This week at A Sound Effect, we have so many new libraries we’ve had to release a bi-weekly roundup! In this recap, you’ll hear sounds of the buttons and switches from a retired flight simulator, lots of buzzing mopeds, detailed boot and sneaker footsteps on concrete, tense bowed cymbal effects, rocky debris and rolling stones, zipping Formula 1 cars, explosive howitzers, an eclectic silenced gun library, and peaceful nature ambiences from the Black Forest. There is a little bit of everything this week, so enjoy your discoveries!
'Flight Simulator' by SonicSalute gets you inside a retired flight simulator at the Danish Technical Museum. How cool is that? This machine has switches, buttons, knobs, and handles galore to put training pilots to the test in their flying and troubleshooting skills. You'll get all sorts of sounds in this library including the device's throttle, radio, compass, rudder, fuel handle, and much more. For a wide variety of mechanical button and switch sounds, this library is a great value!
'Mopeds' by SonicSalute, and sound designers Rune Palving and Peter Albrechtsen, features 7 mopeds that range from new to run down. These 50cc scooters are captured as they pass by, circle, start up, stop, rev, and honk their horns. Plus, 4 of the mopeds were recorded with onboard mics on their exhaust and motor and with a mono or MS boom mic, giving you the option for easy perspective changes! For a more detailed listen of these multi-channel recordings, check out the demo video.
'Concrete Foot Work' by Badlands Sound is a focused library that gives you a wide variety of footsteps from the same palette. With over 270 sounds, you'll hear steps from boots, heels, dress shoes, leather shoes and more on surfaces of dry, wet and gritty concrete. And these footsteps were performed as walking, landing, scrapes, scuffs, stomps, and running, giving you all the sounds you need for your interactive character or film scene. If you need footsteps fast, check this library out.
'Bo Ho – Kontakt Edition' by WW Audio is a tense sound library of bowed cymbal sounds that have been distorted for maximum creepiness. It has 52 clean recordings and 8 manipulated sounds, plus 15 Kontakt instruments that map these recordings for a total of 900 combined effects, drones, and underscores! With the ability to perform these sounds, you'll become the painter of intensity for your soundscape, so if you need the dramatic atmosphere created by bowed cymbals, look no further.
'Just Stones' is a new library from the master of rocky impacts, SoundBits. This library features over 570 clean, natural, detailed sounds of rocks as they roll, shatter, slide, and splash into water in ways that don't sound too sterile or performed. You'll also hear impacts of bricks and gravel, as well as lots of trickling of pebbly debris. If you're looking for startling sounds of falling rocks for a scene of an intense rappelling accident, this library should have you covered!
'Battlefield Howitzers' is an explosive library by Airborne Sound. In this library you'll hear 140 sounds of Howitzers blasting their 25-pound cannons across the field from two perspectives. These sounds of heavy artillery include all the clean blasts you could need, as well as long reverb tails and the incredibly detailed metatadata we've come to expect from Airborne Sound. If booming ordnance is what you need, this is the one you want.
'Motorsports 1' by Airborne Sound has over 240 sounds from 9 popular races. Featuring recordings from the Formula 1, Ferrari Challenge, Pro Mazda, Canadian Touring Car Championship, IndyCar races and more, you'll hear these vehicles fly around the racetrack with their loud revving, buzzes, and pops. Each track lasts from a few seconds to over two minutes, giving you a great selection of sounds that are easy to find, yet flexible for your needs. For sounds of high-performance vehicles, this library will get your gears going.
'Silenced Gun Sounds' by Gamemaster Audio is an action-packed library featuring our favorite tactical attachment. This library has 102 silenced gun sounds, 132 flybys and shell drops, and 176 bonus sounds of bullet impacts, crossbows, explosions, foley, grenade launchers and more from Pro Sound Collection - meaning you can extend your library further if you'd like! If you need sounds to get your first person shooter off and running in the prototype stage, this is a great place to start.
'Sounds of Nature: FORESTS of Europe' by Fennec FX is a tranquil collection that takes you deep into the forests of Central Europe. Featuring bird choruses (and the popular cuckoo), quiet night ambiences with distant red foxes and tawny owls, and piney winds sprinkled with woodpeckers, you'll get over 5 hours of purely natural 3-5 min ambiences. You'll also receive three different perspectives from a stereo, wide stereo, and spaced omni set up. For sounds of nature that are perfect for eras preceding our modern technology, check this one out.
