Ambience recordings from around the world
Berlin Ambiances I is 114 minutes/3,69 GB of pure Berlin in 31 separate files – recorded mostly in 24bit/96kHz quasi-binaural stereo, with Primo EM172 omni capsules. All files are UCS-compliant.
This collection contains stealth recordings of various Berlin locations, including a good deal of train sounds and, well, Berliners!
I went to locations such as the Bodemuseum (crazy natural reverbs), the Hauptbanhhof (enormous, diffuse train station-ambiance) and Haus der Kulturen der Welt (great restaurant vibe and busy foyer). All this captured during January 2015, with a head-worn set of near- or quasi-binaural microphones.
Why quasi? Because the microphone elements are not entirely behind the Pinna (that thing protruding in front of the ear-canal), which means the true, 3-dimensional binaural experience isn’t there. In this setting, my head shadow acted more like a Schneider disc or such, which means these recordings should translate better to speakers than, say, a Neumann dummy head. Btw: the non-binaural recordings were done in October 2013, using just my Sony PCM M10 recorder.
All in all, a collection of useful ambiances for your next Berlin-esque project.

This unique library contains atmospheres from Cologne and its surroundings. If you're looking for that certain Germany city sound, you'll find lots of it right here, captured in the city centre, parks, churches, the Rhine shore, the trains, the subway – and the beer garden.
Ultrasonic Insects Volume 3 contains dozens of insect songs recorded with a sonic microscope: the Sanken CO-100K. For this library, more than 3 500 kilometers were traveled to get to beautiful french sites in French Alps, Pyrenees Mountains and Massif Central. All insects were recorded in quiet environments with close-miking for unparalleled quality.
An ultrasound detector was also used to find very high-pitched bush-cricket songs. Some of the raw sounds might need a little pitch-shift to be audible to everyone.
Get some new material from nature with the song of dozens of new species of bush-crickets, grasshoppers, crickets and cicadas. Pitch the sounds up to 4 octaves (and even more!) and find inspiration for your next project.
• 28 species of bush-crickets, grasshoppers, crickets and cicadas
• 5 species of flying insects
• Solo insects recorded with Sanken CO-100K
• 7 bonus stereo ambiances recorded with MKH 8040
• 192 KHz/24 bit
• Metadata UCS-compliant
• Each species is identified with scientific name, common name (when it exists) and picture

A distinct sound of the traditional English countryside, the ringing of church bells is an art that has been practiced for centuries, be it to summon the people to their prayers, celebrate a wedding, or announce a death.
“Church Bells of Norfolk: Volume 2” expands on the first volume of this collection of sound recordings taken at a variety of different churches throughout the County of Norfolk, England- an area famous for it's large number of surviving medieval churches.
The bells of each church vary in size, weight and tone and no two towers are the same, meaning that the resulting sound varies from location to location.
Some churches are nestled amongst the bustling town centres- their chimes echoing off nearby buildings whilst competing with the raucous noise of passing traffic whilst others stand in glorious isolation in the countryside.
Captured in this library are a variety of performances of English-style change ringing on differing numbers of bells as well as recordings of single bells tolling and being “rung up” and “rung down”- the process of swinging the bells higher and higher from their downward position, raising them ready for full-circle change ringing.
Aside from exterior recordings, this collection also features recordings taken from inside the belfry as well as below in the ringing chamber, capturing the clatter of the rope pulleys and the calls of the tower captain as they instruct the ringers.
Also included are a selection of static chimed bells including numerous clock chimes and a rare set of tubular tower bells that date from the Victorian era.

There’s a lot of material here – recorded and organized with a sound editor’s sensibility.
The recordings started out by chance – I’d end up in protest situations, and happened to have a recorder with me. This year I was a little more proactive, especially for the rally in Washington Square Park after the Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade.
Also in this collection: A Downtown Brooklyn BLM march, A 2019 Foley Square rally in response to border camps/family separation, A UFT protest at City Hall, and a couple different mics on the jubilant reaction to Biden’s presidential win on the corner of Atlantic and Court in Brooklyn. There’s not much underpinning music or other legally difficult material, but there is some. I’ve chosen to leave it in, for the most part, as this is also a historical record.
Quite a few takes are very long, and encompass changing circumstances. I’ve opted to use WAV markers, which I’m also providing as “Notes” metadata – making phrases, cheers, and other things I’ve noted searchable and findable!
Everything is UCS complaint.
*Most material was recorded on a Sony PCM-100, and originated 96k/24bit; Some material was recorded with the Sennheiser Ambeo Headset, and was upsampled to 96k/24bit from 48k/24bit

There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
