Certain sounds evoke memories of our childhood homes. By listening to them again, whether by chance or intentionally, we can magically be transported back to that time and place. For me, one sound that is forever engrained into my memory is that of an old vacuum cleaner. Vacuum Cleaners is my attempt at rediscovering the unique sound of the machine I remember from when I was a kid. To my imaginative, adolescent ears, it sounded like a rocket ship, a blimp and a race car. I couldn’t get enough of it.
Included are 35 machines: stick, canister, upright, robot, handheld, hand pump, industrial and central vacuum cleaners, plus antique and modern sweepers, a steam mop, carpet cleaner and shampoo polisher. To my ears, each motor’s unique voice sounds like something way beyond a simple vacuum cleaner. Vintage uprights howl and roar like rocket ships, classic space-age canister vacuums whine like futuristic hovercraft. There’s a central vacuum that can suck the life out of you and an antique pump vacuum that gives off eerie breath-like sounds.
I recorded some machines while sweeping back and forth in front of my microphones. For others, I captured them in place, in line with my belief that these motors sound more like rocket engines than vacuum cleaners. I created loops when a file allowed for it. To record a wooden Adler-Royal sweeper at an antique store, I asked the owner if I could walk around the store and sweep the aisles. She said yes, so I slung a Domke bag over my shoulder and gaffer taped a pair of contact mics to the sweeper. The result sounds like a muffled boulder going down a hill.

Whats the best thing to do with a broken washing basket?
Thats right record it and create a sample pack
We recorded the Washing Basket being Moved/Manipulated and Roughed up from Fast to Slow, Pats, Rubs, Scrapes and Shakes. The basket was a rough Fabric with a thick cardboard layer between the Fabric. Spolier Alert it’s not the one in the photo
Washing Basket Foley gives you enough audio to give life to any Fabric based Washing basket, it doesn’t stop there, this sample back can be used for other Fabrics and Textures and not just for a washing basket, giving it multiple uses boosting your project to the next level. Washing Basket Foley has been edited to allow a drop in ready and Royalty Free sample pack. These Samples can be used in a variety of projects from Sound Designing/Compositions for TV, Film, Documentaries and Video Games. UCS Compliant and Metadata is attached to the samples
Lawn Mower Ambience was recorded in an opportunist moment whilst recording another sample pack
We centred the Zoom H4N facing an average UK back garden on a spring ish day and recorded someone naturally mowing their lawn with an electric mower.
This sample pack has different perspectives from close to distant mowing, with different panning elements which were recorded naturally from up to down to left to right and a lawn Mower stopping.
This sample pack will be great for a lawn mower in the background of your project or wanting a natural sound palette of someone mowing a lawn. Lawn Mower Ambience has been edited to allow a drop in ready and Royalty Free sample pack. These Samples can be used in a variety of projects from Sound Designing for TV, Film, Documentaries and Video Games. UCS Compliant and Metadata is attached to the samples

344 Sound Effects proudly presents The Antiques Collection, a meticulously recorded bundle that captures the distinct, textured sounds of objects from a bygone era. The sonic qualities of antique items can be elusive, often requiring specific techniques and a variety of recordings to faithfully reproduce their authentic character. With this collection, our in-house team has delivered a suite of high quality recordings designed to bring depth, age, and historical richness to your projects.
The Antiques Collection features a thoughtfully curated selection of objects, sourced over several years through trusted auctioneers across the UK, and a dedicated independent antiques dealer based in our home city of Manchester, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution.
This bundle contains recordings of antiques such as mechanical typewriters, rotary telephones, vintage bottles, dusty books, old clocks, metal boxes, luggage, and antique cutlery. These aren’t just props, they’re full of tonal nuance. From the weighty click of typewriter keys to the gentle clink of glass bottles, every sound has been captured with precision and care to highlight the tactile, resonant qualities that only age and craftsmanship can produce.
Each recording in this bundle was performed and captured under controlled studio conditions, meticulously tested across a variety of surfaces and materials to ensure realism, clarity, warmth, and sonic consistency. You’ll hear the weighty thud of vintage luggage being set down, the crisp ticks of antique wooden clocks, the textured rustle of pages in a well-worn book, and the delicate clink of aged cutlery against a handcrafted oak table. Whether you’re designing sound for period films, historical documentaries, games, or audio dramas, this bundle provides an immediate and authentic solution, saving you the time and effort of sourcing rare items yourself.
With over 700 files and 2.8GB, 24bit, 96kHz, of professionally captured antique recordings, this bundle offers a comprehensive library of unique, characterful sounds, making it your go-to resource for adding genuine vintage detail and historical depth to any audio project.
Quietsub FX Construction
A large collection of 1,097 Construction sound effects. This contains the sounds made fixing around the home and noises made by professionals, as loud as they may be.
It seems people are always building something. They also make a lot of noise doing it. From home building, workshops, public works projects, home renovation and plumbing, even Blacksmiths! This collection covers all the bases.
Production of this collection was challenging. Although recording stationary sounds like hammers and saws is relatively simple, they still have to be located and gain permission to record items. Also, large construction equipment has be recorded on-site. Getting close enough can be difficult. Being polite and respectable to workers always helps. It can be dusty, dirty, and you deal with conflicting background sounds such as road traffic.

Vintage Radio includes long takes of AM and FM frequency browsing, along foley content featuring all the buttons and switches present on this old-school stereo receiver.
The AM static and noise recordings have a warmth rarely found on modern radios, perfect for use in military settings or obscure transmissions in spy flicks. The FM browsing sounds feature traditional rapid radio station switching with garbled voices, brief musical stings, and a mix of cleaner, harsher static and noise suitable for more modern contexts.
Both the AM and FM browsing takes also include extended segments where I experiment with this stereo receiver’s equalizer. These takes possess a certain musicality, as the frequency boosts and reductions introduce additional variation to the aforementioned neutral recordings.
To complement this library, there are foley recordings of all the buttons, faders and switches on this stereo receiver’s front panel.

There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
