This past week on A Sound Effect has seen the addition of 8 great new sound effects libraries that cover a broad range of audio needs: For those looking for industrial sounds, check out twirling gears and ratchets, air-powered machines, and power tools that thrive on gas. Or, if instead you are looking to explore time and space, take a trip back to the arcades to enjoy retro games, or travel to the future to check out space-ready engines, or just stay in the present and take a walk in NYC’s Lower East Side.
There are also excellent marine mammals and paper writing sounds ready for you – so lots of great sounds await! Here they are:
’Parched’ by Eiravaein Works is not only an extensive paper and writing SFX library, it is also a focussed one. With over 1300 individual tracks, this was a labor of love and careful selection. They used seven different writing utensils to scribble and mark on canvasses, notebooks, shoji, cels, parchment, cardboard, linen, cotton, and more. They also crumpled, crushed, rustled and tore these media for sound effects perfect for mobile games, UIs, or any project that may need a library in the realm of written technology, whether subtle or distinct.
Take a ride through the cosmos with 'Driving Forces' by Digital Rain Lab. This library contains almost 500 sounds of futuristic engines, from tiny hovering drones to huge motherships, through the marrying of real textures and carefully crafted synthetic sounds. Even if your viewers know sound does not travel in a vacuum, this library will keep your audience suspended in disbelief as your ships blast through space. That's the power of sound and image! And with 3.4 GB of content, you’re sure to find the hum of your craft in this collection.
'Marine Mammal Vocals - Dolphins, Orca, Sea Lions’ contains a school - or perhaps a herd? - of your favorite pinnipeds and underwater mammals. With cheerful whistling bottlenose dolphins, roaring sea lions, and blasting orcas, this library will not disappoint in its rareness and specialty. Rather than imitate most common collections, which feature faraway sea animals along the shoreline, this library contains up close and personal recordings, capturing many clean, single animal sounds that are ready to be added to your project. What else would you expect from the pros at Sounddogs?
'Chainsaws, Mistblowers & Pole Pruner’ features your favorite workhorse power tools. Containing the sounds of the most powerful chainsaws available from Husqvarna, Stihl, Kawashima and Kaxifa, as well as their mistblowers and pole pruners, this library has the sounds of ignition, operations, and engine bursts you need for your project. With nearly an hour of content, Phonophilist has likely covered all your gas-powered needs, whether your chainsaw wielding character is a simple lumberjack or a complicated serial killer.
Come visit Manhattan in 'Essential New York City: Street and Subway’ by Tsunami Sound Wave. This library covers ambiences from 110 St. and below with police and firetruck sirens, wet rush hour traffic, subway ambiences, distant thunderstorms, and heavy rains, as well as natural sounds from around the Intrepid Pier and Hudson River Heliport. For a flexible collection of the 'real' New York in all its paved glory, this library is one to consider.
The retro revolution is still dominating digital distribution store pages - there seems to be no end in sight - and Epic Stock Media has provided the quintessential game sounds in their new library 'Retro Game’. It contains the beeps and bops that every gamer recognizes, even from their file names. Coins, pick ups, power ups, victory wins, explosions, jumps, falls, chirps, alerts, errors… the list goes on in this ample library. To add 8-bit flair to your game or game-related video without infringing on copyrights, check this one out.
'Hydraulics & Pneumatics’ is the motherload of hydraulic and pneumatic sounds. With over five gigabytes and nearly 600 files, this library covers all the lathes, plastic molding machines, and tank turrets you need to give sound to your robots, gears, axles, and just about any other machine you can imagine. These aren't the synthesized machine sounds we're come to expect. Instead this library by Pole Position Production is a one-stop shop for the personality and charm you evoke from these air and gas-powered machines.
Gears, gears, gears! Small gears, big gears, metal gears, plastic gears - over 2000 sounds of gears in this library for nearly two hours of content! After collecting these mechanical sounds for over two years, George Vlad of Mindful Audio presents you 'Elements: Gears’ for all your clicking, clacking and turning needs. You can find ratchets, cogwheels, wagon wheels, toys, an old sewing machine and more to voice your drawbridges, spaceships, industrial machinery and any other mechanism you can think of for your film or game.
