New Drone and Whoosh Sound Effects Asbjoern Andersen

This week, our new libraries straddle the line between music and sound design with some of our noisiest and most harmonious sounds yet. We have glitch libraries that give you a lo-fi edge, aggressive revolutions, cataclysmic worlds, and a vintage-tech feel. We also have unnatural pianos that soak up the reverb of their environments and haunt you with their lingering tails. Finally, we have libraries that are ready to be implemented to voice the transitions and futuristic doors in your projects.
Parallax

'Parallax' by Glitchmachines, LLC is a collection of mind-bending sounds for audio designers and electronic musicians alike. This collection of 1,300 sounds is inspired by old school video games and vintage tech, bending sound waves in stylistic, unique and functional ways. These circuit-bent sounds and noise kits add a level of intentional uncertainty—like when you believe you've taken your last step off an unlit staircase—and rush you back in with drops, chip beats, and modular synths. These sounds are too fun and nostalgic to pass up! If you want to grab your listener with 'radness' and hold their attention with complexity, this library is for you.

Cloud Piano

  • Drones & Mood Sound Effects Cloud Piano Play Track 20 sounds included, 20 mins total $10

This small, highly focused sound library features drones and textures created solely with sounds from a 1950’s Cable upright piano.

These sound effects range from low, dark, and pulsating, to high and shimmering and could easily work in sci-fi, suspense, thrillers, or fantasy. While they can sound otherworldly, the sounds are actually quite organic. The sounds were made with looped and layered tone clusters and ambience recorded inside the piano – no granularization, synthesis, or additional processing like reverb were employed.

They can be used alone or mixed with other sounds to great effect.

'Cloud Piano' by Cordovan Music, LLC is a small library that comes from a 1950s Cable upright piano. These sounds are not only 'cloud-like', they are also uneasy and haunting with their trailing reverbs, pulses, shimmers, living textures, and thrilling tones that will organically build the suspense and stress in your project. Each sound is a minute long and geared toward specific visual textures like mysterious fog, glowing exteriors, pulsating clouds, and glassy tension. Whether you're going for Silent Hill-like terror or a misty sci-fi landscape, these sounds are sure to produce drama and sweat beads on your audience.

Futuristic Doors

  • This library contains a collection of futuristic door movement and access sounds.

    2 versions are included:
    • Combined Version: versions of a sound are combined into one file (27 files total)
    • Split Version: versions of a sound appear as individual files (137 files total)

All sounds from this library are included in:
    Diversity

'Futuristic Doors' by The Sound Pack Tree is a pack that contains sounds that are often needed but hard to grasp when designing. This library has nearly a hundred files of various doors that will fit well in your future tech—whether it be a spaceship or high-tech facility. These doors not only open and close, they also slam, swish, slid, unlock and compute, and with their various shapes and sizes they will match the cutting edge designs of your establishment. Plus, there are sounds of elevators, hatches and starships docking. For its modest price, it's hard to ask for a more focused and easy-to-implement library!

The Keyless Piano Body

  • The Keyless Piano Body is a Kontakt Patch library that features an abandoned upright piano without keyboard.
The library encompasses the results of three extensive recording sessions and features the wonderful and reverberant sound of these piano remains.

For session 1 and 2 the body was brought to a studio and literally laid back so that various things like plastic balls, felt balls, glasses and much more could be thrown in to excite the strings. At the end of both sessions tons of samples were ready to edit. They now form 13 Kontakt instruments that encompass several precisely tuned pianos plus many prepared piano sets.
Session 3 was kind of a field recording gig as the piano remains were meanwhile moved to a rural garden area. The nightly recordings were done 6-channel so that several sample sets from 2 acoustic mics and 4 contact pick ups could be created. Again, the Kontakt instruments from this session feature the sounds of a rotten piano that is lovely and impressive at the same time. In a second pass the piano strings were treated with a stell jazz brush to bring up 3 multi-channel sets with prepared piano-like sounds.

Please see the Patch List here or below to learn more about the individual instruments. Also note that The Keyless Piano Body requires Kontakt 4 or higher.

As to be expected with Detunized's libraries, 'The Keyless Piano Body' captures not only the sound of the source material but also every early and late reflection engulfing it. Recorded both in a studio and in the nightly ambience of the outdoors, this Kontakt Patch library features almost 1,200 sounds from this unique, tortured instrument. Of course for Detunized, simply using one's hands to play the instrument would be too straightforward, so the creator used plastic and felt balls, glasses, steel jazz brushes, and even aching thumbnails to exploit the instrument. For an emotive, one-of-a-kind piano library that fits accessibly in genres of Celtic, horror and jazz, check out this library.

Fragment

'Fragment' by Glitchmachines, LLC is a glitch library created with hand-built instruments and has sonic elements that make it much more than unstructured noise. Though the collection has an incredible range of textures, the soundscape is tight and consistent, retaining the subtle characteristics of the original instruments in its lo-fi palette. But don't misinterpret 'lo-fi'—this library has the frequencies of circuit-bent technology for sounds of malfunction and aggressive distortion. For a library that will give you a futuristic, sci-fi edge with the unique musical characteristics, check out this library.

Spiral

'Spiral' by Glitchmachines, LLC is dedicated to the vicious cycle of aggressive rotations. This library features 400 designed sounds of bass, brush and spring tones, and motors and tools, but don't assume you know what they sound like just yet. These sounds have been stretched and manipulated to evoke style and emotion, effectively anthropomorphizing these inanimate objects. They may have no souls, but it's hard to debate the anger, frustration, and hatred in these sculpted tones and intricate articulations. For spinning rage that will 'screw up' your soundscape, look no further.

Vulcan

'Vulcan' by Glitchmachines, LLC is a library packed with hostility. With 300 designed sounds, this collection takes unassuming sound sources—like children, geese and instruments—and turns them into twisted, composite sounds like 'Rust Overture', 'Xerxes Luftwaffe', 'Inferno Omina', and 'Fear Driver'. There are also sounds of metallic collisions, massive contortions, and doomsday drones that will inject anxiety into your listeners' hearts through their ears. The only thing safe about this library is its confidence that it will add a bold, catastrophic element to your project.

Whooshes & Transitions

  • Whether you work in film, game or music production, it's a standard requirement to have a wide range of whoosh and transition sounds at your disposal. With raw, organic textures alongside heavily processed Doppler FX, the sounds in this library can be mixed together to create a multitude of variations which will give your projects a real edge. Featuring power ups and downs, spacecraft passbys, robotic movement, machine failure, future technology sounds and more, Whooshes & Transitions features 150 unique audio files ready to process to your liking or drop straight into your production.

When it comes to a pack dedicated to the Doppler effect, 'Whooshes & Transitions' is quick, guilt-free buy. With 150 sounds, this 96kHz pack can easily be tripled into the sounds of large passing ships, quick UI blips, and sounds of robots and machines. On the other hand, if you're looking for an easy drag-and-drop library, these sounds are ready to be used with their polished panned effects and variety of lengths from 1 to 14 seconds. For a wide range of whooshes and transitions that will barely scratch your budget, check out this library by Glitchedtones.

  • Mechanical Sound Effects Old Engines Grab Bag Play Track 486 sounds included, 265 mins total $129

“Old Engines Grab Bag” is a pack of numerous old, unique and characterful engines from early 1900s. It’s a massive collection of 56GB multitrack 192kHz recordings of old tractors and stationary engines, both diesel and gasoline fueled.

The intention wasn’t to cover vehicles driving, but to get isolated and very closely recorded mechanical elements of engines and exhaust pipes as a source material for sound design. There are many starts, idles, revs, offs, RPMs variations, backfires etc. Some are heavy and large sounding, some are small and funny. Tractors were captured EXT and most of stationary engines INT, but since they are very closely recorded there is just a little amount of reverb on most of them.

Most of engines are 1 or 2 cylinders and low horse power and their RPMs are also low. Thanks to this, many of those sounds aren’t tonal and can easily be used as additional layer with other design elements. They work great for adding vintage character, designing junky or funny vehicles, crazy huge steampunk machines or engines malfunction.

Sounds were recorded using multi-mic setup: Sanken CO-100k (most of the time pointing mechanical parts), Sennheiser MKH-8060 (mainly for isolated exhaust pipe), Schoeps CMC6XT mk41/mk8 (general image) and part also with Trance Audio Inducer contact mics (adding unique mechanical perspective).

The library is delivered as multitrack 192kHz files, as well as stereo mix of all microphones. Thanks to using microphones with extended frequency range, drastic pitch changes can be applied.
All files have extensive metadata created in Soundminer, including leg picker with microphone labels.

Demo files include pitched sounds, which are not delivered with library.
