it, poured water into it, vocalised into it, stroked a rasp file on a plastic bottle stuck into the top of it and other experiments.
The results were insane metallic echoes, delays and reflections.
Unique source material for sound designers and experimental sounds for musical composition
392 single files and 55 grouped files for easy reference.

The Shopping Carts SFX Library contains a wide variety of professional shopping cart sound effect recordings. These include rolls, crashes, drops, stutters, basket seat movements, skids, shakes, and more.
When the sun goes down the Forest comes alive. Well, at least a very different version of it. It’s a pretty amazing place, with the various rhythms and wildlife going about their business. FOREST NIGHT is 27 Files and includes the dense sounds of crickets all throughout the night and into dawn. You’ll hear birds making their nests, Owls and Poorwills calling out to one another. The random dogs barking in the distance, the cacophony of Tree Frogs.
Most of this library came out of a few different over night recordings in the Angeles Forest. I taped a couple of mics to an Oak and Pine Tree and hoped for the best. There’s also a few others from when I was feeling a bit more adventurous and decided to roam around in the dark.
Detailed metadata and markers have been provided so they’re easily searchable. Checking out the Metadata Sheet will give one a better idea of everything else that’s in the library.
Anyone looking for more in depth Forest Sounds that include Rivers, Lakes, along with the Forest during the day can pick up FOREST LIFE. That comes with multiple libraries at a bit of a discount along with the bonus mini library FOOTHILLS.

Hospital Ambiance is 59 minutes/1.80 Gb of ambiance recordings from an old hospital. 24 separate files – recorded in 24bit/96kHz A-B stereo. All sounds are UCS-compatible.
Hospital Ambiance was recorded in the rooms and corridors of the old (now defunct) Aarhus County Hospital in Aarhus, Denmark. A prominent feature is the lack of acoustical treatment in corridors and hallways, giving a rather hard and reverberant sound, which is typical of Danish public building styles of the 1930’s and 40’s.
Elevators and automatic doors are heavy and noisy; humming and clanking as patients and staff pass through them. Electric vehicles used to move patients and supplies around inside the complex are old and not exactly noiseless either. Finally, while I did not have access to operating rooms or the like, I did get into a couple of basement corridors, where there were less people and more Hvac noise (yay!).
In some of the recordings, faint, muffled or smeared voices can be heard. While I have removed passages with distinctly Danish words (which might also be connected with specific, recognizable persons), there is still a certain tone and pitch to the Danish language, which may come through on occasion.
All in all, this is the sound of a place that is no more, as this old hospital is being turned into expensive apartments or something to that effect.
The moving inner sounds of an industrial cooling system at the back of a small factory in Iceland was recorded with a LOM Geofón into a Sound Devices Mix Pre 3II
Canadian sound designer Alex Lane has crafted these recordings into dark, ambient drone loops – perfect for adding dissonant, tense and disturbing vibes to your film, game or song.

A sound library powered by Earth’s molten interior
This library contains boiling mud pits, blasting steam vents, a geothermal power station and delicate trickles of running water all recorded from multiple perspectives. The library was edited down to be compact with the game audio designer in mind. The recordings were captured with Sennheiser MKH8040s and a MKH8060 so both stereo ORTF and a more direct mono image are available.

Here a library of one of the most active volcano in Europe: The Stromboli.
The actual sound library contains 73 sound recordings for a size of 2.6 GB.
Eruptions were recording mainly from three distances:
• at 200m of altitude and 1,3km distance from cratere
• at 400m of altitude and 1km distance from cratere
• at 850m of altitude and 500m distance from cratere
I stayed here one month to manage to have the most diversified eruptions that offer Iddu the volcano. A friend who accompanied me did beautiful shoots with cameras and drone. You can have a look to the video. This project brought us to another one, that’s coming up in the next months, a type of documentary about the whole island and his inhabitants.
So in the future I will add more sounds of Stromboli, the city, the people, the sea, the animals, the ambient etc… that you could listen and download for free on my website.
I wanted this sound library focused on the eruptions, but I put also a few recording of the waves and water because they sound particularly strong and they suggest the volcano’s sound: All the island is little made of “fresh” lava’s rock, that make every impact very resonant in the bass frequencies.
This library contains also a few ambient of the island, his city and his surrounding nature. And some roomtone corresponding to the place where I recorded the eruptions.
All recording made with the Nagra VI. Neumann mics, audio technica MS and Micromix amp for some specifics recording.

Building Construction by Badlands Sound features eight long and loop able audio files of a large building being built. You will hear the roar of the concrete mixer trucks, shouting and whistles instructing crane operators, to the loud reverberant sounds of metal hammering of beams, and a lot more.
These sounds were recorded early in the morning at the same location with not many outside sounds other than construction and people working. All of these sounds were recorded with high quality professional audio equipment like Sound Devices 702t, ORTF Rycote, and a pair of Sennheiser MKH 8040’s. If you are looking construction of buildings in the city or in the distance then this library is for you. All files in this product have great file names and metadata with descriptive words with no number lists.
River Estuary is a series of recordings centred around the River Deben estuary in Suffolk, an area famous for its natural beauty and wildlife. It is a treasure trove of sounds that capture the ambience of this serene environment, with a focus on the wading bird calls that give the estuary its unique sonic character.
The library was mostly recorded on a boat stationed in Woodbridge in the late winter of 2018 with private access to the boatyard, allowing me to record safely over night. I continued the recordings up until late summer, making trips to other areas along the Deben in between. I was also granted permission to record on the privately owned Sutton Hoo side of the Deben, another of Suffolk’s areas of outstanding historical significance and beauty, equally full of life but further away from the rumbling traffic and human life coming from the town.
It includes the sounds of curlews, oystercatchers, redshanks, geese, swans, ducks and various other wading bird calls, as well as general ambience recordings of the area at high tide and low tide and all hours of the day. The night calls that echo over the expanse of the river at low tide are particularly evocative.
The library was recorded entirely in 24bit/96k with a double Mid/Side rig consisting of Sennheiser MKH60/30 and 8040 mics, encoded to 5.1 Wav. A stereo option is also available at a lower price. As a bonus there is a collection of bird call spot FX taken from the recordings with noise reduction applied, for those who may need to add individual wading bird calls to their ambience.

The harvester Claas Lexion 530 Library contains all the sounds a decent harvester produces on the field in one day. We were allowed to accompany this gigantic 300+ horsepower machine on the field and document all its activities. It roars and sounds harsh and dangerous.
Whether you are looking for realistic farm sounds or want to design a futuristic vehicle. The harvester files are ready to use or very easy to manipulate as they deliver sounds across all frequencies captured with high end equipment. Both helium-3 harvesting spaceships and apocalypse scrap transporters can be produced in just a few steps.
In addition to the standard exterior recordings such as bypass, away and up, the library also includes on-board recordings from the cab, from the platform, as well as various mic positions such as directly above and beside the cutting knives, on the belt, at the unloading pipe and many more. In addition, there are selected foley sounds, as well as a few distant atmo sounds.

There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
