This Double Bass & Violin sound effects library not only includes weird low double bass bow strokes, stabs, vibrating strings, drones, harsh harmonics, string scrapes, bow stroke voices, and bright violin tones and screams. It also includes the opportunity to open up a whole new set of sonic adventures.
Why? All double bass sounds have been recorded at 192K/24 bit, with an amazing stereo set of close up Sanken CO100K microphones, and a stereo set of Sennheiser Mkh 8020 microphones, capturing low end and room. All violin sounds have been recorded with a single Sanken CO100K microphone.
Common for all Sanken files is that you're able to either extreme time stretch/time compress, or pitch up and down the files, and by this discover a whole new world of sounds – without adding nasty degenerating artifacts or muffling the sound. The ultra-high frequency range of the Sanken microphones does really make a great difference!
Recordings these sounds was a pure blast. The amount of versatile organic material in the set is great. The bass instrument has been played in a very innovative way, using both regular bow on strings and bass body, but also finger cymbals attached to specific places for a vibrating ring or rattle noise, creating some really other-worldly sound effects, and almost vocal-like patterns.
While the double bass material produces a massive low end without any further processing, the violin recordings really benefit from being stretched and pitched. This makes all the non-audible bright sounds captured by the Sanken microphones come through.
The physical act of precessing is an interesting phenomenon in with world of mechanical physics. As spinning object of particular shapes, sizes, and materials rotate on an axis, the eventually shift to a specific orientation or side and actually increase in speed and pitch as they approach a static state.
In this library you will have at your disposal 5-8 takes of 21 different objects on 5 different surfaces spinning and precessing in all of their textured and intimate glory. Most containing varied harmonics, some object/surface combinations are rough and booming while others are shrill and just above a whisper. Meticulously recorded and edited, these effects are dynamic and full of character, ready to be twisted, shifted, and warped. When layered in various ways, they can create some really interesting phasing effects as well.

‘Ice Skating’ is a very comprehensive library of 1000 audio files from the realm of ice skating.
It encompasses a broad variety of sounds using different skating techniques and features many ice skating activities such as hockey games, figure skating, free skating and more.
Most of the recordings have been made in an outdoor setting to reduce reverberations.
Almost all of the sounds were recorded using a M/S technique with AKG C-414 and Rode Nt5, and Sound Devices mixPre.
This library presents unique focused sounds that have been edited meticulously making them easier to integrate in any audiovisual project or interactive program.
The rare distinctive quality of these recordings also allows them to be a base for
any sound experimentation through a creative process; and can be layered with other sounds or treated in order to produce interesting sound design.
A couple of Ambiences are also included in the library. These are ORTF stereo recordings of outdoors/indoors skating.
Like every other sound library from Articulated Sounds, the files are embedded with metadatas (Soundminer/iXML/XMP/BWAV/ID3).

A superb collection of quiet alpine ski slopes and realistic onboard ski and snowboard recordings. The Alps pistes are known for their great snow and peaceful ambiance.
We captured the calm atmosphere and expressive whooshing and carving on these quiet ski slopes. Recordings range from high speed alpine skiers and distant voices of snowboarders, to a small class, on a variety of pistes. We also recorded onboard the ski lifts and crowds while waiting in line.

A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
