Home Animal Sound Effects Page 6
Authentic animal sound effects, animal recordings and designed creature and monster sound effects.
Welcome to a sound effects library dedicated to the sound of cows, outdoors in the field, as well as in the cowshed and more. The Cow SFX library was recorded at various distances and captures an abundance of mooing and cow movement, as well the sounds of equipment such as milking machines, metal grates and more.
Recorded by renowned innovators of film sound design Ann Kroeber and Alan Splet, the Beautiful Bugs library features an expressive collection of natural and designed insect sound effects including rhythmic cicada swells, dense locust drones, mosquito cries, isolated fly buzzes and more.
The impressive spectrum of emotion conjured by these artful insect recordings ranges from ominous, frightening, irritating, and disgusting all the way to lonely, tranquil, and soothing. Inject mystery and surrealism in your scenes or add unique character and texture to your creature design with impressionistic buzzy swarms, chirpy choruses, and heavy rhythmic pulsing.
Following the acclaimed sound libraries Cinematic Winds, Industrial Sounds with Soul, and Beautiful Bugs is the fourth exclusive release by Pro Sound Effects curated from Sound Mountain: Kroeber and Splet’s venerable private recording collection created over decades of film sound work. Kroeber has since worked on or supplied sounds for film, television, and games – including 6 movies that won an Academy Award® in sound, and 7 additional nominations.
The Beautiful Bugs library brings you 88 insect sound effects that were recorded and designed while working on major feature films including David Lynch’s Blue Velvet and Peter Weir’s The Mosquito Coast. These masterful recordings were captured on excursions in the jungle of Belize, the Alaskan wilderness, muggy summertime North Carolina, and an insect lab in Berkeley, California.
Rich, descriptive embedded metadata helps you find the exact sound effect you need with descriptions that detail the emotional power of the recordings beyond the practical interpretations.

This library focuses on isolated recordings of single insects, mainly from Northern Europe. While all insects have been recorded in the wild in Northern Europe, most also appear in all of Europe, Asia, North Africa and some have been introduced to America and Australia too.
For this library I recorded various species of wild bees, wasps, bugs, cicades, grasshoppers, flys, dragonflies, butterflies, ants, sandfleas and underwater bugs. A detailed list of all species is at the end.
You will find flybys, wing buzzes, hums, rattles, little feet, stridulations, jumps and even bites.
Over the course of years I improved my recording of these little animals by approaching them with a set of different micing techniques, always looking for the best spots to record these small creatures, making sure not to disturb them.
Many recordings were performed with microphones and recorders that go up to 192kHz to capture the ultra frequencies emitted by some individuals. Some grasshoppers you won’t even hear unless you pitch them down or play them slower.
While I find their crispy, clear and often bassy sounds lovely, some of the noises of the animals can be decribed as annoying, scary, sharp or intensive.
But besides for the original recorded species, these noises can be used to create swarms or all kind of insects or little creatures, like elves, aliens and fairies.
In addition to the close up recordings, I added a few swarms, real and designed, a couple of ambiences and a few designed insect sounds.
Some of the 60+ species (for details check file list):
Apex Furrowed Bee, Big Fly, Black Tailed Skimmer, Blow Fly, Blue Winged Grasshopper, Bow Winged Grasshopper, Buff Tailed Bumblebee, Butterflies, Purple Emperor, Honey Bee, Mosquito, Wild Bees, Carder Bee, Chelostoma Rapunzuli, Chrysogaster Solstitialis, Cloromia Formosa, Common Field Cricket, Common Green Bottle Fly, Common Wasp, Conocephalus Fuscus, Dragonfly, Drone Fly, Early Bumblebee, Eristalis Pertinax, Eupeodes Luniger, European Orchard Bee, European Wasp, European Wool Carder Bee, False Stable Fly, Field Grasshopper, Flesh Fly, Fly of the Dead, Flying Ant, Gnat, Great Green Bush Cricket, Green Blowfly, Green Rose Chafer, Grey Backed Mining Bee, Gypsy Cuckoo Bee, Hairy Footed Flower Bee, Helophilus Trivittatus, Hornet Hoverfly, House Fly, Italian Tree Cricket, Jigger Flea, Large Bee Fly, March Crane Fly, Meadow Grasshopper, Myathropa Florea, Painted Lady, Pale-saddled Leucozona, Red Tailed Bumblebee, Red Wood Ant, Sand Bee, Sand Wasp, Sawfly Macrophia Montana, Sceliphron Curvatum, Tritomegas Bicolor, Underwater Insects, White Tailed Bumblebee, Wood Cricket,…

• In Curious Bears, get an inquisitive collection of sniffs and snorts from the grizzlies of the Alaskan wilderness. Leave a microphone alone in the woods and hear curious bear’s energetic investigations. Hear aggressive sniffs and slow panting breaths. Hear massive footsteps in the mossy and leafy ground. Hear smacking lips and aggressive sniffs as a grizzly decides whether or not to eat my microphones.
• This library offers you a small collection of sounds from a wild animal. These are the curious sounds of a happy and healthy wild bear, not the sad sounds of a sad animal confined to a cage at a zoo.

The heavy summer rains spawned a lively cricket chorus unlike anything I had heard before. Hear 10,000 cricket chirps weave into lush blankets of sound that gently float through mountain valleys. Hear the slowly sagging pitch of lush choruses as nighttime temperatures fall. Hear the joyous chirps of countless crickets that will make you want to take out your tent immediately.
• This library offers you an extensive collection of crickets from a unique slice of time in the life of a desert. Hear the rejuvenating summer rains fill a desolate desert with 10,000 tiny violins.

Wozówka the tortie likes to talk and she likes to purr. And she’s often multitasking, like a typical 21st century person.
Being in the 5th year of her life she has developed a decent vocabulary. She code-switches, too, depending on whether she’s safe at home, or on alert in the woods. Every mood she goes through is marked with a different meow.
Roughly half of the sounds here are made indoors in mono, close miked with a Lom Usi. The rest is made outdoors in stereo with a Telinga.
The library is UCS compliant.

DESCRIPTION:
• In Hoot, get an eerie collection of North American owl ambiences. Hear lonesome Great Horned Owls calling on dark nights in the desert and cute bouncing ball calls of Western-screech Owl duets. Hear the haunting hoots of the arctic as the rising calls of Boreal Owls float through boreal forests. Hear the resonant calls of Barred Owls in the old growth of the Pacific Northwest and the almost-silent whooshes of Burrowing Owls soaring through the big sky of West Texas.
• This library offers you an extensive collection of sounds from a majestic night time hunter. This library grew out of hundreds of hours of nature recordings and several case of mistaken identity. Lucky for my mics the owl realized my furry blimp wasn’t a tasty rabbit at the last second! I hope you enjoy these sounds. Thanks for listening.

Coyotes are classic sounds of the American Wild West. A few recorded during the day, but many at dusk or deep into the night. There are also several tracks of much closer coyotes that happened to walk near the recorder as you can hear in the samples.

Recording animals can be tricky, fun and surprising. Recording bison bulls in rut is all the, with a fair bit of anxiety added.
The male bison bull can weigh up to 2000 pounds and are as tall as a regular sized man. When these animals are in rut, usually around late in summer, they are extremly aggressive and are not animals you should get in close contact with, without a wrangler who really knows what he or she is doing.
With that in mind Peter Albrechtsen and myself found ourselves on a ranch in Morud on Fyn, Denmark, where we recorded bisons in rut from the back of an open pick up truck.
The final recordings going into this library are both the stereo Telinga files and 2 tracks of Mkh416 amd Sanken CO100K files. All synced up, UCS ready and filled with some of the most organic and monsterous deep growling and otherworldly sounds we have ever recorded.
Recorders used: Sounddevices 702 and MixPre 6.
Microphones used: Telinga Parabolic dish and mic. Sennheiser Mkh416. Sanken CO 100K.
A note about this library: Even though we did our best to avoid birds, winds and distant traffic wash, these noises are some times present in the sounds. They are however not audible in the actual growls and bellows etc. But please listen to the demo beforehand, and decide for yourself!
The Farm is a sound library that I compiled about a year ago just for fun and I kept adding sounds recorded at the same location in the Canadian countryside at 4 different farms. During the recording session, I’ve been lucky enough to have met some fantastic people ready to share their passion for farming and pointing me out to what they felt was an essential part of their everyday soundscape.
I had the chance to stumble on two late 50s John Deere tractors that where still functional and that marked the end of an era. It is a comprehensive farm sound library that is not just about tractors or animals.
You will find, in the bonus section, 6 different footsteps surfaces each with a walk and run variation and some more. There are five main categories in this library: Ambiances, Animals, Footsteps, Misc (Various SFX) and Vehicles ready for creating a convincing farm soundscape for your project.

There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!

And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
