Urban Rain II brings you 53 urban rain sounds captured at various indoor and outdoor locations. Recorded at night or at quiet times so it’s free of unwanted sounds, this library includes light, medium and heavy rain over different locations and surfaces.
Key features:
Spring Box is 13 minutes/453mb of shrieking, droning, scraping metallic sounds – made by bowing a steel spring bolted to an empty steel enclosure. 81 separate files – recorded in 24bit/96kHz using Primo EM172 and JrF contact microphones. All files are UCS-compliant.
Here’s a collection of eerie sounds for your next horror/sci-fi/ambient project. Everything from low rumbling and rattling, to high pitched, harmonics-laden screams; long, drawn-out sounds and short dings and twangs. Of course they sound really good when pitched down, too (the last 3 sounds in the preview are shifted down to quarter speed)!
The Spring Box is an old 19 inch rack enclosure, which I gutted and fitted with two springs from a genuine Luxo lamp (so you know it’s good). I have been having fun bowing and scraping this with a cello bow, as well as striking it with various other objects. Some sounds are recorded acoustically, while others were done with contact mics.
You get:

Have you ever heard a material that sounds like nothing else? Listen to the magical timbre of obsidian needles. Obsidian is a volcanic stone that, in very rare places on earth, solidifies into needle shape that produces a very unique sound, purer than metal and smoother than glass.
I collected hundreds of these needles and I built 3 chimes with the needles that sounded best. Sound effects were recorded both with Sanken CO-100K and Sennheiser MKH 8040. All recordings and processed sounds contain a lot of ultrasonic frequencies, thus can be pitched with a great flexibility.
Have a listen to the unheard and create magic, ice, glass or any new sound effect you want.
• Dozens of chime recordings
• 200 needles individually sampled
• 40 ready-to-use processed sound effects
• 192 KHz/24 bit

“The Animal Symphony – Lion & Leopard” was made possible through a collaboration with the wonderful people at Terra Natura.
This sound library features 83 high-quality recordings, each with multiple detailed takes. Using high-end microphones such as the Sanken CO-100K and Sennheiser MKH 8050, along with the Zoom H6 recorder for stereo capture, we were able to document every detail and nuance of these majestic animals. The recordings were made at 24-bit sample rates at 192 kHz and 96 kHz, delivering professional-quality clarity and depth.
The collection includes an extensive variety of lion and leopard sounds, ideal for adding realism and authenticity to any project. With multiple takes and variations—such as close roars, soft roars, breaths, and more—this library offers extraordinary flexibility for all types of productions that require authentic animal sounds.
Each recording has been carefully edited to remove unwanted noise, and because it was made indoors, all traces of reverberation have been eliminated. Thanks to the use of ultrasonic microphones, users who choose to turn down the volume will still enjoy exceptional richness in frequencies.

Periodical Cicadas features the sounds of millions of periodical cicadas singing en masse. This library has extended drones and screeches, up-close wing-fluttering pass-byes, multiple pharaoh (mating) calls and distant cicadas singing from the treetops. With my latest recordings in May 2025, three broods are now featured: Brood XXII was recorded in south Louisiana in 2014, Brood V was recorded in Ohio in 2016 and Brood XIV was recorded in the hollows of West Virginia in 2025.
Periodical cicada choruses can differ in sound from species to species. Throw in variables like wind conditions and where exactly a species sings from, and you have a range of distinct sounds, bordering on the creepy at times, to include in your next insect-ridden project.

All files are embedded with extensive UCS compliant metadata.
This classic vehicle is drawn by two horses and produces mostly clank and rattle of wood and metal. You can also hear some leather creaks and the horses’ hooves and breaths. Occasionally the driver beatboxes some cues – clucking, smacking, monosyllables.
Some of the files contain solely the rattle of the rolling carriage but no horses – these can be used for sound designing any old vehicle on a bumpy road.
This selection of onboard sounds contains a variety of speeds, horse gaits and road surfaces. They have been recorded with the Sennheiser Ambeo VR Mic, and, simultaneously, with two stereo sets. For each recording you get 10 channels:
– ambiX B-format (4 channels)
– Stereo XY (Audio-Technica BP4025)
– Wide Stereo (DPA 4060) captured at the carriage’s chassis
– Stereo Mix of all of the above
The ambiX B-format files are ready to be encoded into all spatial sound setups: like 5.1, 7.1, 4.0, VR 360 degree experience, and more.

Use this library to capture the feeling of riding in a patrol car or being on-the-scene. The performances cover both low-intensity and high-intensity situations, so you can apply them to tense, action-packed sequences or more casual, day-to-day policing life. They can also be used to build up backgrounds or sweeten precinct scenes.
All sounds are delivered in 24Bit 96kHz format allowing further sonic manipulation and have been meticulously edited and tagged with extensive UCS compliant metadata for ease of use.

There’s a lot of material here – recorded and organized with a sound editor’s sensibility.
The recordings started out by chance – I’d end up in protest situations, and happened to have a recorder with me. This year I was a little more proactive, especially for the rally in Washington Square Park after the Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade.
Also in this collection: A Downtown Brooklyn BLM march, A 2019 Foley Square rally in response to border camps/family separation, A UFT protest at City Hall, and a couple different mics on the jubilant reaction to Biden’s presidential win on the corner of Atlantic and Court in Brooklyn. There’s not much underpinning music or other legally difficult material, but there is some. I’ve chosen to leave it in, for the most part, as this is also a historical record.
Quite a few takes are very long, and encompass changing circumstances. I’ve opted to use WAV markers, which I’m also providing as “Notes” metadata – making phrases, cheers, and other things I’ve noted searchable and findable!
Everything is UCS complaint.
*Most material was recorded on a Sony PCM-100, and originated 96k/24bit; Some material was recorded with the Sennheiser Ambeo Headset, and was upsampled to 96k/24bit from 48k/24bit

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.

A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!

We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!

A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!

I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!

A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
