Oooh yes… it’s that time of year again. Days are growing shorter here in Denmark, it’s getting cold – and Halloween is just around the corner. Being quite the horror fan, I’ve picked eight new and interesting SFX libraries that will set the right, creepy mood for your Halloween and horror projects.
If you’re after horror sound effects, these three libraries are definitely worth a listen too:
This library from Moon Echo Audio features 100 dark and disturbing ambiences (148 minutes total) – great for setting that sinister, maddening mood.
Unearthly Ambiences is WhatisValis’ first foray into independent sound effects, and what a debut. It features 27 haunting ambiences made from field and modular synth recordings.
A classic from sound designer Chuck Russom: When you need gore, this library provides 477 blood-dripping sounds to build from.

If you need blood-curdling screams, you get no less than 870+ sounds here. Great for creature sounds – or just for cries of terror that’ll shock your audience.
Recordist Stephan Marche found a unique source of haunting, ghostly sounds – recording sounds from bridges (!). Check out the demos to hear just how it turned out.
Bowed cymbals can provide some truly unsettling sounds – and in this release from Tonal Gurus, you get lots of strange, creepy cymbal sounds for your horror project.
If your project calls for subtle, disturbing backgrounds, Industrial Disquiet delivers more than 200 minutes of ambiences. It features 25 day-time tracks and 28 night-time tracks, giving you a great range of strange soundscapes from industrial sites.
Need unsettling drones? This library comes packed with 40 drones, each two minutes in length. So if your horror project seems a little too light and cozy, this pack will help fix that.
