SFX creators are working their magic with tons of new libraries that came to A Sound Effect this week. In this recap, you’ll find sounds of monstrous trolls, vehicle passbys, buzzing mopeds, aggressive 3D printers, school ambiences, EMF transmissions, intense timelapses, and ambiences from across the coasts of Florida and the heart of Denmark. If you’ve been on the look for something fresh for your sound design, you’re sure to find something here!
In the calm before the storm, a new teacher arrives early, with lesson plans ready to go, waiting for the school busses to role in. He slows his breath, meditating on the cool humming of the AC, buzzing fluorescent lights and ticking clock that keeps him company. 'Empty School Roomtones' by Borg Sound captures these ambiences and more with 21 ambient sounds captured during the holiday break. There is the faint rumble of traffic on the other side of a dining hall's glass doors, buzzing elevators, humming heaters, trickling water pipes, and other sounds that, with no voices of children or teens, signals the building is at peace.
echo | collective never ceases in their creativity and quality, and 'The Rush' is a perfect mix of the two. This library takes a whole new approach to a whooshing library with swirling timelapses of 30 differently textured sources. You will hear not only the detailed sounds of hurried traffic, trains, helicopters, and crowds, you will also hear sounds of dashing waterfalls, fires, gore, rain, rollercoasters, wind, and much more. Each of the 319 tracks hold both visual context and artistic interpretation, making these sounds perfect for transitions, sound design, and wherever your mind goes with them.
3D printers are not only transforming small businesses, they can also revolutionize how you create music and sound design. With its inherently musical hums and buzzes, '3D Printer (NSL)' by New Sound Lab can take your signature sound to a new level, whether it be for a breathtaking film trailer, aggressive industrial rock, or a malicious AI. With intense hums, tonal glitches, noisy patterns, chaotic beeps, and much more, this library will blow your ears away when you hear it - and luckily it can print you some new ones.
'Pass-By: Trains, Trucks & Cars' by SoundBits is a superbly captured library featuring over 170 sounds of trains, trucks and cars as their sound waves surf the Doppler Effect back to the mics. This collection gives you passbys of sports cars, motorcycles, freight trains, and trucks of all shapes and sizes as they rush past your left and right ears with fury. The library also features various speeds of the vehicles, making them the perfect candidates for whoosh and transition design, too. If you need fast, close-up passbys, you will not find a more extensive collection than this.
There are plenty of roaring motorcycle SFX libraries out there, but what about the little guys of motorized bipedal transportation - mopeds? Soundreorganized fills this gap with their all-new library 'Keeway TX50 Moped'. This 50cc motorcycle with a dirt bike body owns every one of its 6 gears and has a distinct kick and buzz. In this library, you will receive onboard sounds of its electric start function, shutdown, revving motor, changing gears, exhaust, and engine fails. It also includes external passbys, as well as Foley of the handles and pedals. For the sounds of a bike that zips around like a bumblebee, check out this library.
Prototyping a high-fantasy RPG or a medieval warfare game? 'Troll Monster Vocalizations' by Gamemaster Audio will quickly get you on your way to designing your bad guys. With over 340 sounds of monstrous trolls, this collection has a plethora of grunts, groans, growls, and laughter to help you flesh out your animations. Whether your baddies die, struggle, tire, become hurt, taunt, or laugh in victory, you will find several takes of these emotions and much more. And for the price, you almost can't afford to not use this library to push your game along its dev cycle.
'Magnetic Fields Vol. 1' by Oscillating Particles features chaotic and intense sounds of household items like you've never heard them before. Featuring over 100 sounds of everyday devices like TVs, hard drives, computers, dehumidifiers, vacuum cleaners and more, this library uses a rare LOM Elektrosluch 3+ hand-built EMF sensor/microphone to capture glitches, buzzes and eerie textures from these machines. With lost transmissions and ghostly searches, these sounds give the sense of natural antenna-like reception that is neither contrived nor programmed. For something new to add to your library, give this one a listen.
Take a vacation in Southeast USA with 'Ambiences from Florida' by Robert Kubicki. This collection features ambiences from places tourists love along the Southern and Eastern sides of the sunny state that make up for the hurricanes and stifling, muggy heat. With ambiences from family-friendly Orlando, club-hopping Miami, and the relaxing beaches of West Palm Beach and the Florida Keys, you get a perfect mix of night life and lazy summer days. This library will make your audience long for tiny umbrellas in their cocktails.
Also by Robert Kubicki is 'Ambiences from Copenhagen', an assortment of ambiences from Denmark's capital. In this library you will hear ambiences from museums, parks, promenades, train stations and subways, airports, restaurants, the University's historic Botanical Garden, and crowd ambiences that display the interesting Danish accent. You will also hear sounds of underground metro rides. For smooth ambiences perfect for a film set in Northern European, check this library out.
