Riding my bike to the studio this morning, I could definitely feel that it’s getting colder here in Denmark. And with many of you beavering away on winter projects already, that inspired me to do this roundup of great, winter-themed SFX libraries here on A Sound Effect. From icy impacts, snowy footsteps, howling winds to frozen stairs (!) and a barrage of snowball impacts, there’s lots of material to give your projects that winter sound:
The Frostbite SFX library was recorded during a season of severe snowstorms in the US. It features more than 800 sounds of icy impacts, crunchy snow, snow friction, footsteps, freezing winds and more.
Wild Montana Winter was recorded in a wildlife refuge in Montana, and captures some clean ambiences from the wintry landscape. It comes with long recordings of mountain winds, bubbly winter creeks and ice-filled lakes.
An interesting collection of howling winds and sleet banging on windows – captured from an indoor perspective. Really useful for underlining that cold, chilly atmosphere.
An inexpensive collection of snow sound effects, such as snow crunches, wet, sliding snow, and snow boulder drops – captured in the Canadian winter.
Need crunchy sounds of ice impacts, debris, crushing and wintry footsteps? Those are some of the sounds featured in the Icy Snow HD library from Soundopolis, recorded in Michigan.
Here’s an original take on winter sound effects: Snowball Impacts gets you the sound of snowballs hitting a wide range of surfaces. These include boilersuits, metal doors, racks, wheelbarrows, snowpushers and much more. A great collection of impact sounds with that icy, snowy sound to them.
A library created during long walks in wintry, desolate areas of Sweden. Comes with crusty, deep snowy footsteps from a variety of footwear.
Another collection of footsteps – this one featuring the sounds of footsteps, scuffs, stomps and scrapes in deep snow, as well as in packed snow. It also comes with the sounds of frozen stairs + a number of other surfaces.
