The lack of crowd ambience and reactions in broadcast is something that affects both the viewing experience at home, as well as the players on the field. For the NHL 2020 playoffs, artificial crowd noise is being added – and ESPN has an interesting behind the scenes look at how that works here.
For soccer/football players on the field, the lack of atmosphere is an issue too – but Chris Hallam was kind enough to point me to this interesting read on what Autograph Sound in the UK is doing about it.
