Renault Clio II 1.2 โ Collection Notes
69 files ยท 1h 10m 43s ยท 96kHz / 24bit (+ 7 files at 48kHz)
Recorded primarily in a controlled outdoor environment using a Sound Devices 633. The main microphone rig follows the same architecture as the previous sessions : a KMr81 cardioid fixed at the rear, a KM140/KM120 mid-side pairdecoded to stereo on a boom pole for tracking, and an ORTF stereo pair at 15 metres for distant perspectives. Drivetrain recordings used a pair of AKG C417 lavaliers on exhaust and engine. Interior sessions were captured with the KM140/KM120 MS pair inside the cabin. Seven additional files were recorded separately with a Sony PCM-D50portable stereo recorder at 48kHz, capturing off-road sequences and specific mechanical sounds in field conditions.
The Clio II 1.2 is a French urban supermini with a small naturally-aspirated petrol engine. Light, unpretentious and ubiquitous, it produces a clean, neutral sound character โ minimal body resonance, a soft idle and a lively high-rev behaviour that reveals more personality than its displacement suggests. Its very commonness makes it an ideal workhorse source for contemporary urban scene-setting.
The collection covers :
- Pass-bys, departures and arrivals โ the same linked dual-capture approach as the previous collections : ORTF at 15 metres paired with a fixed KMr81 and boom-tracked MS stereo. Speeds from slow to fast, including a complex off-road start, maneuver and distant shutdown sequence.
- Engine on/off sequences โ start, idle and shutdown with acceleration bursts, captured with the MS pair (close engine perspective) and the AKG C417 lavalier pair.
- Drivetrain recordings โ AKG C417 lavalier pair covering town driving, open road at normal speed, sport driving and a start/drive/shutdown sequence. Interior MS counterparts for all driving sessions.
- Interior details โ electric window (front, with engine on and off variants), rear manual window handle (a characteristic detail of this base-spec model), interior door, handbrake, seatbelt and full get-out-of-vehicle sequence, windscreen washer and wiper cycle, turn indicator, hazard lights, interior room tone.
- Off-road sequences (PCM-D50, 48kHz) โ approach and shutdown on dirt and gravel at normal and slow speeds, a complex maneuver sequence on rough terrain, car being pushed close to the tires, engine revving hard in first gear, interior driving with gear grinding.
