    Sochi is a city and resort area of the Krasnodar area in the south-west of Russia.

    City of palms, sea, snowy mountains and mineral springs. Its located along Black Sea coast at the foot of western part of Caucasus mountains.

    Sochi is unique place because of attractive coastal and mountain landscapes, long beaches and warm (humid subtropical) climate. This combination allows, for example, to ski in the mountains and swim in the sea literally in one place!

    Also, Sochi hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics, for which sports venues were built in the city and mountains.

    In this library we’ll visit several areas of Sochi: urban, suburban, coastal, snowy mountains and capture those atmospheres using stealth recording technique armed with a pair of DPA 4060s in AB array.

  • Travel & Transportation Sounds of the London Underground Play Track 189+ sounds included $40

    Anybody familiar with travelling on the London Underground will be aware of the distinct soundscapes beneath the streets of London; from the clatter of the ticket hall barriers to the eerie rumbles from the tunnels, waiting in anticipation for the next train to come rushing past before stopping with the squeal of the brakes.

    Each type of train on the network has its own distinct characteristics such as the moaning of the electric traction motors or the peculiar sound of the 1996 Stock used on the Jubilee Line.

    All of these sounds have been beautifully captured in 24-bit 48KHz quality- recorded both with XY stereo microphones and binaurally- creating a highly realistic experience for headphone users.

    Note to users:
    As many of you will know, like many urban transit systems, the London Underground is littered with pre-recorded public announcements.
    These recordings have been extensively edited to the highest quality to ensure that these pre-recorded announcements have been removed where possible.

    We wanted to add to a recent sample pack (Train Station Ambience), so that it allowed any Sound Designer the ability to complete their project from someone waiting in a Train Station to the Train Journey.

    We recorded the natural ambience of a UK train Interior, taking a Northern journey from Preston to Manchester Piccadilly and back again.

    Not only did we record the general ambience of the train interior, we managed to capture the sound of the engines idle, departing and slowing down, the natural creak of the train and the typical sound of train movements, as well as passengers boarding and debarking, the general Northern chatter and movement of the everyday commuter, as well as various beeps, doors shutting and tannoy calls/communication.

    TRAIN LIFE is a detailed and in-depth collection of various Exterior Freight, Passenger Trains, and Railroad Ambiences.

    Rumbling Freights roaring through the desert landscape, horns reverberating across the hills, passenger trains zipping by. The metal groan, creak, moan and clack, screech and bang of slow moving rail cars. Idles, Arrivals, Departures, Bys and a variety of Horns from Doppler to Close and Distant Perspectives.

    You’ll also find a few old Electric Trains, a collection of Ambiences from Harbor Ports, Desert, and Railroad Yards, and Semi-Trucks rattling across the tracks.

    For a majority of these recordings, Sennheiser MKH 8040 (ORTF) and DPA 4060 (NARROW A/B) microphones were used. When those weren’t around I went with a Sony PCM D-100 or Line Audio CM4.

    METADATA

    A great deal of time and effort went into the mastering of this library so the files can easily be dropped into any project. Very detailed Metadata has been provided so that all of the sounds are easily accessible. Photos have been embedded with each file to help out. UCS compliant, markers have been placed where applicable to make for quick navigation.

     

    The Story to Train Life

    The first Trains I recorded were while traveling around Portland, Oregon. I was camping along the Columbia River Gorge not too far from the tracks and throughout the night I would constantly hear the rumble vibrating through the ground and the long Horns echoing and reverberating across the Mountains. A few days later I was hanging out by the Willamette River under the St. Johns Bridge and was fortunate enough to come across a Freight Train going through an hour-long process of idling and connecting cars. Huge slack metallic bangs, slow long drawn out groans and hydraulic bursts reverberated across Industrial buildings. I was hooked.

    Back home in Los Angeles, I set off on the quest to find more trains to record. After spending a number of times sitting idle and patiently waiting for hours only to come up empty, I did a bit more research. A big thanks goes out to a few Train museums and Railfans for providing much invaluable information and pointing me in the right direction. I learned the times of the local Passenger Trains and found out what areas were better for getting more isolated recordings. I discovered the major transportation routes where Freights run from downtown L.A. to the Ports near Long Beach. I drove out into the Mojave desert on multiple trips and took the back roads that lead out to Bakersfield where trains rumble through tunnels and rolling hills.

    As I gathered various sounds, I made a list of what I was missing and tried to find areas where I could catch a Train doing that. It was quite the challenge! Over time I also realized that even when sitting for hours on end waiting around, there was a particular wonderful sound to the surrounding environment, and I figured it was probably worth documenting as well. Eventually it all came together into TRAIN LIFE.

  • Travel & Transportation Train Siemens Desiro Play Track 33+ sounds included, 55 mins total $49

    The Siemens Desiro is a high-speed train that is an engineering marvel and a staple of modern high-grade national and transcontinental rail transport, with various versions zipping across the UK, the EU, and the far reaches of Asia including China. This is a train capable of 160 kilometres per hour (100 mph), it is the high-speed joiner of distant big cities. For our recording project, we captured it across a comprehensive range of its speeds. Sennheiser Ambeo microphones were used throughout.

    Recordings were made inside carriages, inside a compartment, down gangways, across the ever-dramatic space connecting railcar vestibules, and also less glorified but vital locations, e.g., the loo. All relevant background sounds are there, including door movements, passenger chatter, objects in motion, and the sounds of the restaurant car. For the characteristic sounds of a great ‘iron horse’, inside and out, this is it.
