INCREDIBLE SONIC BACKDROP
The PRAIRIES library naturally also comes with a generous range of wind recordings: gusting, blustering, softly blowing, breezing, roaring through the typical vegetation of this area. As special features, the library holds weather phenomenon recordings of grass fire and distant thunder rolling in.
This Library is also part of The Complete Quiet Planet Bundle.
Libraries from Quiet Planet are covered by a special EULA - read it here.
Yellowstone National Park, this library transports the listener to someplace far away from Earth – although sounds represent the primal geological processes of our beautiful planet.

Step into the essence of the wilderness with Forest Ambiences, a sound library that takes you on an auditory journey through the heart of Central European forests. Covering all four seasons as well as day and night, it’s your go-to resource for creating any forest soundcape you can imagine. The library focuses on ambience recordings, from bird and common forest atmos to wind through different types of trees and quiet forest backgrounds. Featured is a range of 40 bird species, including songbirds, woodpeckers, crows, ravens and owls. But it doesn’t stop at ambiences; also included are isolated elements like individual birds or creaking tree trunks for maximum versatility. To help you easily find the perfect sound, both English and Latin bird species names are embedded in the metadata, and each file name identifies the season, time of day and type of forest where the recording took place.

Finnhamn – Sounds From The Kvarken Archipelago is a collection of natural soundscapes recorded in the Finnish nature during one year.
Finnhamn is a small peninsula in the Kvarken World Heritage Site. Here you can find both wild coastal and calm archipelago landscapes, an old growth forest, wetland, lakes and open plains.
This covers in other words a lot of the landscapes you will find in Scandinavia.
The recordings where made during a one year period, so soundscapes from all four seasons are well covered.
The trail to the old fishing cottage on the hill of the headland goes trough a 300 year old protected forest that is home to a multitude of animals, birds, insects, trees and plants, some of which we get to know more intimately in these recordings. Finnhamn is located in the unique Kvarken Archipelago, which is Finland’s only Natural World Heritage Site on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Together with Sweden’s High Coast, the Kvarken Archipelago is the best place in the world to experience and understand the land uplift phenomenon caused by the last Ice Age.
The isolated location of Finnhamn and the adjacent forest is rather unique in that sense, that not much sound pollution reaches it. It is well worth a visit if you want to experience deep natural quiet and wonderful and invigorating nature.
The package contains 165 files with a total playing time of 14 hours!
Recorded in 48kHz & 24 bit with a Sound Devices 633 recorder, DPA 4061 microphones and JRF D-series hydrophones. Presented in 48kHz, 24 bit & 44.1kHz, 16 bit stereo.
The compressed package is 9.8/4.5GB.
The tracks are labeled according to the UCS standard, except for the first 4 characters that indicates the order in which the tracks where recorded. If you want to use a database that speaks the UCS language, then please remove the first 4 characters of the filename. You can then arrange the tracks in the right order using the last UserData field (the date).

FOREST LIFE is a diverse collection of 104 isolated Forest Ambiences and Wildlife Sounds. It includes all of the sounds from the FOREST DAY and the FOREST NIGHT Sound Libraries, along with the Rivers and Lakes featured in the OCEANS RIVERS LAKES library. In addition, I’ve included the free mini library FOOTHILLS.
FOREST LIFE came out of a love for hiking and exploring Mountains and Forests and capturing the wonderful soundscapes of that world. Most of these recordings took place in California, in particular, a number of areas throughout the Angeles Forest. You’ll also come across sounds from high atop the Eastern Sierras, San Jacinto Wilderness, Los Padres Forest, and the Olympic Peninsula in Washington.
A variety of different bird species are included, at lower elevation settings, higher Mountains, throughout the day and night, some in isolation, others sometimes alongside wind and when at night, insects.
Also included are isolated Mountain winds in different variations and with vegetation and tree creaks. There’s Cicadas along with different sounding Crickets throughout various times of the night and day.
In the water collection there’s everything from slow trickle creeks coming out of Abandoned Mines to the fast flow of the Hoh River to gentle lake laps high atop the glaciers of the Inyo Forest.

This library takes you on an acoustic journey to rainforests, beaches and rural areas of Costa Rica. Included are 73 recordings of tropical animals, such as insects, frogs, monkeys and birds, as well as recordings of the sea and rivers. The ambiences were captured at different times during day and night, in different weather conditions and in five different locations: Braulio Carrillo National Park, Cabo Matapolo (Osa Peninsula), Dos Brazos (Osa Peninsula), Cahuita and Puerto Viejo de Talamanca.
Ambiences from South Italy is a collection of sounds recorded over summer in Rome, Naples, Vico Equense, Sorrento and Positano. Listen and walk through the historic landmarks: The Colosseum, Pantheon and the ancient town of Herculaneum. Visit the most densely populated cities in Italy, Rome and Naples, and hear the lively neighbourhoods, cobbled alleyways and ever-present traffic. This library also contains suburban recordings made in Sorrento, Vico Equense and Positano with busy marinas, flocked with tourists.
Garden and nature in April: the fresh spring air filled with a morning concert of birds, echoing neighborhood chatter, gardening sounds, dogs barking, roosters crowing, jets and propeller planes passing overhead, as well as the dead silence and eerie presence of nocturnal animals in the depths of the night; the awakening of nature and residents in the early morning hours, and much more.
‘Suburban Wilderness II’ is the second library in my series of long-term recordings from a German allotment environment. This remote area, surrounded by forest, features cottages, ponds, and a rich array of natural sounds. The library blends suburban, residential, and forest ambiences.
‘Suburban Wilderness II’ includes 59 unique ambiences recorded in Germany during spring, specifically in April 2022, from 4 p.m. to 4 p.m. the following day. From these 24 hours of recordings, I have carefully edited and curated the best moments, creating a 4 GB auditory journey from afternoon to evening, through the night, and into the morning and midday hours in this residential forest setting.
To capture the profound silence of the night, I used a matched pair of Rode NT1-A microphones with exceptionally low noise, paired with a Tascam HD-P1 recorder.
The total duration of the library is approximately 4 hours, with most ambiences ranging from 5 to 10 minutes. Some are longer, while a few are shorter.
‘Suburban Wilderness II’ was recorded in AB stereophony at 48 kHz, 24-bit.
Ambiences from Corfu, Greece is a collection of 26 ambiences recorded in summer on one of the greenest islands in the Ionian Sea.
Stroll through the Corfu Town, full of small shops, Greek tavernas and narrow streets.
Listen to the soundscapes of some of the most beautiful and relaxed mediterranean beaches, including Issos beach and Agios Spiridon Beach.
A total of 57 minutes, recorded at 192kHz/24bit.
Sea & Surf is nearly 6 hours / 11 GB of wave sound effects – some over 15 minutes long.
49 separate files – recorded in 24bit/96kHz. All sounds are UCS-compatible.
Sea & Surf represents a decade of collecting wave sound effects on Danish shores. With over 7000 km of coastline to record, there is a bit of everything here. From the shallow waters of Aarhus Bay, to the roaring North Sea at Hanstholm on the shoulder of Jutland, I recorded waves crashing, splashing, lapping and even clucking.
I visited marinas, jetties, breakwaters, piers, a lake, and even the inside of a WW2-era concrete bunker. Here are close-ups from the waterline, from between the boulders of a breakwater and waves clucking quietly on the rocky coast of Bornholm.
At the North Sea, I recorded in several positions, from right in the waterline, to behind large sand dunes. I made sure to set up my microphones at several elevations, to capture the variation in sound this affords. These are not squeaky-clean recordings, as some of the quieter ones do contain the odd bird sound here and there. You will also hear grasses and other vegetation rustled by the wind, but that all adds to the realism, of course!
Recording waves is a bit like recording wind, by the way, in that it is basically white noise and can quickly be reduced to sounding like it – if you stand in the wrong place. This is probably the “soothing” quality, many people hear in wave sounds. However, there is a lot more to water waves than relaxation sounds, and so I’ve always attempted to capture the drama and the variation, along with the more obvious wave sounds.
Recordings were made in A-B stereo as well as X/Y, with the M/S sources included in the download. This gives you more flexibility to widen or narrow the sounds in post-production. Microphones used were both Sennheiser MKH series and Primo EM172 omni electret capsules.
Some recordings are focused on the distant perspective, while others zoom in on each wave impacting a surface, which is where M/S lets you choose how sharply you want to frame the sound.
Nature’s Fury: Thunder is a large collection of thunder cracks, booms, and rumbles, as well as full Thunderstorm ambiance.
Nature’s Fury: Thunder has three separate categories: Thunder, Rumble, and Thunderstorm.
This audio library was recorded in the fortification complex “Fort Dönhoff’ of the citadel city of Königsberg, one of the fifteen main forts built in 1877-1881. When visiting historic buildings I always try to capture as many interesting and authentic sounds as I am able to find. This library offers the users 34 ready-to-use files which I hope will enrich your audio collections and might come in handy if you need to make SFX for games, movies, TV shows or quests. Also it will help you create an additional sound layer for any project that takes place in mansions, prisons and old houses.
This library contains:
-big, heavy gates;
-distant and close chains of different size;
-metal doors;
-old wood;
-various vintage gear;
-ambience.
The sound library includes detailed, complete, UCS compliant metadata.
With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
