New Sound Effects This Week: Urban Winds, Rain, Ambiences, Dripping, Grinders, Farm Animals & More

There have been a LOT of SFX libraries added to the site in the past week. Here’s an overview of some of them + I’ve also included a highlight of 3 of most popular libraries from the past 7 days. Happy listening :)

Urban Winds

Environments & Ambiences Urban Winds Play Track 38 sounds included, 49 mins total $26

Urban Winds is 49 minutes / 1.33 GB of medium and high-wind sounds in 38 separate files – recorded in 24bit/96kHz M/S stereo (decoded to X/Y stereo and mono), using Sennheiser MKH micophones. All files are UCS-compliant.

You get empty streets and construction sites, office exteriors and the port of Aarhus. You get plastic that flutters or thrashes, metal fences that clatter and vibrate, pipes and cavities resonating in the gusts. You get ambiances and specifics. I have tried to strike the balance between variety and nuance, to give you sound pros something to build a scene around. In that sense, this really is a construction kit of sorts.

You will hear very little human activity – other than distant traffic. I recorded mostly at night, and in large, undisturbed areas – and on one occasion in the aftermath of a violent storm (the kind that rips the tiles off the roofs). Had a good time standing in the relative safety of my doorway, recording stuff getting blasted down the street! All sounds were captured in Aarhus, Denmark.

Distant City Ambiences

City Life Sound Effects Distant City Ambiences (3 channel) Play Track 88 sounds included, 150 mins total $50

Distant City Ambiences introduces the sounds of the ever-present noisefloor that is generated by the life in a modern city.

Several spots around the hills along Dresden/Germany have been visited in order to record these noisefloors from a distance.

All recordings are made with a 3-channel setup of Sennheiser MKH8020 / 8040 microphones that are able to capture the finest nuances which are often hidden by an aggressive compound of ever roaring engines, passing airplanes, trains and other acoustic emissions.

The library features 16 different locations that were visited several times between October and December 2015. Each place was recorded at different day and night times so that an entire 24h cycle of city ambiences is covered.

Recordist Stephan Marche recorded the sounds of Dresden, Germany from the hills around the city to capture that distant-city sound.

The Drip

Environments & Ambiences The Drip Play Track 57+ sounds included $45

The Drip delivers a comprehensive set of dripping sound effects that could be used in movies, video games etc. with both ambience sounds for backgrounds, and single sounds for spotting individual drops on various surfaces.

A variety of microphones were used to capture the different sounds in this collection: Telinga Microphones for a real zoom perspective, Mkh8040+30 for ambiences, a Mkh416 & Emesser mic for certain sfx sounds, and a set of Mkh 8020 for the real quiet sound effects sources.

The Drip features:
• Rapid and slow, loud and quiet water dripping sounds, easily loopable
• Water dripping sounds, from wet clothes and faucet, onto different materials (porcelain, plastic, metal, wood, paper, cups, bottles, bowls, stone)
• Rain on roofs, tents, porches, grass, car windshields and car roof (interior and exterior perspective)
• Exterior water/mud dripping sounds recorded with a Telinga Parabolic mic
• Interior big hall water dripping sounds recorded with a Telinga Parabolic mic
• Sewer water dripping sounds
• Radiator water dripping sounds
• House drain water dripping sounds

Rain In The City

Weather Sound Effects Rain In The City Play Track 41 sounds included, 66 mins total $39

RAIN IN THE CITY features 41 HD 24bit/96khz Sound Effects with a large assortment of rains, drippings, gutters, traffic, streams and other water movements. Recorded during Los Angeles's heavy El Nino Weather storms in 2015. All new and original recordings.

Antique Grinders

Materials & Texture Sound Effects Antique Grinders Play Track 570+ sounds included, 49 mins total $70

Get the sounds of 13 different coffee and herbal grinders. These small wooden and metal devices give grainy textures to any material + they sound really funny at times, and can be used as sweetener for funny toy sounds. Due to the recordings with a piezzo disc, they have a lot of deep and rumbling content. The other mics were the Neumann TLM 102, The DPA 4060 and the amazing Sennheiser MKH 8040. They all cover different and unique perspectives.

Andreas Uzenbenz gained access to a unique collection of antique grinders, and he managed to record no fewer than 13 of them – so, unsurprisingly, there’s lots of great grinding sounds in this collection.

Animal Farm

JAS 39 Gripen Jet Fighter

A collection of extremely rare jet fighter recordings from a JAS 39 Gripen jet fighter, containing Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) startup and shutdown, take offs with and without afterburner, hood opening and closing, fly bys and cockpit during flight. Various microphones and positions.
