New sound effects: Whooshes, beeps, portals, dust, drones, stones, cars, skytrains – and eerie choirs

'Warped Choir' is a library that not only gives you a collection of vocal sounds, you also get ultra-modern, emotive design from the clever artists at Unidentified Sound Object. Containing 270 sounds, you will find thick crescendos, ghostly soundscapes, hair-raising stingers, and deep swells crafted for Stereo and 5.1 imaging. It also includes raw samples so you can create your own versions to send shivers up your audience's spines—but if you need to get their attention right away, this library should do the trick!

With a cover color scheme reminiscent of what should be one of your favorite games, 'Portals' by SoundMorph gives you the sounds of entering and exiting a variety of gateways. This library features more than the standard locking and unlocking sounds - you will hear teleportation devices and sci-fi lockdown calculations, as well as heavy medieval, metal, and stone doors. It also includes a special bonus of over 190 of the best door sounds from 'Solar Sky'. Whether you have massive temples or ship corridors, this library's 425 sounds should keep you happy.

'Eclectic Whooshes' by Airborne Sound is a collection 375 whooshes with a subtle touch to give your objects in motion the uncanny recognizability they need. In this library you will hear buzzing pass-bys, airy blasts, fiery bursts, plasmic stutters, power downs, lightning strikes, tonal warbles, and much more. Being from Airborne Sound, these recordings are no doubt high-quality, so you can bend them to fit a large machine or even a quick logo. If you need that special 'swoosh', check out this library.

Airborne Sound has a new library that will ping straight into your brain. 'Beeps and Buzzers' has 500 sounds for objects ranging from communication devices and notifications to computer user interfaces. There are metallic buzzes, glassy chattering beeps, cyber and melodic accents, and chimes that are clean as the Captain's quarters. As the standard-makers of metadata, you know they've documented these to be easy to find, too! If you need beeps and buzzes that will instantly communicate to your audience, this is one you should hear.

In their foray into VST/AAX/AU plugins, SoundMorph has developed a real-time particle simulator, which is just as cool as it sounds. 'Dust' has eight particle emitters to help you get the exact movement you need for convincing your audience. It also has convolution reverb, custom equations, binaural audio panning, and the ability to save presets or use those developed by Richard, Ivo, Robert and Yan themselves! To add an element of human touch and play to your sound design, this is one not to be missed.

'Light and Dark Drones' by Airborne Sound has the atmospheric feelings you're looking for. With various textures that are shimmering, airy, chattering, ghostly, brooding, mystical, thick, and angelic, you will be able to achieve the right psychoacoustical effect on your listeners. These 115 sounds also include 15 fields of detailed metadata, so the abstract won't be so detachedly conceptual to find. For beautiful designed textures that last from 20 seconds to over 3.5 minutes, give the demo a listen.

'Rocks and Stones' by Antisample has over 720 sounds of rocky impacts and rolling stones to keep you happy for a while. This collection has gravelly hits, slides, and rolls from locations varying from caverns to castles. You will hear rocks crushing forest foliage, wood and dirt, plus garbage, brick and metal debris, and water impacts and pebble rolls. You even receive the library 'Whooshers' for free. If you need to 'rock and roll' in your sound design, you will surely find something here.
