Fauxliage is a character foliage library made without real plants. An hour of vegetation movement and interactions using a variety of props and fake plants, useful for traditional foliage as well as fantasy forests, sci-fi jungles, or plant-based magic.
Sound designer Nathan Moody recorded Fauxliage with a custom-made ribbon microphone and ultra-quiet, high-gain preamps on a professional Foley stage. The recordings retain extreme transient detail and some ultrasonic frequencies while tastefully taming higher frequencies to make the material easier to fit in a mix. As usual, special care is taken to provide lots of variations for game audio.
Custom-made props, fake plants, plastic turf, hula skirts, audio tape, leather gloves, and more are brushed, shaken, struck, squeezed, and trodden to provide useful Foley, sweeteners, textures, and general effects. The grasses, leaves, and stalks are perfect for the thick, waxy plants found in jungles or other planets, plant-based or druidic magical spells, or shambling vegetative monsters. Some of the fake turf is perfect for extremely wet grass or dirt, some simply read as exaggerated realism, and others suggest magical or animated foliage movement.
