Environment recordings, ambiences and soundscapes – from all over the world, and beyond
Sri Lanka Ambiances II was recorded in 2017 on the same trip that resulted in Sri Lanka Ambiances 1. This collection takes us inland, to the mountain town of Ella, and the larger city of Kandy.
Ella has some distinctive sounds; not least the train snaking it’s way slowly through the mountains, it’s whistle reverberating between them. I also recorded distant distant loudspeaker “chants” or recitals, which, as far as I could gather, was a part of the Poya-days – a Sri Lankan full moon holiday.
Another personal highlight is the recording of an office clerk working an old-school mechanical typewriter behind the blinds of a small office in Kandy.
All in all, here are plenty of general Sri Lankan ambiances featuring traffic, barking dogs, tweeting birds and buzzing insects, as well as bits and pieces of walla.
York Vol. 1 encompasses the natural ambiences of the historical city of York. Hear the immersive voices of tourists at the Shambles, the musical chimes of the York Minster bells, or coins traditionally struck by hand in this homage to Yorkshire’s Viking town!
To create this library, field recordings of tourist attractions, voices, movement, cobblestone shuffling, creaking wood, train engines, church bells, hotel room tone, local traffic and more were captured and carefully edited by our Audio Craftsmen.
This library of candid sounds is perfect for designing textured interior and exterior atmospheres. You can also use its selection of bells and chime to layer a musical or religious element into your backgrounds.
All sounds are delivered in 24Bit 192kHz format allowing further sonic manipulation and have been meticulously edited and tagged with extensive UCS compliant metadata for ease of use.
The first volume of the Useful Sound Effects Wind collection contains designed and synthesized winds. 56 Files give you the freedom to go from deep and dark sci-fi winds to natural sounding polar storms. Sandstorms, wooing and gusts are also included. Ranging from 1 minute to over 4 minutes, these files are fast and easy to use. Some files are indicated as looped, the others can easily be looped in a DAW.
Metatagged and UCS compliant, all files indicate a possible use, but sounds can be placed anywhere in a project, whether it is in a film, a game, a dialogue setting, or any media presentation.
Since these wind sound effects are made from scratch, no disturbing sounds can be found, so no animals, no distant traffic… You get clean wind, applicable for any geographic location, anywhere in time, on earth or elsewhere in the universe!
You can find the following libraries in this collection >

During a small trip from Spain to Budapest & Vienna, we managed to record the most iconic places in the city in truly 360º spatial audio ambisonic format!
We choose ambisonic for our libraries as the most adaptive format in Audio Postproduction. We serve the edited and mastered AMBIX files, and decoded surround format in Dolby ATMOS, 5.1 and ST .
We recorded around 11 beautiful tracks in ambisonic format, 48Khz and 24 bits HD. As always, top quality recordings specially designed for film audio projects.
All our libraries are UCS compliant (universalcategorysystem.com). In this new category system all files contain extensive metadata like file description, Category & Subcategory. Haunting Ambiences Vol. 3 is the direct successor to one of our most popular horror sound effects libraries. This product contains dense, multilayered construction kits, everything you need to build a world around your horror scenes with separated stems.
Our Audio Craftsmen captured creepy ambiences and sounds from the cellblock where a couple of notorious killers (The Moors Murderers) were held at The Old Courthouse, Manchester. We captured various ambiences, creaky cell doors, metal bangs, vocalisations from multiple voice actors and much, much more. All of the sounds were then meticulously edited and designed to make 10 construction kits including a mental asylum, vampire’s prison, gas chamber, experimental lab, underground prison, haunted ship prison etc.
These dense ambiences include split stems with the same running length to encourage experimentation, allowing you to add or subtract certain elements, balance them or combine them with sounds from other construction kits in the pack. In addition, all of the files are available in 24Bit 192kHz with extensive UCS compliant metadata to integrate seamlessly with your workflow.
This bundle is perfect for use in your films, documentaries, video games, escape room/live experiences and other horror/sci-fi projects.

East River ferry immersion – pretty much all you’ll need to recreate a trip on the ferry – or how it sounds from the quayside/shore. Immersive binaural stereo locates you right by the ferry station with a groaning pontoon and creaking fenders and gentle river wave action. Then boarding and disembarking, as well as a suite of onboard sounds inside the main passenger cabin and out on deck. No wind buffet here … just awesome variable boat engine sounds and wave lap against the hull.
Binaural stereo – the next best thing to being there. Take a little trip … with the Audio Ninja.

Binaural soundscapes from Grand Central Station – recorded to have plenty of background (and some mid & foreground) voices without anything too recognizable – so you can add your own dialogue in the foreground, OR loop sections you like most without it being obvious. The central concourse soundscapes are fairly static – but others move at walking speed – between different locations from street level entrances, through the concourse to the platform. There’s even a couple of revolving doors and an empty escalator/platform to add your action onto. Recorded on (my) dummy head with high-quality omni mics – listening back in headphones instantly immerses you in the middle of the sound field. Binaural stereo – the next best thing to being there! And all with just two channels. So put your headphones on and take a little trip – with the Audio Ninja.

Establish the setting of any scene with the go-to recordings of The Odyssey Collection: Ambiences. Cover your needs for locations both everyday and exotic – from aircraft carriers to the Serengeti, nuclear power plants, brisk Canadian mountain air, Mexican bar walla, a Czechoslovakian office, record pressing factories, Malaysian forests, big cities, small towns and everywhere in-between.
Developed in exclusive collaboration with Academy Award®-winners Mark Mangini & Richard L. Anderson, Odyssey Ambiences delivers vibrant, diverse, high-quality recordings from around the globe – so you can focus on staying creative and delivering your best sound.
“Because Richard and I were so religious about fresh recordings, it was quite common for us to have a recorder with us everywhere we went. This allowed us to develop a rich, varied and international scope to our Ambience library without having to actually find money to fund every recording.”
– Mark Mangini (Blade Runner 2049, Mad Max: Fury Road)

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
