Airwiggles Music Competition - Winners Reveal

Before we begin:

In case you missed it, or you just want to listen to the amazing winners again, we’re going to go through them all below. But before we get started, a big thanks to everyone who made this contest possible! Firstly to the amazingly talented artist KillerRabbitMedia who created our three animated prompts, as well as a big thanks to Kilohearts, Sonuscore, and Rogue Waves, who provided the prizes for the first place winners for each scene. Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who took part! We had well over 300 entries across the three categories and there was so much amazing musical talent on display. It was very difficult narrowing them down to a top 5, let alone a top 1, as everyone had truly brought their A game.

One last reminder for those that did create an entry: we’re putting together three compilation videos on our YouTube Channel showing off everyone’s music. If you would like your entry to be included in our compilations, you can submit them through our form here.

Without further ado, let’s listen to the winners!

Scene 1: Sea

Airwiggles Music Contest Winners: Sea (Daniel Dobbs)

Winner: Daniel Dobbs
Runners up: Soroosh Mohassesi, Sarah Emma, Elias McDermott-Sipe, Luka Nikolic
We thought this track was expertly produced and nailed the vibe – and it’s been stuck in our heads ever since we first heard it. We could definitely see this track in the OST of a Sonic Adventure game or similar! A huge congrats to Daniel!

Prizes for the winner in this category:

  • Awaken sound designer, your 8-Bit Legend is about to begin! 8-Bit Legend is a heroic SFX library of retro sounds made using the Gameboy’s sound chip. After countless battles, and leveling up we captured the nostalgic sounds of the 8-bit era.

In a quest to compile the ultimate 8-bit SFX library we traveled back in time to study the scrolls of sound from the legendary Sonic Sages.

Though filled with trials and tribulations we returned to the present with our spoils, a treasure trove of recorded sounds compiled into the epic tome: 8-Bit Legend!

  • VIBRANT • PROFOUND • ETERNAL

CHROMA personifies the ageless beauty of the piano. Painstakingly recorded from a world class Yamaha C3, it fully captures the sonic exuberance of the ideal piano sound. It is not only the perfect recreation of the acoustic properties, but it is also a full exploration of the instrument. From the rich depth of the single note, to mallets, pads, and e-bow, rich and inspiring soundscapes – CHROMA is more than a piano, it is the experience of the piano itself.

    ● CHROMA is the new SONUSCORE flagship piano
    ● CHROMA offers 4 freely adjustable microphone positions
    ● CHROMA has an unique core engine that both recreates the piano’s original sonority, but also creates new and abstract soundscapes
    ● CHROMA comes with an adjustable velocity curve to match the dynamics to every piano keyboard

Scene 2: Smoke

Airwiggles Music Contest Winner: Smoke (Ninian Valenta)

Winner: Ninian Valenta
Runners up: Ste Simpson, Ferenc Bàtri, Alastair McNamara, Elias McDermott-Sipe
We thought this track was a perfect blend of driving synths and orchestral elements. As with the rest of the winners, Ninian absolutely nailed the vibe and we could see this track fitting in perfectly in a post apocalyptic film score or Call of Duty game. This track had us hooked throughout with just the right amount of tension to keep us on edge all the way through. Congrats to Ninian!

Scene 3: Space

Airwiggles Music Contest Winner: Space (Scott VR)

Winner: Scott VR
Runners up: Trevor Higuera, Pierre Steytler, Paul Stakounis, Heli Linnus
Scott took our breath away (no pun intended) with this entry for Space! We thought it was an awesome mix of traditional orchestral elements and some creative sci-fi synths, theremins, and processing which came together to create a beautiful yet ever so slightly ominous journey through space. Scott’s victory also takes him up to an Airwiggles record of 4 member tags so an extra congratulations for that too!
