Three designers. One final descent
Doom Drones 3 closes the trilogy with 303 files spanning designed drones, tape experiments, industrial textures and field recordings. Heavy mechanical beds sit alongside unstable tones, distant hums and quieter, suspended atmospheres.
Jason Cushing, Andrew Pals and Bryan Leach each brought their own ear and approach. The result moves from recognisable spaces into something harder to place: a sound beneath the scene, a presence just outside the frame.
It starts with listening
The recording journey took in a 1920s Gothic Revival building and an old Industrial Revolution-era factory. The included recordings also explore rooftop ambience, parking garages, a water tank, electrical rooms, ventilation systems and mechanical rumble.
These sounds bring their own irregularities and sense of spaceโuse them as environments, layers, or starting points for further design.
The source is only the beginning
Cassette manipulations, broken-tape textures, synth drones and machine-like tones form a large part of the collection. Some sounds stay close to a hum or a sustained note. Others shift, fray and build into something much less familiar.
Explore sounds including Cold Tape Warble, Grain Ghosts, Space Machine Room, Factory Floor and the Cassette Manipulations series.
