Product Description
Fourteen forest ambiences recorded across a single autumn afternoon at Mount Worth State Park, in the Strzelecki Ranges of West Gippsland, Victoria. Wet sclerophyll forest with warm temperate rainforest gullies โ a wetter, more enclosed forest than the dry bushland more commonly recorded in Australia.
The set moves between three positions: deep inside closed forest, along the boundary where native forest meets a pine plantation, and out in open grass clearings. Wind is a subject in its own right, arriving in the pines as a distant roar before it reaches the microphones, and several files are built around that approach and retreat.
A Superb Lyrebird appears on four of the fourteen files. On the longest recording it can be heard calling and displaying a few metres from the microphones, with a Peregrine Falcon overhead on the same file. Also present: laughing kookaburras, forest ravens, yellow-tailed black-cockatoos, currawongs, silvereyes, grey fantails, golden whistlers, crickets and katydids.
Two files are continuous insect-led beds, with birds only distant in the background โ useful where a dense insect texture is wanted without prominent birdsong.
Recorded with a spaced omnidirectional pair on a baffled array at 96 kHz / 24-bit. Editing is light and corrective only. Where a file contains a notable event โ a lyrebird, a raptor, a vehicle passing โ the timing is given in the fileโs own description, so events can be found without scrubbing.
Every file carries embedded UCS 8.2.1 metadata with common and scientific species names, habitat, season and location. Documentation and licence PDFs are included.
