Yogyakarta Thunder is a raw, immersive field recording project that captures the electric soul of a storm in Kulon Progo, a rugged region west of Yogyakarta. Recorded entirely on location, this album documents the raw force of thunder, the whisper of wind through tropical trees, and the intense silence between lightning strikes.
Every track is a real moment—unfiltered and alive—delivering the atmosphere of a storm as it unfolds in the heart of Java. From distant rumbles to sky-splitting crashes, Yogyakarta Thunder invites listeners into a sonic experience that is both meditative and powerful.
Created by Sound Effect Stack, this album is part of our mission to bring authentic environmental sounds to life. Whether you’re a sound artist, ambient enthusiast, or simply drawn to the rhythm of nature, Yogyakarta Thunder offers a deep connection to the elements.

Captured over five years in a secluded forest house — THUNDER CLAPS delivers the raw, untamed power of nature.
Recording lightning strikes at close range is one of the most difficult — and dangerous — things in field recording. Capturing them in a secluded home in the heart of the countryside has made this process a bit easier.
Now sit and feel the intensity of authentic close, medium, and distant thunder strikes, booms, and rumbles — recorded at up to 32-bit / 192kHz resolution for unmatched detail and dynamic range.
There are no other sounds in these files but the booming of the strikes. All tracks feature clean, isolated thunder claps — NO rain, NO wind, NO background noise — so you won’t waste time cleaning or editing. Just drag, drop, and unleash the storm.
Note: The SoundCloud demo includes a rain texture just for protection purposes. This is not included in the library.
All files are recorded 32bit, 192 kHz, with RØDE NTG1, Line Audio Omni1 and FEL Clippy XLR EM272 microphones, Sound Devices MixPre-6 II recorder. Library contains wav files of driving and foley, mechanical and electrical sounds. It is also available in UCS.

Captured using contact mics and LOM Geofon’s, this collection features deep bass sounds, low-frequency hums, clicks, clanks, soft whirrs and the watery movements of the bubble tube lighting.

This library features a Sonic Snapshot into the sonic signature of Shanghai, China. Hear traffic ambiences from a city with the world’s highest EV adoption rate, street sweeper bells played by workers driving three-wheeled trucks loaded with cardboard, walla from art galleries and metro stations, and the low-frequency drones of passing ships in the Huangpu River at the Shanghai Bund.
We recently visited Shanghai, and our BNB had an electric mahjong table — so naturally, we recorded it. Hear all the mechanical sounds it makes, from the magnetic dice roller to the automatic shuffler and dispenser. We also captured manual shuffling, as well as tile and table foley. Many of these sounds can be repurposed for designed mech SFX as well.

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
