This week on A Sound Effect, we have sonic situations ranging from brewing a cup of joe to exploring the depths of the sea. You can hear sounds of a European cafe, classic vegetable foley, dangerous electrical shocks and overloads, exploding glass, and life within a protective suit. You can also hear interesting ambiences with trippy delayed atmospheres, boisterous Rocky Mountain mornings, and excited fans at an arena show. And don’t forget, Dehumaniser 2 is now available at an interesting new price point. Happy listening!
'Space Divers' is a unique and ambitious library by Lukáš Tvrdoň. This massive collection of over 1,000 sounds focuses on what one would hear within a suit that protects from a lack of oxygen - whether in space or deep underwater. You will hear impacts, underwater rumbles and bubbles, vehicle noises, breaths, footsteps, tools, button sounds, and more, for a highly expressive, claustrophobic collection. If your characters travel to the depths of the sea or space, you must check out this library.
Thomas Rex Beverly has released his 4th Rocky Mountain collection, 'Northern Rockies: Active Nature'. This collection gets you over 6 hours of lively ambiences, from boisterous dawn choruses to peaceful sunny afternoons. You can hear multitudes of birds - with kinglets, robins, warblers, loons, juncos, sparrows, and more - as well as mischievous squirrels, swaying trees, and twittering bats. You'll even get a few recordings that last well over a half hour, giving you all the transitions you could hope for!
'Surround At the Show 2 5.1 + Stereo' by 2496 Sound Effects is their second installment of crowds cheering, clapping, whistling, and swelling in excitement. This library was recorded at the Staples Arena, a traveling circus, and a political rally in Los Angeles, offering you immersive 5.1 recordings from various situations - from large surges and emphatic encores to small hoots and single cheers. All together you get over 100 swells that are perfect for your transitions, positive reinforcements, and anytime you want it to be known the fans are delighted.
'Vegetable Murder – Crush & Crunch' by Fox Audio Post-Production is a quick pack of sound effects made from torturing poor, little veggies. In it you can find 42 sounds of crunching, cracking, crushing, peeling, cutting, and biting carrot sticks, celery stalks, onions, and peppers. Each sound is on its own individual track, and these high-quality sounds can, of course, be pitched down for a more monstrous effect. If you need gore and bone-crushing sounds fast, give this one a listen.
Here is another small pack of sounds that will hit the spot. 'DELAY_Small Pack' by MatiasMacSD is a trippy, experimental sound library with 31 ambiences that will give your project a strange atmosphere. Using sounds of instruments and metal impacts, these effects have been slowed down and delayed to create an assortment of textures that are often unrecognizable from their source material. For the price, you can't go wrong! If you want your audience to feel like they're experiencing an altered state of mind, this one should do it.
Detunized has released a new library, and as usual, they took a whole other approach in its design. 'Coffee Shop' features the sounds and ambiences of a European cafe. With 210 minutes of recordings, you'll receive cozy ambiences, close-ups of coffee grinders, liquids and espresso makers, and sounds you may have forgotten, like cleaning tables, creating frozen drinks, heating up sandwiches, and shop door sounds. You even get sparse room tones of the appliances running! If you need a well-rounded library for your cafe scenes, look no further.
When it comes to recording high voltage electricity, it is best to leave it to the pros like Kevin Durr. His new, aptly-named library 'High Voltage Electricity - The Essential Collection' has the shocks, sparks, hums, overloads, and electrocution you need for... whatever purpose you need them! Whether your project has a Frankenstein-like experimentation, an electrical fire, a dramatic car crash, or an amazing time machine, you will find the Tesla coils, Jacob's Ladders, transformers, and power supplies you need to give your mad creations life.
'Dehumaniser 2' by Krotos Audio has everything you love about the first version with even more features! Whether you have live or pre-recorded vocals, this program will help you create chilling, realistic monster sounds with over 100 beastly presets and 133 animal recordings of big cats and farm animals. With this plug-in, you can automate parameters, run multiple instances, use two instances of each node (for simultaneous pitch shifting, granular processors, etc.), and trigger samples based on amplitude and pitch. If monster sounds are your bread and butter, this tool is a must-have. Now available at an new, lower price.
As Tall Tale Sound says in their library description, "There's something thrilling about the sound of glass breaking." There is something satisfying about an explosion of glassy debris (as long as you're wearing your safety goggles), and 'Fragile! Glass Smashing SFX' is full of these dangerously pleasant sounds with almost 200 shatters from various perspectives. You'll hear the destruction of cups, plates, bottles, jugs, jars, and windows that are both dry of reverb and worldized. If you need the sharp sounds of debris, check this one out.
The indie sound community is on fire right now! 5 brand-new releases just came out, and they’ll be covered in the next recap – but if you want to check them out right now, here they are:
