Want the sounds of Athens? The Athens Rooftop sound effects library delivers 9 long ambiences recorded from different perspectives, and at different times of day – from calm mornings to busy days and nights.
In order to capture Athens’ soundscape in all its nuances, very low-noise Neumann Microphones and Sound Devices Recorders were used to record long takes (between 8 and 21 minutes each) totaling to over 2 hours of audio.
The recording location was a two floor rooftop on a three storey building above a very small street with no nearby traffic that allowed recording the city with some distance from above: Traffic, restaurants, bars, construction work, birds – in some evening recordings we hear crickets in the distance, in some day recordings the AC of a neighbouring flat is running.
Most of the recordings can also be used to represent a general city ambience, while some takes include specific regional sounds like Greek walla, churches and cicadas characteristic for the Greek capital.
Want to get brand new sound material from nature? Get all the sounds from Ultrasonic Insects Volume 1, Ultrasonic Insects Volume 2 and Ultrasonic Insects Volume 3 at a special price.

It is with great pleasure that I introduce Modular Mecha; a vintage anime sound library made for those who love the sonic landscape of iconic real robot animations like Mobile Suit Gundam, Patlabor and Macross. Two years of research and experimentation have resulted in this collection of sounds. Every sound in the library has been run through my eurorack system, specifically assembled in an attempt to recreate vintage sounds and effects. From explosions to interfaces, mechanical movements and lasers, to schwings and impacts, Modular Mecha has a little bit of everything to cover your Mecha needs!
This project has been a labor of love and I hope you enjoy these sounds as much I did making them!

Recorded at an old WWII-era bunker just outside Halifax, Nova Scotia, now derelict and covered in rust.
These recordings were a happy accident, discovered on the way to record something else. This large, heavy steel door has been rusting since wartime, and when I noticed it I immediately knew it would have a unique sonic character. When moved, it produces interesting almost musical tones, rich with harmonics and ripe for processing.
This library includes a variety of sounds generated by interacting with the door in different ways (scraping, punching, and moving at various speeds).
We are the People is a sound effects library filled with protests chants from the 2012 NATO protests in Chicago.
Two locations give this library two aurally unique crowd environments. The downtown protests reflect off the surrounding buildings, giving them a neat urban quality, while the Ravenswood protests give the impression of a more open environment. Groups of protesters in unified chant ranged in size from just a few to perhaps 200 or more. Many of the recordings have wonderful builds, starting with one or two voices and grow from there, in both size and intensity.
These recordings work great as stand alone effects or for layering in some specificity to crowds. The next time your designing a defiant crowd, bring some authenticity with We are the People.

SCARE YOUR AUDIENCE TO DEATH
The Horror Jumpscares library contains terrifying stinger and riser sound effects and gives you everything you need to create sudden and scary shocks. Designed from the source material of screams, strings, synths and metal, these sounds are a must-have for horror projects.
A TOOL FOR HAIR-RAISING SOUND DESIGN
Use the sounds to build up creepy atmospheres and bring the nervous tension to a climax with an unexpected jumpscare. Loud and painful noises are a fundamental part of horror films and games, perfectly underlining fast-cut and action-packed sequences.
Included are 111 sound effects that guarantee goosebumps and are not for the faint of heart.
Open Countryside focuses on those airy and wide areas so common in grasslands, valleys, hills, meadows and glades in forests. The recordings took place between Spain and the UK, although they are meant to be as neutral as possible, so they can be used for different places.
Fully UCS compliant
Crisp, clean various types of pebble, dust, dirt and grit debris along with smashing rock impacts.
Great for adding some subtle detail to your ‘after the explosion’ sound.
I recorded all these sounds with my brothers during a trip home to Ireland.
Close to our home (out in the middle of nowhere), there is a little quarry with a lot of sand, dust, stones, rocks and some grass. There was also a broken plough there that gave some nice stone on metal impact sounds.

Vibration is 40 minutes/676 MB of vibrating, rattling and resonating metal and plastic panels in 96 separate files – recorded in 24bit/96kHz using contact microphones. All files are UCS-compliant.
This is a collection of sounds that rattle, clatter, vibrate, buzz, hum and oscillate. Think huge cargo vehicles, passenger ferries or mechanical installations with loose metal panels, resonating generators and such. The vibrating was done with a 100 watt tactile transducer (like a bass speaker with no cone) hooked up to an amplifier, and getting it’s signal from a modular synth. Frequencies from LFO’s and VCO’s were mixed, to get interesting vibrations in both sub-audio and audio range.
Holding the transducer by hand allowed me to move it around and find the sweet spots on the various objects (a steel filing cabinet, a steel suitcase and a spring reverb tank come to mind). Depending on the amplitude of the input signal, different sounds would emerge from the same waveforms. Now and again, the transducer would get too hot to handle, and on one or two occasions, the thermo-relay on the amp would kick in. Excitement in the studio!
Aeolus is a collection of gritty and eerie sound design elements performed entirely by intense winds. These recordings were made on custom-made wind harps, handmade props, barbed wire fences, telephone poles, and other found objects. It is utterly unlike a normal wind library.
This collection of layers and elements of howls, drones, moans, creaks, rattles, clatters, and clanks provides rich material for the creation of unsettling ambiences, eerie presences, spooky room tones, and textural sweeteners for realistic winds. Aeolus is filled with conveniently long takes of piano wire, power lines, barbed wire, and other found and prepared objects that rumble, chitter, chatter, resonate, and whistle, in both gusty and sustained winds. Its sounds are perfect for horror scenes, magical effects, straining force fields, steampunk ambiences, extreme weather, high desert dramatic tension, or rusty post-apocalyptic soundscapes.
This UCS-compliant sound library is not a pure field recording collection; it contains lengthy recordings that are both minimally processed and extremely time- and pitch-altered. Some recordings lasted overnight, then reduced to mere minutes, remapping sound events into unfamiliar cadences or into/out of human hearing range.
Aeolus includes over two hours of raw recordings and twenty additional minutes of designed sounds from the original recordings, ready to use in a project or to serve as a launchpad for further inspiration.

Shakers, maracas and rainsticks are great material for sound design and further processing.
For this library I recorded various ethnic shakers, maracas, rainsticks of different sizes and other unusual esoteric percussion instruments, like Kapel’ (circular shaker) or giant-size custom built rainstick.
These percussion instruments were recorded from various angles, dynamics and with pristine sound quality, which can be further processed, granulated or pitch-mangled to push your sound design boundaries further.
With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
