The highlights are back, and this week we have 25 new sound libraries to feature from our excellent contributing SFX library creators!

In this roundup, you can hear sounds of vehicles, like a modded Mazda RX-8, vintage late 1800s and 1900s lawnmowers, two new collections of Eastern European trains, a sailboat recorded in Ambonsics, and a roaring motorcycle speedway.

It was recorded onboard with set of microphones under the hood (intake and two engine perspectives), on the back of the car (three exhaust perspectives) + stereo setup on the front seats in sync with engine / exhaust. Various styles of driving were covered, from regular driving through high speed spirited driving, aggressive accelerations up to RPM ramps and slow and steady increase for looping in game audio. Engine start, idle, stepping on the gas repeatedly and burnouts are also included. Exterior passes were recorded in mono and stereo, slow by sounds, fast ones, stopping, and differenty parking maneuvers. This library also features a lot of “foley” kind of recordings, so everything from door sounds to interior effects like handbrake, seatbelts, different locks, turn signals and so on.

    The recordings were made at 48KHz and 24 bit resolution, so you’re good to go with cinematic projects too.

    We sampled each note chromatically, so every single note from the original instrument is there, no pitch shifting. We also sampled the sounds combination, so the third sound it’s sampled as it comes out the original keyboard.

    The interface on the original instrument is extremely simple and basic, but all the controls are implemented in “Cellotron 1976”. We added two effects for added flexibility and sonic possibilities, but we tried to keep the simple controls wise, to fit in the spirit of the original instrument.

'Quiet School Ambiences' by West Wolf was recorded in several schools in Bulgaria during summer vacation. They are old and have a characteristic sound with creaking doors and interesting spaces, corridors, rooms, toilets, a basement and even an attic inhabited by many pigeons.

    “Quiet School Ambiences” is a library recorded in several schools in Bulgaria (Eastern Europe) during summer vacation. They are old and have a characteristic sound with creaking doors and interesting spaces, corridors, rooms, toilets, a basement and even an attic inhabited by many pigeons. Some of the tracks were recorded in a school located in a small town and there is almost no noise from heavy traffic, only a few birds. Another part of the atmospheres were recorded in a big city very close to a main boulevard and you will hear heavy traffic. In some of the tracks, there is light human activity from teachers on duty or security, footsteps, distant voices, etc.
    The library includes several doors with a specific sound recorded from a classroom and from a corridor because the reverberation is different. You will also hear lights turning on and off. Much of the library was recorded with two stereo setups at the same time, usually in different directions (corridors and bathrooms) or different configurations (doors). There are also bonus tracks similar to the main files.
    Gear used: Sound Devices 833, Edirol R4pro, Neumann KM184 st, Schoeps MK4 st, Usi Pro.

Trains from Bulgaria

'Trains from Bulgaria' by Sava Ivanov has a variety of sounds of passenger trains and freight trains. It includes leaving and arriving trains from small train stations, brake squeaking, and train horns from the historic Ruse – Varna line, which ran the famous “Orient Express”.

    The first railway line built in today’s Bulgarian lands was the Ruse – Varna line. It was opened for traffic on November 7, 1866, and its length is 223 km.

    The original idea was for the line to improve transport and communications in the Ottoman Empire and to be incorporated into the international railway connecting London and Constantinople.

    This never happens due to the poor execution of the road. However, the railway line was included in the Paris-Tsarigrad route, and between 1883 and 1885 the famous “Orient Express” ran along the Ruse-Varna route.

You will hear electrical hums droning, aggressive digital buzzing, erratic RF-hits, clicks, glitches & interferences. The sounds of data transmissions and the sounds of electro-magnetic engines oscillating and fluctuating in a strange way. These sounds have been captured with a device for electromagnetic listening. They are perfectly suited to kick start your creativity and enhance your sonic palette. These abstract sounds build make great production elements for your creative Sound Design work.

    The idea behind the SOUND THEMES SERIES is to record and portrait sound related to a certain theme, subject or object of interest.
