This week on A Sound Effect, we've got sonic treats to fill your projects with atmosphere and detail!

First up, you can dive into ambiences with chatter and laughter from a French wedding, hauntingly beautiful dystopian soundscapes, an essential bundle of everything from theme parks to alien worlds, and the relaxing wash of mountain rivers and tropical waves.

To add some animals to your mix, check out sounds of lively donkeys, chirping frogs, and bleating goats and sheep.

Need some rumbling road action? We've got sounds of a Nissan Frontier Truck, a Mercedes Benz C Class, a '13 Renault Captur, and long car pass bys, as well as 24 vehicles with engine problems (+ broken down boats, lawnmowers and power tools) and a broken down '06 Volvo V50 T5 that has engine knocking and even overheats!

Finally, for sounds that meet your specific needs, we have music for RPG combat, sounds of rummaging through trash, opening and closing drawers and cupboards, noises and haptics from telephones and computers, and foley from an acoustic guitar.

Happy listening!

Zombie sound effects library
Kaput

'Kaput' by SonicSalute is all about the glorious sounds of engine failure! It features 24 vehicles, a boat engine, and even broken power tools for a wide variety of malfunctioning engines from sputtering lawnmowers to backfiring muscle cars.

  • Presenting the most malfunctioning, dirty old gritty sounding engine failure library out there

Featuring a staggering 81 files with numerous takes in most tracks, the Kaput sound effects library will cover the bases of almost any broken false starting engine scene one can imagine.

I can honestly say, that finding the vehicles and tools for this library, has been among the most challenging I have come by. Old and broken cars and trucks are hard to come by these days. Most cars are obviously either driving and dont have start problems, and many of the rest just wont start at all.

Just as rare are broken petrol powered tools, which usually fit the latter category of not working at all.

Still, with amazing recording help from recordist Michal Fojcik Soundmind Poland, and just as amazing help from recordist Erik Watland from Norway, the Kaput sound effects library is featuring no less then

24 different cars, trucks, moped and motorcycles

    1 boat engine

A few weird sounding power generators and water pump motors

    Back firing exhausts

Petrol powered garden tools, chain saws, and hedge trimmers

    Brutal construction machines

From old eastern european trucks, vintage US V8 muscle trucks, classic scandinavian cars, and more modern diesel and petrol engines to funny sputtering dying petrol power tools.

There is even a few more recording sessions planned, that just didn’t make the deadline for the first batch of sounds in this library (buying a copy of this first of sounds, will of course make any future sounds added to the library free of charge).

KAPUT is 81 stereo and mono files, 96/24. 1,6 gb big, all UCS ready!

    Quick note about the download:

Please note that the Future Dystopia Sound-Set is 5.4GB when uncompressed. To make delivery more streamlined, we have compressed this file to the “.zip” format.
Because Windows users might have issues opening a “.zip” file over 4GB, we have included a “.rar” version of the file so Windows users can avoid any issues.

TLDR: If you are on a Mac computer, just open the “.zip” file and for Windows users, open the “.rar” file.

Telephones & Computers

'Telephones & Computers' by Diegetix Sound LLC has over 1200 sounds, featuring everything from mouse clicks and USB drive noises to classic beeps, ringtones (and stems), and even haptic feedback.

  • As a sound editor, I always found it frustrating when cutting cellphone ringtones and beeps for movies or TV shows. Firstly, we are unable to use copyrighted tunes, often leading us to resort to old 90s cellphone ringtones. Secondly, the challenge lies in ensuring that the beeps and ringtones are not overly intrusive while still being easily recognizable.

To address these issues, I developed the “Telephones and Computers Survival Toolkit” sound effects library. This comprehensive collection includes 1221 sound effects, encompassing mouse clicks and movements, USB drive insert/eject sounds, power-up chords, old-school beeps, animation sounds, cellphone ringtones, cellphone beeps, haptics, etc. Additionally, some cellphone ringtones are organized in patterns, allowing users to mix pattern “stems” and create new variations of ringtones.

All sound effects are provided at 48kHz/24-bit, in raw or “full bandwidth” format. This enables users to modify the sounds using their preferred plugins.

Regarding the provided demo files on SoundCloud:
The sound effects have intentionally been altered to give listeners a realistic sense of how they would sound in a real-life situation.

Long Car Pass Bys

'Long Car Pass Bys' by FENNEC FX provides ten recordings of cars traversing a long, quiet road. Each effect captures the car approaching from afar, passing by, and fading into the distance. Recordings are crystal clear and free from distractions.

  • Traffic Sound Effects Long Car Pass Bys Play Track 10-40 sounds included, 65 mins total $22

This small library contains ten exquisite recordings in multiple variances of cars driving through a quiet and expansive landscape along a very long road. You can hear the car approaching from a very far distance, passing by close, and slowly fading away into the distance for a very long time as well. In other words; we capture the car’s journey from afar, stretching on until it disappears over the horizon.

All recordings are clear and entirely devoid of external noise and human disruptions.

All these recordings are recorded using two microphone setups: a Double MS Stereo setup and a spaced omnis setup, the latter also providing extended frequency response. This results in four variations for each recording: Stereo, Wide Stereo, Wide AB Stereo, and 5-channel 5.0 surround. The variances between these options range from subtle to more pronounced, offering flexibility for crosscutting within scenes.

Get more than one hour of unique, royalty-free and notably high quality recordings with this library. Recorded in 24 bit / 96 kHz. Accurately edited and mastered to sound as natural as possible. With an average duration ranging from 40 seconds to 3 1/2 minutes per file. For more detailed descriptions of the recordings within this collection, please refer to the metadata provided in our file lists or listen to the preview montage.

This library is UCS compliant (universalcategorysystem.com). In this new category system, all files contain extensive metadata like file description, Category & Subcategory. Metadata can be read and processed by the most common audio libraries management tools.

'Broken Car Engine' by Western Tiger Sound Co. offers a unique collection of sounds from a dying 2006 Volvo V50 T5. It has over 27 minutes of knocking, clicking, and rattling noises as the engine strains, and even includes overheating and smoking sounds!

  • Car Sound Effects Broken Car Engine Play Track 5 sounds included, 28 mins total $27

My car engine broke! As a result of making a huge costly mistake caused by accidentally skipping an oil change service from getting dates and miles mixed up (on top of being a higher milage car), my 2006 Volvo V50 T5’s engine starting making incredibly loud knocking, clicking and rattling sounds. Took it for one last drive before it was picked up by a junk yard, and recorded the process. I put a DPA 4061 and a Rode NT5 in the engine and drove it around the neighborhood, first on residential streets, then drove it harder on some faster streets (the engine was so loud you can’t hear any other cars in the recordings), abusing the manual mode for higher rpm recordings the whole time until it started overheating, smoking and dumping liquid (coolant I think? Oil? Both?). I Quickly took the DPA out because it was right near a section of the engine that was overheating, but I left the NT5 in. Satisfied with what I recorded but still a couple miles from home, after my car cooled a bit I continued to record my drive home, this time with the DPA inside the car to get an interior perspective (this drive is labeled “bonus drive” in the library).

This library is just 5 files, totaling 27 minutes and 28 seconds, 24/96k, 956MB. Quality Soundminer metadata and UCS compliant. Recorded with a DPA 4061 and NT5 for starts, idles, off, revving, slow to moderate driving, harder faster driving, with lots of variation. One file is just the NT5 engine recording for an additional 5 and a half minute drive, and one is just the DPA for an interior perspective of that drive.

I’ll miss that car a lot, but at least I got some great recordings out of it! I hope you find them useful.

  • Animal Sound Effects Forests and Mountains Play Track 96+ sounds included, 220 mins total $110

Forest and Mountains features nature and wildlife sounds from California, Washington, and Oregon.  Included are a number of bird recordings and forest ambiences, along with some insects, winds, rivers, and rain.

These were recorded over the past three years in various forests, foothills, and mountain environments.   A lot of these took place in or near Southern California’s Angeles Forest and San Gabriel Mountains, an area that spans 1200 Square Miles and varies vastly in terrain.

Also included are some sounds from Northern California, along with recordings from the Pacific Northwest.

The recording techniques for this varied as sometimes I went with the recorders running unattended to capture night, dawn and early morning.  Other times I’d record while being close by.

Working as a Sound Effects Editor I’ve curated this collection with Editors in mind.  Background Ambiences and Spotted FX can really bring a location to life and give it so much story and character and that was a lot of the inspiration behind putting this all together.

    Forests and Mountains

    Metadata
Detailed with descriptions and markers and photos to easily navigate and allow for options when searching.  UCS was used to categorize and various bird species are identified.  I’ve also labeled the metadata with what I consider Lower Elevation (up to 1500 feet), Middle Elevation (2000-5000 feet), and Higher Elevation (above 5000 feet).   Included are the season of the year which was mostly Spring and Summer.  Using Open-Tier in Soundminer you can use these to help get a bit more specific to particular environments.

  • Hello Creators!

Here’s my new pack: “General UI Sounds“

General UI Sounds · The Sound Guild

I wanted to create a sound pack to cover different situations in an user interface.
I hope you enjoy implementing this sounds in your project!

    Making-Off

All this sounds were originally recorded with a Zoom H6 (cardiod microphone), and were processed in Logic Pro X, mainly editing the recorded material but also I used the Logix Pro X sampler.

    Some considerations

    1. Keep in mind this sounds can be used in a variety of situations, I put a name to the SFX but this doesn’t mean it can’t be used in other contexts.

    2. The sounds are in 44.1Khz/16 bit format. I have the original files at 96khz/24bit also, if you need this format, please contact me.
